I have to have a research question for my IB extended essay i chose to do it on psychology. I really want to do something about Bipolar disorder my initial research question was what is bipolar disorder but i would get marks deducted for the "study of the obvious" so if anyone could help me find an interesting bipolar related question id be very grateful. suggestions for other psychology essay questions are welcomed as well :) thank you in advance xxx

What is a test for bipolar disorder?

A psychological "test" (or "assessment") for bipolar disorder can be a complicated diagnostic process that would probably include answering many questions from a psychologist, psychiatrist, or general practitioner. My final diagnosis came after seeing my personal physician, then a psychiatrist. The questions have to do with the nature and length of depression and time between incidents; then the same with manic episodes: frequency, intensity, duration. There are at least five major designations for bipolar disorder: Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, Cyclothymia, Rapid-cycling, and Mixed Episodes. If you suspect your are suffering from bipolar episodes you should see your doctor.EDIT: 6/25/14

Question for pros: Bipolar disorder in astrology?

I agree with what the others are saying about hard aspects of Moon to Mercury. I've also viewed charts of persons having mental problems other than bipolar, and this involves other planets in hard aspect to Mercury.

What is interesting to me is that I have a bipolar relative through marriage who has the same exact placements that CorCaroli is describing, including the signs mentioned. It's as if she is describing the same person. Witnessing the life of a person having this placement, I've always thought the Mercury in Aries square Moon in Capricorn was so unfortunate. People who learn how to master this hard aspect must be incredibly strong persons.

That said, I agree with Markab about not putting too much into this type of diagnosis by astrology. I've known people who have many hard aspects to Mercury, but they've managed to use the energy in positive ways.

What are some good Essential questions about bipolar disorder?

Well, many famous people that were very talented had that disorder, Look at Vincent Van Gogh, Ludwig van Beethoven, Marylin Monroe, They committed suicide, but they were indeed suffering from such illness. Many people (when in manic stage) are at there best and when they hit the low, that is when they do such things like kill themselves, it the back and forth that gets to them, but when they are manic it is like a regular person on drugs, they feel good, excited, "alive" happy, etc....it's when they start getting in trouble, sleeping around, etc that it becomes a issue, like too much dopamine is a factor in bi polar, so may explain why Marylin Monroe was a wh*ore, she was always too sexually excited due to bi polar

Question about bipolar disorder/manic depression?

I need more clarity on what exactly manic depression is.

I had an ex best-friend, who told me before we even became close that once I got to know her, I wouldn't want to be around her anymore, or I would begin to hate her. She also constantly told me she "ruined so much." However at the same time she told me I made her happy and I was her only true friend at our school, and it would kill her if I asked her not to be my friend anymore.

She's contradicted herself all the time, and would get mad at me for doing certain things that she would do to me. In the end, she got mad because I got irritated at her for once. She eventually cut me off completely over a small argument, and didn't seem phased by it at all, despite telling me once that she would be there for me no matter what and I was one of the most important people in her life. It's been about three weeks since we've spoken.

I can't tell what goes on with her. So my question is, are people who have manic depression really like this? Is it normal for people with bipolar disorder cut off someone so close to them over something small? If its not, then why do you think she's cut me off for so long? And do bipolar people usually unintentionally contradict themselves? I just want to better understand the behavior of a bipolar person & know how to deal with a situation like this in the future so it doesn't happen again.

Why are there so many questions about bipolar disease on Quora?

Bipolar disorder is a rather common disorder, not disease, that affects about 10 million people in the United States, alone. Therefore, a lot of individuals likely have friends, families, and significant others suffering from this disorder, in which they have questions on how to deal with these people in a compassionate, and understanding way. Speaking from experience, most of my father’s side suffers from mood disorders, him included, most notably, bipolar disorder. If you don’t ask questions, especially on such a great site that provides you with answers from individuals who are also suffers, then you’ll never get the resources you need to address the issue(s) properly.
