Question About Brackets In Dental Braces

One of my brackets is open on my braces?

Is it that the wire isn't inside the bracket properly??? - because depending on the thickness of the new wire, it might actually be locked around the wire, but it just looks odd.

Nothing will happen though to the tooth. Remember the brackets are glued/cemented on to the tooth, and if you have any problem with the braces/brackets you should contact your orthodontist and let them know. I once had a bracket come off because I bit into something too hard. The orthodontist couldn't take me in until three days later, and then they fixed it as normal. No problems.

Don't stress out, when you break a bracket/brackets loose/bracket problems happen, it's important to get it fixed, but not because it's dangerous for your teeth - it's just that it wont work properly until you get it fixed!

One of my braces brackets came off my tooth?

hi, i got braces last week and my teeth are quite small so the bracket was glued in a weird position so it's 'sticking' out, well that bracket came off but it's still on the wire. im going to the dentist tomorrow. so my questions are:
will they be angry?
will they have to remove the whole thing and do it again?

Question about my tooth rising up from braces bracket?

hello! depending on your age, it could be that the tooth is still erupting, and it will stop at one point. Also, if you are older than, let's say 14, it is NOT uncommon that teeth Move, become loose or even if they erupt further, during your active orthodontic treatment! If you are concerned, visit your general dentist or orthodontist! Thanks, and good luck!

Question about braces! wrong tooth bracket position???

I'm a dentist.

It's good that you are so observant! It is very important for you to point-out anything you think is abnormal.

In your case, however, an offset bracket can be a normal thing, depending on the manner in which the doctor wants to move your tooth with the offset bracket.

How often do braces brackets need to fall off to for it to be considered too often?

In my practice as an orthodontist, I would consider losing one bracket every six weeks as excessive. Nickel free brackets have nothing to do with it. The material of which the brackets are composed have nothing to do with their adhesion. There are two reasons your brackets could come off. 1- Faulty technique on the part of the orthodontist, such as using a weak cement, or not conditioning the tooth surface properly, or allowing saliva to contaminate the tooth surface while bonding the bracket. 2-Assuming the brackets are bonded properly, something the patient is doing will exert excessive stress on the brackets and cause them to dislodge. This could be habits, such as nail biting, fingering or playing with the appliance, chewing gum or eating sticky candy, or being hit in the mouth while playing sports. In my practice, I usually did not ask the patients why the brackets came off. Either they didn't know, or they were tempted to give a wrong answer.

What happens if a broken bracket for dental braces goes unfixed?

I broke a bracket on one of my front teeth just a few days before my orthodontist appointment. They changed the wire, like they always do, but they didn't bother fixing the bracket. It looks kinda weird now, with me missing one of my brackets on my front teeth. This isn't the first time they've gone without fixing my brackets so I wondered if this is normal.

BRACES bracket flipped?

It happens when you are getting adjusted to new braces. Mine came off and I kept it in a tissue and they put it back on. They will reschedule you if they know that a bracket came loose. Until everything settles in, you will have loose brackets. Every-time I had a major twisting move for a tooth, I seemed to lose a bracket. It is no big deal.

What is the difference between braces and brackets?

brackets are the things they put on you teeth to hold the wire in place. braces include the brackets, but also include the wire and the bands that go on your brackets and in some cases, rubber bands.

Is it possible to get braces without the wires and only the brackets?

Yes you can put on braces without a wire inserted. We do it everyday! Right before we insert the wires. The wires deliver forces to the teeth in order to move them. Putting on braces without a wire results in no tooth movement and provides a nice place for food and plaque to accumulate. Also the wire can help tent the cheek away from between bracket spaces and reduces cheek abrasions. The result of wearing only braces and no wires makes teeth harder to clean and causes unusually irritated cheeks. As far as straightening them goes….you could wear only braces forever and have exactly the same crooked teeth you started with.Aron Dellinger DDS,MSD
