Question About Fin And Tail Rot In Goldfish.

Drooping tail fin in goldfish, also slight fin rot?

Fin rot is caused be a bacterial infection. While this can be treated with salt at proper levels an easier route is to treat with an over the counter antibiotic. Fin rot is easily treated and most antibiotics available at the pet store will take care of the problem in 5-7 days.

Why does my goldfish fin turns black after tail rot?

First may I state salt does nothing for fin rot but complicate it with goldfish as well as add to bloat and swim bladder. Cold water fish should NEVER have salt added to their water for any reason.

His tail is turning black due to this is a sign he is healing from ammonia, and not due to the salt. Once a fish is burned he will automatically turn black kind of like frost bite in humans where the ammonia burned them. it will eventually turn back to their normal color. Black isn't getting infected it is healing. Keep the water clean and the salt out and it will take less time. He isn't dieing.

Fish don't get depressed so no worries there. Your fish as long as you keep the water quality high will heal in no time.

EDIT: Please do not believe everything you read on the net. Most of what is there is bogus and from someone who just wants to have a web page with no thought what so ever.

Does maracyn TREAT fin rot in goldfish?

The difference is the active ingredients.

Maracyn:Erythromycin
Maracyn 2:Minocycline
Maracyn Plus: Sulfadimidine and Trimethoprim

Maracyn Plus is not advertised to treat fin and tail rot.

I have not heard of Maracyn advanced.

I have had good results with erythomycin.
I didn't think minocycline worked as well or as quickly.
I have never tried Maracyn Plus.

I don't medicate if I don't have to, but if I do, I use Mardel products.

Look at what caused the fin rot in the first place. Goldfish can be dirty, and a dirty environment will result in illness. Keep their temperature low, since they are cold water by nature. Keep salt in their tank at all times.

My goldfish lost part of his tail can it grow back?

how did he lose the tail? injury?

the tail can grow back provided no infection gets into the wound. keep the water immaculate and well filtered. store bought medication/antibiotics should help prevent infection.

Help Goldfish Problems! Fin and Tail Rot or Ammonia Poisoning?

We have had 3 goldfish for about a year and moved them into a new tank this summer because they outgrew their old tank. We got new rocks (I know, bad), but kept the decorations. They were ok at first but then we have had an ammonia problem for a very long time. We have well water at our house so there is no ammonia but no matter how many water changes we do there is always ammonia in the tank. We have used the fizzy tablets, ammonia remover, Ammo Lock, Goldfish protect, amquel, and the test strips still said high ammonia.

We took a sample of the water to a fish specialist, as our fish kept acting lethargic, and they said it isn't extremely high but there was some. We got test tube testers and are checking it regularly but it is still going up even though we use ammonia remover everyday and often vacuum the rocks and water. We also have a live plant and bubbler in the tank.

Today one fish died and the other two are extremely lethargic and have tattered tails which are white on the edges and some white stuff on their bodies. Their eyes are also cloudy. We used maracyn two packets for medicine and have been giving parasite medicine food but one is just lying down while the other is hovering over it. I am going to buy Melafix tomorrow and antibiotic food (and coppersafe if we can find it) but I have no idea what to do now!!!

It has been terrible for months I dont know how they are still alive, i think we have used every fish product available (Goldfish protect, PH + or -, parasite food, Maracyn, Maracyn Two, Ammo Lock, Ammonia Remover, Amquel, Ammonia neutralizing fizzy tablets, Bacteria supplements for changing water, and a lot more) If ANYONE has any tips please help, I'm really out of ideas!!!

Can rid-all copper aid heal fin rot in goldfish?

It might help, but fin rot is usually bacterial in origin (and your fish's sounds like it's bacterial) so an anti-bacterial medication, such as sulfa, various antibiotics, or Melafix, is likely to be much more effective. Copper is effective mainly against external parasites, such as ich or velvet.
