Question About Macbook Air

Question about a stolen MacBook?

So, I have this friend who acquired a MacBook Air by less than kosher means for a hundred bucks from a less than kosher person. It is, of course, stolen. It still has the family's pictures on it and everything. The email addresses are still configured to the Mac and it is always signed in. She is able to use the Internet in her apartment, but she doesn't have an ISP nor does her apartments offer free WiFi. I assumed Macs have a built in wireless card and she is just scamming off of someone who lives near her who has an unprotected connection. However, I have a buit in wireless card and I tried to connect my notebook in her apartment. It didn't work. Since I am a PC user, I'm not really sure how Macs work or how they connect to the Internet. I assume it is pretty much the same as PC. My concern is that the owner can somehow trace their MacBook and it will get her into trouble. Can someone please explain to me how Macs work. I'm also so torn, I feel compelled to report it, but there is no way to keep my friend from getting into trouble in the process. But someone's whole entire life is on that computer, even pictures of their baby and wedding. Advice please?

Macbook Pro Vs. Macbook Air?

I'm planning on getting a new computer for my 16th birthday. The quality of the computer I own plays a huge role in my everyday life. I'm taking 9 classes this school year, I'm always going to big and small social events on the weekends AND I already have a job teaching a dance class. I'm extremely sick and tired of my Crappy HP laptop with stupid a$$ windows vista. I swear to God, there's always something wrong with it. All I want to do is be able to type my papers and be able to facebook and do my damn research on the internet without out getting a motherf*cking virus. It's always overheating, shutting down, updating and crashing. I've lost all of my pictures and documents before and I don't want it to happen again. So I've made the decision to switch to Mac.
1st question.. Are Macbooks really worth the price?? And will a macbook last longer than 2 years without it sh!tting all over me?
Secondly, The new macbook air literally just came out today, and it's cheaper than the macbook pro (13 inch) . Considering my lifestyle, do you think I should purchase a macbook pro or a macbook air?

Much thanks for reading all of this :-) Feedback is much appreciated.

IPad vs. MacBook air?

Okay, so my parents promised me to buy me anything from the Apple store for the end of this school year. Now I have a big problem because I can't decide between iPad and MacBook Air!
I fell in love with the iPad in an Apple store, but my question is, can you have like Windows live messenger and Skype on there? And if you do, can you like talk normally? I type extremely fast and I think it might be a problem for me to type on the small touch keyboard on iPad.
On the other hand, I want to read books from my lap, so I won't have to keep looking straight to the screen.
But for MacBook Air, I want it just because I can like type on the keyboard and stuff. I do a lot of Power Point presentations for school and I also write many essays, so you think MacBook would be better right?
My dad also says, I won't be able to access many websites on iPad because of some flashes or whatever. And how can I watch movies on iPad? I don't have enough money to buy movies on iTunes store or anything like that so I download movies and music from torrent. How could I watch it on iPad then?

I know, a lot of questions, but I really don't know what to do (:

MacBook Air i5 vs i7?

I am considering purchasing a MacBook Air and had a few questions.
Is it worth the extra $140 to upgrade from the i5 to the i7 processor? Would I notice a big difference? I am likely going to be using this laptop just for general purposes, such as web browsing and using MS Office since I also have a desktop.

Also, is it worth the extra $80 to upgrade from 4gb RAM to 8gb RAM?
Has anyone had experience with the AppleCare 3-year protection plan? Is it worth it?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My MacBook won't boot, but I get a flashing folder with a question mark—what does this mean?

What you are describing is the way the Macintosh BIOS tells the user there is no OS installation detected on the connected drives. It means that either your OS is uninstalled or corrupted… or more likely, your hard drive has crashed. (It could also be disconnected, but that is unlikely if you haven’t been working on the internals of the computers)If you do not have professional expertise with Macintosh hardware issues, you should consult someone who does to help with this issue; I’ve done this before myself, and there are plenty of opportunities to mess things up worse than they already are. If your data is still available, it needs to be recovered using a working Mac that can access and copy the data. (If the issue with the drive is the OS installation, your data should be fine… if the drive has failed entirely, your data may be gone and unrecoverable)If the issue is your OS installation, macOS can be reinstalled by using the Recovery Partition or, if that is also corrupt, by tethering your Mac to a working one using Target Disk Mode. If the issue is the hard drive itself, it will need to be replaced by an Apple Authorized Service Professional.

How do I connect a camera in a MacBook Air?

Question: How do I connect a camera in a MacBook Air?I record meetings at our computer user group. Last Wednesday, I wanted to use a Webcam to get closeups of the next table, and possibly small items that wouldn’t show well from a distance. I plugged a Logitech C920 into one of the USB3 ports (could have used a USB hub to increase number of USB connections, allowing a mouse and/or keyboard, and something else). When you try this, pretty much any app that uses a camera will have a selection method to choose between the internal camera and any external cameras plugged in. Having experimented with audio recording recently, I chose QuickTime Player (I’m running MacOS 10.10.5 Yosemite on a 2014 vintage MacBook Air) and selected File: New Movie Recording (cmd-opt-N), which shows a Record button with a Source pulldown (no labels, just implied by their shapes). After selecting the Logitech, I could select between two different resolutions. Use of the Logitech Camera Settings app (free download from Logitech site) allows zooming and panning, as well as color balance, brightness, and contrast settings. You will probably want to run a couple of test clips to determine the actual resolution and quality of the recordings, balancing between adequate quality and not excessive file size. This time a recording of 1hr, 15 minutes at “high” quality consumed 5.96GB.I normally record using two older iPhones (4S and 5), then transfer the videos to Google Photos (free storage & sharing!). The experience is different, with the Logitech camera storing direct to the computer and allowing remote control from the computer; controlling the cameras requires direct access to the cameras. Focus, contrast, lighting etc vary among them and will affect any decisions.I had an older similar Webcam some time earlier, but the performance & features on this model were much superior. I think every Webcam has a disk for drivers and setup apps, but typically when I plug something like this into my MacBook or a ChromeBook, all I have to do is start up an appropriate app and select the camera.
