Question About My Mental Health

What is the obsession with questions about mental health all of a sudden?

Very interesting question.Science has finally accepted that “Mental illnesses/issues” if not treated properly can lead to serious physical illnesses. When energy healers, holistic healthcare practitioners used to claim that they can heal diseases, they were called crazy and somewhere the reason was similar.Anyways, so basically this is how it is. We all have realizations after sufferings and realizations are usually sudden ;)I have an instinct that Holistic healthcare industry will soon rule the world. Check out this website, www.healingclouds.comthese people have taken holistic healing to a different level.I am not sure if I answered your question, but trust me I really appreciate the question. My mind flooded with thoughts after reading your question.Blessings!!

I need to ask a more in depth question about my mental health. Can you recommend any forums/websites?

Okay, I think so far no one understood the question. I will try to translate it here so future answers are more productive. This person needs to ask a question about their mental health. They probably know there are psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and the like more than glad to assist. However, this person obviously has some reason not to go to that length just yet. They didn’t ask for advice. It was not a “what should I do” question, it was much more specific: recommend forums or websites. This person would like to try that first. They have their reasons. They might even be valid reasons. We don’t need to know them. Who are we to judge? Who are we? A person wants to find answers to questions about their mental health, and right away we make them feel stupid? This does not convince them to seek professional help. If people on a forum who consider themselves experts are this patronizing, imagine what the actual expert will be like? Thanks but no thanks. Do you guys see the issue? I hope you do, because apparently you are intelligent enough to advise a person who merely asked for some links to websites. That last sentence makes as much sense as the answers posted so far. Reading comprehension and empathy are your best friends on Quora. My answer to the question:A great place to start is Psychology and Mental Health Forum. Carefully browse the list of topics, there is one for almost every mental illness, and then some, as well as non illness related topics like topics for family members looking for support, non mental health topics about pastimes, topics on symptoms, etc. Search the forum to see if someone already posted the same question. If it is a frequently recurring question, you might not get as many answers if you post it because the question has been answered many times in older threads. When you do post, make sure you post in the right topic for maximum success. If you can’t find the information you are looking for or don’t get much answers, go to a more general and more active topic and ask people to refer you to topics that might have the answer or for links to other websites. Try not to post to a very specific topic at first as there may not be many people lurking there and it may take some time before anyone answers. All the best!

Question for any Mental Health Technicians.

I just finished in May. I took a six week course offered by the junior college and the local mental health service. This course was offered for the first time just as i was about to turn in my application for mental health technician associates degree program at another college...it offered the same thing, only crammed into six weeks and i was guaranteed a job when finished, so i thought it was a better choice. With our company, part-time is paid more than full time because full-time gets excellent benefits and more hours. Annual salary is eighteen thousand to twentyfour thousand.... thats with some sort of schooling. I definitely recommend getting an education course at least. There are tons of job opportunities. Its one of the top 50 jobs expected to continue to grow in the next ten years. I love my job...but it is stressful. You can work with substance abuse, mentally challenged, and mentally ill. You can work anywhere from a hospital to a group home to day treatment. If you get a state job, the benefits alone are woth the work, especially the retirement. In my opinion, unless you are turned off by the pay, its a wonderful job. But definetly go to school...it may seem like common sense stuff, but some parts are really helpful like crisis prevention, and most importantly, clinical rotations. It lets you see what its like before you invest a lot of time in it, because this job is definitely not for everyone. oh, and you will probably get some on the job training.....Sorry so long...i just want you to have all the info i can give....if u have some more questions you can email me at reporterchick87@yahoo.com

Question about mental health and gun ownership?

Hi everyone, i'm planning on purchasing my first firearm this weekend but i've been reading about those who are prohibited from buying them.

There is a statement on gun applications stating you can't purchase a gun if you've been committed to a mental institution.

I voluntarily checked myself into an inpatient psychiatric clinic for depression when i was 17. ( i am now 24, and very much better ) And i recall the people who checked me in said that I would still be able to get a firearm if i should choose to down the road, because it was all on a voluntary basis and not ordered by a court or family member. However, since i'm so new to firearms i'm not sure how it all works.

Does this prevent me from buying one from an FFL member?

Can you get in trouble for answering mental health question?

Generally, the issue is about the qualifications of the person answering. If the person answering has no qualifications, and offers up dangerous advice, the fact that it is about mental health is not the central issue.  Dangerous advice can be offered about chemicals, medicine, even animal care.  If the person offering the advice suggests that they are a professional in the field of their answer (like I do, regarding mental health) then yes, I would say there is the possibility of getting into trouble. But if the person answering is anonymous or a kid, or even an adult who claims no experience, then it is incumbant upon the person asking, to recognize the lack of professional experience behind the answer.People offer lies and errors all over the internet, in all sorts of forums, not just Quora.  But Quora does say to not diagnose over Quora--for all the obvious reasons. It would really be the same in person.  Imagine seeing some random person in the park, and asking them about the voices in your head, and the random person tells you to do what they say.  Is that random person doing a terrible thing?  Yes.  Is there a law against giving bad advice?  Only if the person claims to be a professional (and even then, only in certain professions.)  Can that stranger be successfully be sued for the dangerous advice? That's a whole other question.

Mental Health and Religion.(Yeah this is the baddest question)?

Comeon manjun like if someone said he was jesus you would ask him to bring his followers in sounds like somebody isn't being realistic here.

you would say this guy has issues and if he said he was gonna bring followers you would find some mass hysteria label or some thing else in a cult disorder, my ultimate question is can a new religion be made with out acknowledging mental health. and is this healthy for society given the real history that religion have come and gone, church of scientology is an effective example, do you think there is more going on today, that greedy doctors have put mental healthy care and insurance in jeopardy, and guys like jason were maybe some kind of whistleblowers?

How do the chinese view mental health?

I can tell you the majority of Chinese would not view it as possession. There are definately some superstitions. It would be difficult for me to explain so i'll give you some examples and you can work it out from there.

1. When I first moved to China in 2001, known homosexuals were confined to mental hospitals - they were released later that year.
2. Prescription drugs for many if not all mental illnesses are illegal.
3. There are very few psychologists / psychiatrists in China and most parents will not allow thier children to study it because A. They will make no money and B. It is a common belief that if you study psychology you yourself will go crazy.
4. Many of the mental illnesses in China if not most are due to poor environmental conditions (mercury, lead poisoning etc..) rather than childhood abuse but that obviously still remains a factor.

I would also say that in general, that mental illness in China is viewed mainly as a financial burden.

What came first, the person with the mental health problem or the arsehole partner who causes mental health problems?

The person with mental health problems came first. There’s a common thing to say that you have a mental illness or just problems cause the way you were raised but if you go deeper into it you’ll see that it’s often something you’re born with. Most of the times its cause the brain can’t function “normally”Many do believe that the human race survived of being psychopaths/sociopaths which to make a lot of sense. There’s not one part of me that doesn't believe that the first humans couldn't have schizophrenia, or depression or something else.
