Question About Starting Car

Car won't start... Jump starting????

My car worked yesterday then today when I turned on the car I got the radio to start up like usual when I start the car, then it just quit and dies. I think it could be the battery cause I noticed a light was left on somehow. If I was to jump start it, and it worked, is that all I need to do, or do I need to drive it around for 2 hours...or do I have to take it in to be recharged? I would like to be able to go to work today in my own car instead of catching rides to and from, so if jump starting works I'd like to know if I could just use it then.

Physics Question: When you jump start a car, why do you have to connect the chords in parallel, not series?

chords are in music.

You connect the two batteries in parallel with heavy cables. There is a certain order you should use to avoid problems.

You have two objects, two batteries, you can connect them only one way, and it's both parallel and series, depending on your viewpoint.

Carbon Monoxide question. So if I start my 2018 car from my phone, in my detached uninsulated garage for 10 min then open garage can I die?

So basically I will not be in the car or garage while the car is warming up. Will open the garage entry door and garage door when entering the garage. So I believe I should be good

Help. Car breathalyzer ignition interlock question, my car won't start?

The breathalyzer system should have been installed in such a way that it doesn't draw current from the battery when the key is off. Having said that, it's possible that they connected it to a wire that's always "hot", and that can certainly run the battery down overnight.
Another possibility is that there could be a faulty diode in the alternator. Your favorite walmart mechanic may not be the best resource for finding such a problem. I've actually come across that one a few times; one shop says an alternator is working just fine, but the battery is drained every morning.
You could do a little creative diagnosing of the electrical system and see if there is any significant current draw when the key is off. If there is, that's an indication of either
1. a faulty alternator
2. some other current drain, such as the breathalyzer.
Unfortunately, you can't legally tamper with the breathalyzer system, so if they are at fault, you can't have anyone but their agent repair it. If you can identify the existence of a current draw, you might be able to convince them that they should look at the installation again.
Good luck
And be careful when you're driving.

Can a bad fuel filter cause your car from starting?

Thanks, I knew it could, but I wasn't sure, I don't know if that made sense? But its got a brand new motor, and I replaced the engine control computer because it had a miss, so therefore spark and compression are there and up at 160psi, and the distributor has been replaced. All I could think of was my fuel filter, because the car sat for about a year before I finally dropped the new motor in.

Why wont my car start sometimes?

Carefully inspect the battery connections. I would clean them with a wire bush and a bit of water, and some baking soda if they are bad. Inspect the battery wires carefully.
Inspect the large grounds. Remove and clean the connector and the engine and body surface that the wire is attached to.
Then go to an auto parts store and get a free alternator and battery test.
Because this is intermittent, it will be hard to find.
You can guess, and most shops will just guess also, but that is really a waste of time and money.
Check the connections on the starter. Remove and clean them. Then see what happens.
Get near back of vehicle and have assistant turn key to the accessory position. You should hear the fuel pump turn on.
If you can hear that from the drivers seat, listen for it each start. Turn off radio, and fans when you stop car.
Then next time you turn on, if you do not hear pump, and car does not start, that may be an indication of intermittent fuel pump issue. Which could be a bad fuel pump, but usually they will eventually fail, bad/broken wiring, or corroded/bad connection at fuel pump.
If past due, change the fuel filter, probably not the issue, but worth changing.
Are you able to tap the starter with the handle of a long screwdriver, or something. If so, then when vehicle does not start. Tap on starter, just rap it firmly, not trying to hammer it, if vehicle starts, then might be the starter. Try this over a few times, if it happens say five t 10 times, not start, hit starter, then starts next time, then most likely is the starter.
The starter solenoid may be built into the starter.
A few things to try. good luck.
