Question For Delete 25jul2013

If you could delete one and only one thing entirely from this world, what would that be and why?

TIME... If the concept of 'time' was completely out of this world the ability to perform every task in each one's life will be enhanced.. In fact everyone will be able to give their best in whatever they do.. In this era of.  . right from having breakfast to accomplishing our tasks we do everything in a hurry, not having much time to give our best in any of our tasks or even enjoy the food we eat. Its just the beginning.. On the longer run .. The never ending Chase for money seldom wins over the time we get to spend with our kith and kind. It's not just this.. In this lightning pace of life we never seem to have quality time for ourselves , for caring about 'me', 'my health', 'myself'! Now by the time we start earning we are already dwelling over a zillion diseases and we perish before we even realise whether our lives were worth living at all!! No TIME for parents No TIME to take care of ourselves or our loved ones.. What sort of a life is this I wonder... I so wish the concept of time/duration was never existing in my life. This is exactly what I meant.. Found it on Facebook.

How did Yelp get initial traction and overcome the critical mass problem?

Yelp recognized that they needed a core group of users to drive acceptance, gain visibility, and generate content. In addition, they needed very visible and charismatic community managers to drive participation and interest and keep the users interested. Microsoft calls their online superusers VIPs, Norton calls their online superusers Gurus, Yelp calls their online (and real life) superusers the Yelp Elite.I was an active member of the Bay Area Yelp Elite so we were rewarded pretty well in the beginning. Not monetarily, but through rank and recognition. Yelp does a good job of finding ways to reward people, again not through monetary means, but little perks. Let's take a look at the standard Yelp profile page, specially the user info area on the left rail. Pardon how long it is.There are myriad status perks here, from X years elite, # of friends, # of reviews, # of firsts (first to review), compliments, and UFCs (useful, funny, cool votes). These all are small badges of pride to varying degrees to some people. In addition, Yelp also has ROTD (review of the day) where a local user gets their profile on the front page of the local yelp home site.Yelp has successfully expanded this to real life with Yelp Events. At regular Yelp Events, Elites often got first-chance to RSVP and even got in an hour before everyone else. There are specific events just for Yelp Elite that offer free food and drinks and swag.In short they've done a great job of attracting and retaining active users. However I think this model no longer scales in large areas like the Bay Area where you now see a lot of turnover and competition.
