Question for Dentists/Dental experts?

I just got a cavity filled and that has caused a change in my dental habits, for the better. I've been brushing twice a day and rinsing with ACT restoring mouth wash. I've also stopped drinking Soda, which was probably a big reason why I had the cavity in the first place.

The toothpaste I've used has either been Crest Pro Health for Cavities or Plaque Control. Both of which say they help whiten teeth. They both contain Glycerin, and the 'Gum' version caused a white slime to come off in my mouth after brushing. I read that it was part of the tissue in my mouth, from my lips or cheeks possibly, and there are dozens of reviews that say it causes the same effect in others.

I've read that Glycerin isn't a good thing to have in toothpaste, because it actually prevents the teeth from healing, and may cause sensitivity. Now, I don't know if it's just from those 'all natural' people that refuse to use flouride or if there is actually any basis for it, but is there any reason why a toothpaste with Glycerin would inhibit the healing of teeth?

I just read a bunch of reviews for the 'Plaque Control' version I've been using too, and again people say it causes 'gum peeling' (not sure what that white slime actually is), what exactly is that? And is it caused by Glycerin or the 'whitening' effect in the toothpaste?

Lastly, is it possible to reverse the beginning of tooth decay, when you have white lines on your teeth near the gums? I've read that's they're decalcification spots, and I'm wondering if the toothpaste I use can reverse it or at least stop it from growing any more.

Tooth Ache Problem-Question for Dental Experts?

Hello friend, night aches are the most important symptom of an irreversible tooth illness. It's called "Pulpitis Prulenta" in Latin medicine language. The only treatment is ; root canal. According to your anamnesis and story, you have a big cavity and carious. It must have already affected the pulp of your tooth, this is the cause of the pain. As you know, root canal treatment's main protocol is; extirpation of the whole pulp. If your dentist did not extirpate the pulp, it's normal that you still have pain.

You must also have an abscess or a lesion around your tooth's root, because your dentist gave you an antibiotic(Cefuroxime). This is normal as well, because before the acute symptoms are reduced, the treatment mustn't be done. The antibiotic will reduce your lesion and your dentist will treat your illness after that. This is the procedure.

Olfen is a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which will decrease your tissue's extreme reaction(inflammation) in order to make the treatment achievable. Otherwise the anaesthesia will not work and you'll feel an extreme pain.

So relax, everything seems normal right now. After you finish using your drugs, go and see your dentist. When the root canal treatment begins, your aches will be reduced and gone.

Where can I find answers to all my questions related to dentistry & dental health & courses?

Due to a lot of clutter online, it is hard to find consolidated and specific information on dentistry on the internet. The same is the case with any healthcare specialty. You have to rely on standard books for your academic questions. Asking seniors and colleagues will always be risky as they might not have a legit source.Coming to information regarding courses, you will have to join local Facebook and Whatsapp groups of dental associations where this information is circulated or subscribe to a journal / newsletter. Dentists have clubs and organizations in every city where they share academic knowledge, specially the information that gets lost in the noise online.I hope this answer helps.

Dental experts- what's your opinion on sealants for adults?

Sealants are supposed to help get you through the "cavity prone years" of the teens. By the time I think adn adult might benefit from sealants, I do what is called a "preventive resin restoration." You drill into the groove, minimally at first, and see if there is decay there. If there is NOT, you just go ahead and place a bonded resin filling. If there IS decay, you drill and fill as usual. It would be a fairly small filling most of the time.

Since I started using a laser device called the Diagnodent a few years ago, I must say that I have found MANY cavities that I would have ignored or "watched" on adult patients. This supported my own observation that at least 9 times out of ten when I thought I was going to do a "fancy sealant" (preventive resin restoration), the tooth turned out to be decayed under the surface anyhow.

How do I find a dentist with apnea treatment experience?

The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) is an association of dentists who specialize in helping patients control obstructive sleep apnea and snoring with use of oral appliance therapy. They have been trained to handle the specific needs of patients who require the use of a device other than a CPAP. Price ranges for services vary. Generally these devices must be purchased out of pocket. Some health insurances will cover an oral appliance.  Dental insurance generally will not cover any of the costs related to oral appliance therapy as it is considered a medical device. To find an AADSM member near you, visit their link to search for a dentist near your specific zip code: Find A Dentist - AADSM  Using a 25 mile miles around Chicago, there are 89 dentists who are recognized by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Check out the dentists websites to investigate which will be able to assist you with your specific needs. Some questions to ask may be:How long has the dentist been treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea with Oral Appliance Therapy?About how many patients have effectively utilized the device and would recommend it? On average, about how many appliances does the dentist fee out a monthApproximately, out of 10 cases, how many of those do you find covered by insurance?Do you offer a free consultation? With this information, you should be able to determine the comfort of the staff in caring for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Ask the dentists questions, too. Good luck in your search!

Last year before teeth cleaning, i realised that my lower lips was thick enough to cover the gums around lower teeth but i realised that i'm able to see some gums after teeth cleaning, my sister said that teeth cleaning won't cost damages to my lips, it's just that im thiking or looking at the mirror too much - ), any dental expert please reply on this, thanks.

Dental Crown/Root Canal Question (In extreme, writhing pain.)?

To make a long story short, had pain in tooth, #30 I believe, bottom molar, needed root canal, went to endodontist (I seriously do not understand people getting root canals at their regular dentist. The mere thought makes me quiver.) had said root canal, went back to regular guy had post and crown shoved in my face. Cost me a pretty penny and that was that.

Yay all is well for err 6 months or so. Until a few days ago. Aaah. Aah. The tooth in question is barking. I'm thinking it's the teeth around it but it's that tooth. If you press it, it hurts. If I bite on something, it hurts.

Not terrible yet but it's getting there. I feel pressure and pain. It's a lot of fun.

Now, should I ever bother with the dentist or is this normal. If it is not normal, have any idea what could be the problem? (Yes I will call the dentist post haste dawn Monday morning, just curious how much this is going to run me.)

What gets me is the nerve is dead, dead, dead. How can it hurt?

How do you invest in cosmetic dentistry?

In addition to restoring tooth functionality, cosmetic dentists use a variety of techniques to enhance the esthetics of your smile. Even if your teeth are in good condition, may add the extra touch you need to highlight an already beautiful smile. Other patients find dramatically increased confidence as their broken or missing teeth are repaired by their cosmetic dentist.
