How many questions came directly from newspaper for UPSC prelims 2016?

There is a gradual trend in UPSC paper. Before 2015 - upsc used to ask much more of conventional concept and basic understanding of subject. Ncert used to play huge role. In 2015 they asked near about 7 to 8 question of current affair specially international affair and world locations. It was usual hint for current affair trend in 2016.Now 2016 had many question from news paper. 15 to 16 ( not exact figure though) , one more obeservation i will write that - whatever conventional part was asked that too was from current affair going in the news. Eg-rohingya -myanmar muslim minority, this crisis is burning issue. So make a sound foundation for current and basics around that current affair. They are interlinked.

What questions should one ask while reading a newspaper or magazine article?

I think the questions you would ask are going to depend on why you are reading the article in the first place. If for research, you'll want to know about the credibility of the authors.  Education, background, experience, and possible biases. You will also need to analyze the study or research methodology to determine the soundness of the structure of the system which produced the results. What type of magazine or journal does this article appear in?   Some publications are for popular consumption while others are for hard-core academics.Who is sponsoring this research or knowledge gathering.  Does the sponsoring organization have a reason to hope certain outcomes?Off the top of my head, that's what I'd ask ....

Which newspaper is the best for UPSC preparation?

Dear Vaibhav has answered very well.newspapers for Civils prep are:The HinduIndian ExpressLive mint. Now digging little under the surface of ur querry……Firstly the most imp thing is to understand the need of reading newspaper. This is becoz many a times people have wrong notion dat newspaper is for current affairs coverage. One should understand that newspapers are for:Covering most imp topics in news comprehensively with a diversity of views, both positive and negative. To learn the use of language for better articulation of views in mains. Now every newspaper has its own unique goodness and orientation Eg. The Hindu is known for its leftist approach which is useful for ur critical analysis kind of questions.Considering all aspects what u should do is:-Every morning open the Insightsonindia website, go to Mission2017 page. They provide 7–8questions based on daily editorial in some good newspapers like- livemint, the hindu. They also provide a link to the article from which the question is made. What u have to do is to open 2–3 such links which u find more rich contentwise and read them thoroughly. And dont forget to make synoptic notes of 2 such articles each day. With this approach u will have ur own notes on all imp issues by the time u write mains. The good thing is that u will have ur own unique points on each topic and hence ur answers in mains will fare much better than the crowd. Now coming to news coverage. For that u should use monthly magazines of current affairs of any 2 leading coachings. Ex: Visionias, vajiram etc.

Rhetorical Questions in Newspaper Columns, are they proper?

My newspaper editor edits out all my rhetorical questions from my weekly column. He says they are bad taste and show that the writer is too lazy to think of a better way to phrase something.

I'd like to argue that when used correctly, rhetorical questions are a great tool for getting your point across. In news stories I can see why rhetorical questions should not be used, but columns are a different game because they are mostly opinion.

Your thoughts?

Interview questions for school newspaper help?!?

So, i'm supposed to conduct an interview with the newly elected members of the student council. What should I ask them, basically? I really have no succinctly tangible idea. :|

What is a possible question related to using a newspaper for improving reading skills?

A newspaper is a great way to improve reading skills. The comics are easiest. Then syndicated fare like horoscopes or “Dear Abby.” Sports stories also can be easy to digest. Associated Press wire stories are written at a relatively easy level. Plus, a newspaper is only a $1 or so.

How many questions came directly from the newspaper (preferably The Hindu) in the UPSC 2018 Prelims?

Many Questions.. Dont Focus on how many i would say.I think you are asking this question to know whether The Hindu is a good source for preparing current affairs for UPSC Prelims. For this i would say dont focus solely on The Hindu or any other newspaper for that matter.Current affairs coverage in UPSC prelims is very wide and questions come from different sources such as different Govt websites, Reports, Newspapers, Magazines Etc.So rather than focusing solely on any newspaper, study readymade material prepared by websites such as Insights, Vision, Iasbaba etc. They cover most of the important sources.Current Affairs are extremely important and are the biggest factor to decide result of Prelims.I personally studied Insights+Vision Current affairs and cleared UPSC prelims 2018 successfully.

Question- A newspaper headline states that “The rate of growth of the national deficit is decreasing.” What do?

Question- A newspaper headline states that “The rate of growth of the national deficit is decreasing.” What does this mean? What does this imply about the graph of the deficit as a function of time? this is the actual question

Question That Contains Assumptions: Why is the newspaper 'The Hindu' so explicitly anti BJP?

The Hindu has had tradition of journalism. But, during the freedom struggle, The Hindu voice was moderate- swinging onto the two boats - Imperialist British and sometime freedom fighters. Later, during the course, closer to the 1990, NRam took over. He completely turned it into a “left wing “mouthpiece. As an owner of the newspaper besides Editor in Chief, he entered into the world of imagination as it mostly happened with left intello.. He started treating the newspaper as his fiefdom. Like the usual problem with left intellectuals, they are averse to any other side of argument , he vitiated his stanced against so called “Right wing”. That is the beginning to the downfall and credibility at large. You should not put personal your “ism”. To the point, where it supported the henious corruption and politicians like Lalu for being “secular” among others. Another example, The Hindu is seen supporting China- OBOR in the case. For, readers, it is a shock. Aware of the fact in 1962, during the Chinese' s aggression in India CPI, denied that China attacked India. It later got devided into CPI(M). Look, the venemous stance against your own country in the name of some so called Ism. The Hindu is seen sometime sympathetic towards these elements - just because editorial is asked to do so by owner. Never Questioned the uprooting of industry in West Bengal and the reign of left wing terror in WB? The facade of liberalism is one short cut that intellectuals hide under the garden of left wing. That is why left is wiped out dedpite the most fertile ground of their movement in India. So, the Hindu is struggling and deploys massive marketing effort to sustain their whims and fancy. For example, the top marketing executive salary is 10 times higher than the manager and he uses every capiltslist tool to bring revenue. This is to understand the fallacy behind the ideology. On the surface, edititoral takes all kind of appeasement while inside they are a bunch of crooks running. The Hindu is farce.
