Questions About The East German Revolution

German Revolution 1918?

During the war, Germany really crushed down on the workers. Britain and France gave their workers paid overtime. German workers often had to work 80 hr weeks on straight pay if they could get it. All rights were suspended. Hindenburg and Ludendorf ruled Germany as virtual dictators. Wages were low, food was expensive, and scarce. The German people were sick of war.

The German navy had not sallied out since 1916. A rumor got started that the German fleet would sail out one last time before Germany would ask for peace. For the sailors, this was a death sentence. They mutinied. The sailors then sent delegations through out Germany and workers. Then a rumor that a armistice had been arranged and everywhere went on strike.

For the typical family. Father was in the army, they moved in with Grandpa, who was working 12 hour days, for little more than minimum wage. Food prices and everything else had skyrocketed. Just war and no war. There were no elections, just General running the show.

In Britain, war workers were paid huge bonuses, food was imported from America. The Labor Party received all kinds of concessions. There were elections.

I need some information on The Peaceful Revolution?

The Peaceful Revolution (German: Friedliche Revolution) was a series of peaceful political protests against the authoritarian regime of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) of East Germany. The protests included an emigration movement. street demonstrations, but all were nonviolent.

The demonstrations began on Monday, September 4, 1989 at the St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig, led by a Protestant pastor of the church, Christian Führer. After the October 2 demonstration, Socialist Unity Party (SED) leader Eric Honecker issued a shoot to kill order to the National People's Army. The government prepared a huge police, militia, Stasi, and work-combat troop presence and there were rumors of a massacre.

East German Revolution of 1989?

I know that one motivation for the revolutionaries was that West Germany was more culturally, economically and technologically advanced than East Germany. Can you think of any others?
Also, I know the demands of the protest movements were the freedom of assembly, speech, passage to the West and free elections. Anything else?

Thanks!

If the USSR seized German assets as reparations, how did East Germany become one of the better off East bloc-nations?

Very interesting question.Germany on the whole was an extremely industrialized country before the war, after the war even though they were hit hard the technical know how & factories remained. When USSR started implementating it's central policies of industrialization, East Germany had an advantage of being well educated and exposed to technology early on. This made them one of the power house in economy when compared to the rest of the Soviet blocs. Still very low compared to the lucky West Germany, where in Americans poured in money, technology and opened up their market for consumption.

What would have happened if either (pre or post-Russian Revolution) the Russian armies had joined Germany and Austria during WWI?

What would have happened if either (pre or post-Russian Revolution) the Russian armies had joined Germany and Austria during WWI?Pre Russian Revolution:France and the UK's efforts to isolate Germany from Russia fail in the end. The night before hostilities break out in 1914 Kaiser Wilhelm and Tsar Nicholas do reach a agreement as they did in real life after their long telegram conversation (Russia agreed not to intervene until one person the next day convensed the Tsar to). The warmonger in the Tsar's court is at the very least laughed out as Nicholas looks to the long term. Germany still attacks France after they were declared war on and due to the east being a non issue and Austria-Hungary not needing to have Germany hold their hand yet Germany makes it into Paris but is halted with about half the city secured. Fighting becomes to bloody and the Germans after preparing trench lines a mile or so behind combat lines pulls back. Now Germany has a strong defense on the gates of Paris that won't be budging. Hunger still is an issue but Ukrainian grain helps lessen the effects. Germany has plenty of steel and oil from Russia coming. The few Russian units in the west perform worse than the German units but do the job. Sometime after 1915 the Entante after failing to take the advantage sue for peace. Due to the war being short and only involving European powers the peace terms aren't very harsh and France is in a better condition than Germany was after WW1.Post revolution:Both white and red units make a tempary truce for some magical reason to fight on the Western front. With Russian materiel Germany is able to kick it's industry into overdrive. The famine in Germany is lessoned by Ukrainian grain. With more material Germany is able to advance it's tank program further and continue the stalemate. In 1919 or 1920 after 5 or 6 years of war a more fair peace treaty is signed mostly concerning France being restricted, the Russian civil war being begrudgingly peacefully resolved as within the 2 years a diplomatic solution was made(probably reuniting them under a parlimentary system like the whites had after the Tsar abdicated. Germany gets all the territories in the east from a separate peace treaty. Russia and Serbia are made scapegoats, the combined Russian state is made to repirate the central powers.Note:I don't know where I was going with these.
