Ramadan Is It Ok For A Muslim To Celebrate Christmas

How do Muslims celebrate Christmas?

A few Muslims celebrate Christmas with trees and gifts, but not to worship the Prophet Jesus.  This happens especially when people have kids who are surrounded by Christians, and therefore demand extra toys.Remember that Christmas is not the day of the birth of the Prophet Jesus. It is a holiday made to coincide with earlier, pagan holidays. My former sister-in-law, a Muslim who is a Citizen of the UAE, put up a Christmas tree in her home, and on the door of their condominium home in Dubai.  Her husband was angered, but the tree remained because she thought it was cute, and she spent a few hundred dollars on it.In practice, a goodly percentage of Muslims will participate in the festivities, if asked, or if there is nothing else fun to do, and the festivities provide entertainment. However, many Sunni Muslims do not believe in celebrating any holidays except Ramadhan and the two Eids.  Shia (the 10% minority), however, do have holidays. This was my answer to another question.:But in the Gulf Arab countries (n, as in the U.S., there are usually huge Christmas trees in the malls, and, OF COURSE holiday sales.  No retailer would miss that opportunity!Christmas celebration starts after Halloween or Thanksgiving, except when it conflicts with Muslim holidays.  Then, it starts later. This was the most expensive Christmas tree in the world in 2010And there is usually a Santa in most malls.  Meet Santa at Ski DubaiMany people love to take pictures with Santa:Christians celebrate at church:And, of course, there are school celebrations, Christmas pageants, and Christmas plays. Most Christians will take time off for Christmas Day, and employers won't stop them.  Then, the Muslims and Hindus often decide not to show up for work, either, since they know that Christians won't be coming in. Legally, the employer can deduct this from the employee's pay, but larger employers generally wouldn't do it, and most others wouldn't, either.

Why do muslims and i know some who do,celebrate christmas.i dont stop eating at ramadan?

to the person who said i bet you dont celabrate hannakkuah or some thing ive never even heard of it.my point was why celebrate something you dont believe in ,smacks of hipocrisy.

Is it haram to celebrate Christmas?

1. Celebrating any day related to any person is forbidden in Islam. Celebrating a day in the name of any person is his worship. So, for being a Muslim we worship Allah only. We celebrate the days which are told by Allah.

2. Celebrating birthdays are forbidden in Islam.

3. It's a festival. We already have 2 festivals i.e. 2 Eids. We can't add third or fourth festival. It's forbidden.

4. Christians believe that on Christmas, Son of God was born astaghfirullah. So, we can't believe this.

5. Muslims can't eat the food on which the name of any person has been invoked instead of Allah.

Hope it helps.

Do Shia Muslims celebrate Christmas?

I think they do not celebrate among themselves but they do celebrate the birthday of Jesus with their Christian friends. These can be witnessed especially in some Arab countries.Sayed Ammar Al-Hakim (Shia Muslim) giving a speech at a church in Baghdad, Iraq on Christmas DayAnd Christians also commemorate the Shia holy day of Ashura, this can be witnessed again in some Arab countries.A christian priest in the Shrine of Imam Husayn, the 3rd Shia Imam in Karbala, Iraq on the day of Ashura.

Ramadan: Do muslim punjabis celebrate baisakhi?

No they are gradually doing away with that and with many other values and traditions. Non Arab muslims hate their own culture & tradition and prefer to adopt arab culture. Several Pakistani Muslim Punjabi clans are even busy finding their Arab root. lol. Pakistani Muslim Punjabis even hate their own language and educated ones want their kids to speak in urdu instead of Punjabi, as they are made to believe that its a language of Gawars there. Punjabi is even banned in Punjab assembly in Pakistan. Enforcing Urdu on 48% Punjabi by 8% Muhajir is a great success story of Muhajirs in Pakistan.

Edit: Pakistani columnist Nadeem F. Paracha had written a verry good article about it. He sadly writes that even his clan Parachas now claim about their Arab root.

Is it OK for Muslims to celebrate the occasion of Christmas, in terms of celebrating culture and diversity? If yes, then why do Christians not celebrate Eid? No offence intended to people of either faith.

Firstly, this should be made clear that religion and culture are different. Some things related to culture are not accepted by religion, while matters related to religion are sometimes frowned upon by the culture and society. Now towards the question, Islam does not allow Muslims to celebrate a “religious” occasion of other religious comnunities, be it Christians, Jews or Hindus. This fact can be presented and strengthened by the hadees/saying of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.)“Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Abu Dawood 3512)So following and celebrating the festivals of the Non-Muslims is trying to become one of them. So, It is not O.K. for Muslims to celebrate Christmas.Islam has its own culture and traditions, ehich every Muslim, regardless of his geographical location and inherited culture has to follow. Two of these are Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha. Both of them can be considered a reward and reminder for the Muslims, the first one being a reward for fasting the whole of Ramadan, while the latter one being a reward for performing Hajj and reminder of the great sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham) (A.S.). So these festivals are not just holidays, but also serve as reminders of mercy and love of Allah (SWT).Even though Islam teaches respect and love for each and every Prophet, and also Prophet Isa (Jesus) (A.S.), it did not command celebrating their birthdays. Also Islamic scholars do not consider 25th December to be the correct date regarding his birth. Another reason is that the rituals and prayers performed by the Christains are considered Shirk, as the belief of Trinity suggests. So even though Islam teaches peace and love and respect for Prophet Isa (A.S.), it does not command us to perform any specific rituals regarding his birthday. Also, Islam does not force Christians to celebrate the Eid with Muslims, or to not celebrate their festivals, including Christmas. This is the real meaning of “There is no compulsion in religion”, and “For you is your religion, and for me is mine”.Hope I helped :)!

Is celebrating Christmas haram?

Yes celebrating it is haram. I mean you can give gifts and recieve but i think that they should give the gifts on another day. Like the day before of after. My Christian family members want to give me gifts and tell them to give it to me on the Eid or another day but the Christan Holidays and they have no prob with that.

Is Christmas haram for muslims?

Absolutely not!!!!!!!!
I have celebrated Christmas since i was a child. My brother and his friend debated it and so they asked a Shiek and he said as long as you celebrate it as a holiday but do not believe in its meaning (that is, so long as you do not believe that Christmas represents Jesus' birthday) then it is permissible to celebrate it.

So no, it is not haram. I love Christmas. I love getting/giving presents. I just don't believe it's a representation of the Prophet Jesus' (PBUH) birthday :)

Some people also say it is haram to celebrate the New Year. These people are stuck thinking in the 7th century. There is nothing "haram" about celebrating these days. There is absolutely NOTHING that interferes with my faith with God by celebrating these days. For anyone who wants to claim it is wrong/haram, give me a rational reason

What would equal Christmas to a Muslim?

Nothing matches it exactly.  There is a celebration called the Maulid, but I don't observe it because it is considered an innovation in the religion as Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, never celebrated the day of his birth and did not ask his followers to.   His Companions did not, nor did anyone for several hundred years.  We don't know the exact date he was born and it is not important to his mission.Muslims have three holidays, more in the vein of "Holy Days".  We have the Eid al Fitr, which is the celebration we have after completing the monthlong fast of Ramadan.  After that is Eid al Adhah, which we celebrate to commemorate the Pilgrimage to Makkah and the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael, peace be upon them. The last Eid is our "weekly Eid" which even many Muslims do not give enough significance.  This is Friday, the day of Jumuah, the Muslim congregational prayer.  There are many blessings in this day so Muslims are supposed to respect it, dress their best,  men must pray in the mosque, and families should seek to make it the best day of the week.
