Ramadan Should There Be An Anonymous Option In Y A

Do muslims have exceptions for fasting on Ramadan?

[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.(Quran 2:184)The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.(Quran 2:185).Fasting is mandatory to all mature people (above age 15 generally) unless during some medical conditions or travelling. if you can’t fast with hardship there is an option to feed a poor person.

Are there any Muslims who don't fast on Ramadan?

Unfortunately there are many who don't fast. Also there are many misconceptions. Most non muslims think that Islam is so strict that a person has to fast no matter what. There are many conditions under which a muslim is allowed to not keep fast. Few of them include :- 1. If person has disease which can get severe because of fast.2. If person is too old to fast.3. If person is in travel and would find it difficult to fast.4. If a lady is pregnant or has a child which needs breast feeding.5. Also it is not mandatory for a small child. After a certain age only its mandatory. As you can see from above conditions most of the genuine hard conditions are taken off. So Islam does not mean to torture you. It takes care of unreasonable situations. Now, coming to the second part of your question. Muslims eat at least two meals. One early morning(Sehr) before sunrise and one straight after sunset(Iftaar). Sehr is in fact is encouraged and it is explicitly asked by Prophet that people should do Sehr and not avoid it. In most other religions concept of eating early morning is not there. Therefore, it becomes harder to fast.  As far as eating a lot is concerned, the human stomach has some capacity and certainly no one can stuff more then that. Actually, it is not that hard to fast. Once you have fasted for the first few days, the rest becomes easy. In fact even kids as young as in 9th standards keep full fast without any problem. Ramadaan does not mean a muslim should leave all work and just lie like an animal. And certainly it is no torture. The pleasure you get when you put the first morsel of food in your stomach at Iftaar and first sip of water is unparalleled. It will make you realise how important water is, and how important any food which you do not even think of eating normally is. You will start feeling for those who have no food to eat. Saying this is different, but ones you experience it you would understand better. Also it will make you more thankful to God, that he made you lucky enough to enjoy these things without any contribution of yours.

My husband is so mean during ramadan, what to do?

Thank you all for your answers! I've talked to him about it, both while he is fasting, and after he has broken his fast. He dosn't seem to think anything is wrong, "its the way I am" There are kids envolved which makes it harder, and I haven't worked since I married him. In addition both of my parents have passed away, so I can't very well stay with them. I feel like I'm being held back from anything I want to do, I don't want to stay, but he's told me I"ll never take the kids from him, and considering I"m not working, I don't think I could support them by myself right now. I wish I could choose everyone's answer at the best. I will not choose, I'll allow the YA community to choose what they think is best. Thank you all again, as there is no one else I can talk to about this!

What months was Ramadan on during the year of 1985?

Just google (Hijri to Gregorian Date Converter) and you'll get many results.

according to one utility: http://www.rabiah.com/convert/convert.php3
----------
first enter the desired date you want (i.e. 01/01/1985) and make sure "Gregorian to Hijri" is selected. Click the convert button and you will get the following result:
"The conversion result is: Tuesday 9 Raby` al-THaany 1405 A.H. *"
Raby' Al-Thaany is the (4th month in Hijri calender) where Ramadhan is on the (9th) so just add 5 more months to your original entry resulting in Ramadhan being on May. But note that there's a 1 day error, so it coulda been late April.

Hope that was helpful!

What is more appropriate as a Ramadan greeting? Ramadan Mubarak or Ramadan Kareem?

What is more appropriate as a Ramadan greeting? Ramadan Mubarak or Ramadan Kareem? Thanks for A2A,Ramadan Kareem is not a greeting as far as I believe. Its just a statement like, “Ramadan Kareem has arrived” which means the blessed month of Ramadan has arrived.Kareem means “generous” and so Ramadan Kareem means, “Generous Ramadan”, which is not a greeting actually. Its an additional thing we add with “Ramadan” to show its sacredness.“Ramadan Mubarak” is more appropriate because Mubarak means “blessed”“Mubarak” is something we add after a happy occasion such as “Eid Mubarak”.Also here in Pakistan when someone achieve some target we say “Mubarak” to him,“Gadi laina par Mubarak ho” which means “Mubarak for buying a car”“Betay kay test main pass honay par Mubarak ho” which means “Mubarak for your son passing the test.”I have seen people use both but this is what I think.

MUSLIMS: How do you legitimize this evil Quran verse?

Bismillahi Walhamdullillah Wasalaathu Wasalaamu Ala Rasoollillah,

Firstly I want to congrats you for your reverting to Islam!

secondly, this verse is for special occasion not to be generalized and it's tafsir is like this :

* تفسير Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

{ وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لاَ تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ كُلُّهُ لله فَإِنِ انْتَهَوْاْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ }

(And fight them) i.e. the disbelievers of Mecca (until persecution) disbelief, idolatry, idol worship and fighting against Muhammad (pbuh) in the Sacred Precinct (is no more, and religion) in the Sacred Precinct as well as worship (is all for Allah) such that none remains except the Religion of Islam. (But if they cease) disbelief, idolatry, idol worship and fighting the Prophet (pbuh) (then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do) of good and evil.

Why did Islam ban eating pork?

A reprint and update of an answer I gave earlier:First, what is irrelevant:The health concerns are irrelevant.  Pork is no less healthy than any other meat.  This  should be evident by the fact that pork eating cultures, as in East Asia, West Africa, the Pacific, and Latin America, do not have problems from "pork diseases".  In fact, the Han Chinese, who certainly consume pork, are the world's largest ethnic group.  They've flourished.  Sure you can get very sick from uncooked pork.  Uncooked chicken will kill you faster.  Copraphagia is irrelevant.  Pigs will eat feces with a high nutritional content when they must, to survive.  So will rabbits.  Rabbits are Halal, so the "Pigs eat Feces" answer is false.  There is a very obvious answer.  Water. Why would two religions, Islam and Judaism, hold pork in such low esteem?Consider their origins in nomadic desert culture.  Pigs, unlike goats, consume a lot of water.  Note the one thing the world's "pig eaters" have in common:  Wet climates.Second, pigs "wallow".   When they find a watering hole they don't just walk up and drink, they jump in and roll.To the desert cultures, water holes were virtually sacred places.  Consider how you might react if you belonged to a tribe of goat herders, let's say in 2000 BC, and you first encountered, on the fringe of your travels, a tribe of pig farmers.  There you are... you are thirsty, your animals are thirsty and you have been looking for a good water source, and you cross the hill, and there is a little river, with some strange people and their strange animals.  And you bring your goats to the water, and the pig farmer brings his pigs.  And then the pigs start to do what pigs naturally do.  Mud splashes everywhere.  The water - precious stuff of life - turns brown.     Would you return to your tribe and tell them of your encounter with the most disgusting, filthy, sickening creatures in the world?  Probably.A pig consumes more water than a human.   If you are living in a desert where water defines life, every pig you choose to sustain means 1.25 humans you are not sustaining.  Our ancestors were not stupid.  If a desert herdsman looked at pigs drinking, he would be appalled by their water consumption, compared to his goats.  Such gluttons!  Is it any surprise that "desert wisdom" would include:  "Pigs are filthy gluttons!  We don't eat them, and never will!"
