Rash From Antibiotics And Mono- How To Stop Itching

Is it safe to take antibiotics and Benadryl together?

As long as nothing bad's happened to you by using either, then it generally is safe. Benadryl is an antihistamine, and there's nothing major documented that shows antibiotics and antihistamines have any big effects on each other. Some things may interact with either one, but generally, if you take the correct dosage of your antibiotic as your doctor recommends, and you use Benadryl as it should be used, nothing too bad should happen to you. Some people like to be very clear with terms, and if you're one of those people, you can ask your doctor about this issue, but i'm pretty certain that he'll say the same; there may be some minor variations, but it should be the same.

Rash from antibiotics and mono- how to stop itching?

I took antibiotics for a swollen symptomless throat for a week. Now my Dr thinks I MIGHT have mono because my throat is worse than ever and now very painful and I have an itchy rash which is common when mono is misdiagnosed and given antibiotics.

It's very noticable on my face, arms and chest and it itches like crazy.

My last antibiotic taken was Thursday morning, it's now midday Friday where I live. The rash MIGHT be less red, but it seems to be spreading.

The Dr gave me antihistamines to take. I've taken two in the last twenty-four hours but they don't seem to be doing anything? Is it just too soon to tell? I know antibiotic adsorption takes about twenty-four hours, will the antihistamines work better now that it's been that long?

How long will this last?

Can I scratch?

What will help with the itch?

Can I put skin lotion on it?

How long does a rash from mono (not from medicine) last?

Try Calamine lotion or Aveeno products or even Benadryl topical spray for the pruritis. Approximately 3 weeks, give or take.

Why doesn't my mono rash itch?

I went to the doctors with a very bad sore throat and swollen lymph nodes on the back of neck about 6 days ago. My doctor , very stupidly , gave me antibiotics (augmentin, very strong) and said that would " clear up my strep throat(which i didnt have)". About 5 days after taking the augmentin i noticed a very grotesque rash that consisted of a large amount of small bumps on my chest. It spread rapidly and as we speak it stretches from my neck to my upper thighs. I did some self research and saw that this rash is cause by the reaction between the mono(which i had the whole time) and the antibiotics. I continued to read and found a post (http://ehealthforum.com/health/topic13021.html) and it seems like almost everyone has a severely itchy rash, however mine doesn't itch at all. Should I be worried that it will soon? Is it possible that my rash just wont itch for the duration of it? Anyone with answers pleas help me I'm a nervous wreck right now. Thank you very much.

Has anyone ever had an augmentin-induced mono rash return after going away?

If you are allergic to something in the Augmentin (probably the amoxicillan) you can continue to have a reaction for days after. The way antibiotics work is that you take them and they slowly accumulate in your blood, so that they can over-take the bacteria - then they slowly dissipate. It just takes time for your body to flush all of it out. You may find that the rash will come and go along with your dosing of steroids, now that the initial "big dose" (the shot) is wearing off.
Talk to your doc about taking some Benedryl to help with the symptoms. You can also take oatmeal baths to help with the itching.
And a bit of personal experience - I had a full-body hives reaction to amoxicillan and was given steroids and Benedryl. The itching, swelling and hives didn't stop for about 2 weeks after taking the last dose of the antibiotic. I could literally tell when it was time for me to take my next dose, as I would generate new hives and start the itching all over again.
If you are still experiencing symptoms a week later, consult your doc to make sure you have not developed an additional sensitivity.

Amoxicillin rash lasting more than 2 weeks?

my doctor put me on amoxicillin because of complications with a burn on my leg. I was really itchy a couple days later, but I didn't have the "amoxicillin rash" just skin colored bumps that would come up when I scratched and would go away after. The doctor increased my dose to 875 mg twice a day. A couple days later my arms and legs were COVERED in the "amoxicillin rash" and it was unbearably itchy, I would scratch so much I would be bleeding. In Florida I went to a medical clinic and was given Desoximetasone gel, which got rid of the redness and a lot of the itching after a week.

The problem is that after being given the larger dose on Nov. 16 and being taken off of it on the 23rd, it is now Dec. 13 and my arms still have bumps and are still REALLY itchy, my legs only stopped itching a couple days ago. I just want to know if anyone knows why I still have an itchy rash THREE WEEKS after being taken off of the medicine.

Another weird thing is that most people get it all over, my jawline, behind my ears and my scalp were mildy itchy but never had a rash. It was never on my torso just my extremities.

p.s. Sorry for the long description.

Mono rash relief/timeline?

I was diagnosed with mono and strep throat on January 9th. I ended up in the hospital overnight from the 12th into the 13th, and was released since the dangerous swelling in my tonsils has gone down a bit. The doctor prescribed Tylenol w/ codeine for pain relief, a steroid to reduce tonsil size and inflammation, and augmentin to do away with the strep.

They explained that what sometimes happens is that people develop a rash when prescribed certain antibiotics for strep, which usually indicates they have mono instead. However, I had/have both, and yesterday was my last dose of the augmentin. Yesterday evening after returning to college, I noticed small red splotches on my arms and and neck, as well as my torso. I woke up today and it has gotten slightly worse, with more red dots and my face and ears have swollen very slightly and gotten red, and it itches slightly now and then, but not severely yet.

I'm talking it over with my parents to decide if/when I would have to visit the university's health services, but until then is there some relief for this? I've heard things like Benadryl or hydrocortisone cream can help, but part of me is worried this won't go away without some formal medical attention.

Has anyone out there experienced this or have trained knowledge of my situation? Help is very much appreciated..

How long will I have mono rash?

I was recently diagnosed with mono after taking an antibiotic for several days. Today I woke up with a rash all over my body. The rash looks like red bumps all over my body. The bumps are VERY itchy. It is worse on my neck, chest, back, and face. It is sill on my arms, legs, and stomach though. I have been applying some aloe to try and ease the urge to itch. I am taking several antibiotics to help with the mono. I could really care less, I just want my skin to look better. How long will it take to clear it up? Is there anything I can do to help with the itching? And how can I reduce the redness?

Mono seems to be getting worse?

So I had mono since near the end of may. With fever and aches, all the lovely things. Went to the dr on june 3rd cuz I thoughtvit was a cold but it just got worse. So she prescribed amoxicillin, which I took until I felt better again and then once I stopped taking it I got a lovely itchy rash all over my body and my doctor said I'm allergic to the amoxicillin so she prescribed me predisone and the third day of taking that I woke up with a hard time breathing and had to go to the er, where they did a blood test and swab test. Mono positive and strep negative. Went to the er on the 14th and then went to the drs the next day where she prescribed a dif type of corticosteroid and found I was allergic to that. Now my lymph nodes have been swollen really bad since Monday ( but they were kind of swollen in may) my rash seems to go away and come back but just on my legs. I've been kind of tired but not enough for me to go to sleep all day. I just want to kno wat happens if I don't go to sleep a lot like ur supposed to and how long it takes for the lymph nodes swelling to go away. If u have anything that can make it stop hurting please tell me too. I haven't seen my bf since I started getting the rash on June 11th and idk if I gave him mono bcuz once I felt better we kissed a lot. But I've been getting worse bcuz of the lymph nodes are killing me....so if there's any way u can tell me wen the swelling will go down and the rash to go away and the other questions Ive asked that would be amazing!

How to relieve a mono rash?

I got it tonight. It came very suddenly and little red bumps are all over my back, stomach, chest, neck, even my face and ears are itchy. I am itchy all over and my muscles are aching pretty bad. I am taking Cephalexin for an infection but my doctor said she was giving that one to me because the other one would give you a rash with mono or something. I don't know if these are causing the rash or if it's just the mono. I thought I was almost back to normal until this happened. I also feel slightly feverish, and a couple hours ago I was starving but now I don't feel like eating at all. It hurts to even sit down because everything is so sore. I am mainly worried about the rash. Can I put anti-itch cream on myself? I couldn't find anything about what to do for it on google. thank you for your help.
