Rattling Noise When Driving

Rattling noise from car while driving on the highway?

I have an 04 civic 131,000mi,my car makes this rattling noise when i hit 60+mph it sounds like its coming in the engine bay but there are no lights that have come on except for the maintenance light which has been on before the noise started. iv'e looked under the hood and cant see anything on the surface wrong, nothing hanging loose no torn belts or anything, and all belts were replaced when i bought the car about 2 yrs ago. does anyone know what this could be? please help!

Rattling when driving but stops when I brake?

when did you last change or have them changed? rattling noise could be a loose or broken caliper, which only happens after you hear the "change me" squeal from the brakes. pull your tire off and do a look around at the brakes. make sure nothing is loose (rattling) and that you don't have any deep grooves on your rotors.
if you haven't heard the change me squeal, it could be that one of the pads may have broken, which has happened to me once, when i broke down and bought cheap pads. if nothing is loose or broken looking, take it in and have a mechanic take a look, many places do a cheap brake inspection (under thirty bucks)

Why does my engine make a tapping or rattling noise while in drive at stop sign then goes away when accelerating?

This phenomenon in physics is called Resonance. By definition, this means that the frequency of a vibrating source ( here the engine ) matches with the natural frequency of an external body ( the rest of the car ) and hence the dash and other equipment inside vibrate with maximum amplitude. In order to prevent this, throttle slightly as you move from rest and it is nothing to be worried about.Happy and safe driving y'all. :’)

Hear chain like rattling noise when driving and braking?

My 2005 Pontiac Grand Am makes a strange noise when I'm driving. It's more prominent when I'm lightly applying the brake. But I also hear it when I'm giving it gas too. The best way I can describe it is a chain rattling type sound. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side front tire area. What could this be? Thank you.

My 97 Geo Metro makes a rattling noise while driving..help?

I have a 1997 Geo Metro automatic. At around 35 MPH it makes a rattling noise or clicking I can almost feel the noise but it's not too strong. It goes away if I let off the gas. I try to drive under 35 to make this problem unnoticeable but it's scary not knowing what this is since I love my Metro. Anyone have any ideas what could be making this noise?

I 'm hearing a rattling noise coming from my bike's engine while accelerating hard. What could the problem be?

I don’t mean to deride you here, but are you sure it is from engine?Any noise coming from underneath your legs and seat not necessarily be from engine. It is hard to contemplate sitting on my arm chair what exactly can be the issue. But in most cases if bike is well maintained, it is the chain slapping on the bottom of chain guide. It is very common and it should occur, chain slack has to be around one and quarter of inch for one-five. Under acceleration the upper portion tightens up and lower is having lots of slack so it hits and rattle. The reason why it is not heard after 5k rpm is that power transmission smooths out after 5k into the revband and the noise of engine kind of muffles the chain slaps.

Rattling noise in 99 Chevy Cavalier?

Hello tdogg. The noise under the hood could be one of two things; the serpentine belt tensioner is separating (very common concern for the 2.2l), or the water pump shaft bushing is worn, causing contact between the impeller and the water pump housing and/or the engine block itself. If the water pump is culprit, a high whine will accompany quick revs of the engine (like a supercharger). The tensioner will rattle only while engine is idling, or lower rpm's (noise is pretty loud). If the tensioner separates completely, the belt will come off all pulleys. If you are driving the vehicle into the ground, your question is moot. If the belt comes off, the vehicle will be undriveable quickly. If the water pump is culprit, and the engine is not overheating, the vehicle will last until the pump grounds out, stops pumping coolant, and the engine siezes. Hope this helps and good luck. Oh, by the way, your engine does not have a timing chain; it has a belt. Peace.

Car makes rattling noise about 35 mph?

I have a 99 camry 4 cylinder, a manual with about 130k. Just recently while accelerating in third, when i hit about 35 mph, or about 2000 rpm or so it makes this weird rattling noise that sounds like it is coming from the front of the car (doesn't happen everytime just most of the time). If i shift into fourth early i avoid this noise.

Any idea what this is?
