Really Hard Time Sleeping

Why do I have such a hard time sleeping?

As my own life can testify to, insomnia and anxiety can play into each other like a feedback loop. Part of your problem could be sleep anxiety. Fixing your sleep schedule, and feeling more comfortable around sleep is a long process, but you can see significant improvement from the very first week. Here are a few tips for beating sleep anxiety:Get out of bed if you can’t sleep! One common mistake that feeds into sleep anxiety is staying in bed for hours, tossing and turning. This helps create a strong negative association between your bed and insomnia. If you can’t fall asleep after 15–20 minutes, get up and do something relaxing/boring like folding laundry or washing the dishes.Limit stimulation. Try to find something to do before bed that is relaxing and gets your mind off of your own anxieties. Stay away from computers and phone screens. Not only are phones incredibly stimulating, but their blue light blocks production of the sleep hormone melatonin. Get a low blue reading lamp or book light and read your favorite book. You might also try listening to a podcast (I really recommend the Myths and Legends podcast for this). Reading and listening to podcasts (in dim/low blue light) helps get yourself out of your own head and into the mystical world of Narnia, etc. Halfway to dreamland already :)Good luck! I’ve been there, and I promise it can better!Herb

Do INTJ’s have a hard time falling asleep?

I do. Especially in times of stress or when my mind is working on finding answers to the riddles of life.Brainstorming silly stuff? No problem there. I save the binge think-a-thon sessions for days when I have adequate time to follow through with the whole lengthy detail gathering, reflective perspective jumping, and planning process. My sleep issue is fully connected to when things are not going as planned. The solution is usually to find a way to empty my head by writing out my thoughts. (Sooo many journals of thoughts can be found in my nightstand). Talking it through with a trusted ally also helps. My dog is an excellent listener!I also go to sleep listening to music or melodies wearing comfy earbuds. Anything from binaural trance to something loud and introspective like a playlist by Tool. When I finally get to sleep, I am in a coma so deep that a meteor could crash land in my back yard and I would notice.

Been having a really hard time sleeping the past few nights. How can I get a good nights sleep tonight?

Your mission to get a good night’s sleep is a familiar experience to me. Ideally, your mission starts before dark.Get as much sunlight (or light equivalent to sunlight) as possible while it’s light. No caffeine after 3pm.Drink plenty of fluids during the day but stop early evening to try and avoid a full bladder keeping you awakeThe exception being: a cup of herbal tea a an hour or 2 before bed, chamomile is a great option. Google “herbal tea to help you sleep” for other options.Dim the lights at least a couple hours before bed. Around this time avoid anything that might cause you any kind of anxietyTo that end, you might want to try some sort of mindfulness meditation practice or gentle yoga, again there are routines specifically for before bedtime. Find something easy that works for youA nice hot bath or shower can helpIt might sound strange, but massaging your feet can also help. With some lotion or body oil.Lastly, I find reading a book on some really dry dispassionate subject matter will put me to sleep before I know it.

I am having a really hard time sleeping. Over the counter doesnt work...will minute clinic prescribe ambien?

I'm not sure if they will or not. Ambien is a narcotic and is addicting, so they probably can't. If you do get some I would only take it for a couple nights. My mom use to take them and yes she got addicted. I have taken them a couple times. It has done the job, but then I found that the next day was a little harder to get to sleep than before. I guess that's why people keep taking them. I am not a good sleeper. I have had problems getting to sleep my whole life. Over the counter pills don't work for me either. The only thing that I found that really has helped is taking benadryl. I know it's for allergies, but sometimes when you're desperate you don't care. My advise would be to not get ambien.

I'm having a very hard time sleeping. How can I fix my sleeping schedule?

What you need to do is get to a dentist and have that infection treated before it kills you.  I'm not kidding.  That's why you're not sleeping.  You have a raging infection in your body, and between the discomfort and the fever, your body is in complete fight mode, making antibodies and filtering toxins from your bloodstream as fast as it can.  You kidneys and spleen are working overtime tomkeep up, and may shut down from the overload.Call now and get in to see a dentist ASAP on an emergency basis.

Hard time sleeping after ovulation?

Interesting. Sometime I happen to have hard time sleeping without any reason.... Probably was related to that cause I remember that there were some days last month that I couldn't sleep, and seems to be after the ovulation...

By the way, next time try to drink a chamomile tea instead of cocoa. Chocolate has caffeine, that may prevent you from sleeping.

I'm having a hard time sleeping at night. What can I do to get at least 6 hours of rest?

First, what is causing the insomnia? Second, have you seen or made an appointment with a physician? Is it the falling asleep or staying asleep? Or both? For the time being, I would recommend an herbal tea with no caffeine, and some melatonin. It's OTC and natural.

Every time I fly long flights, I have a hard time sleeping and feel very uncomfortable in the seats. I take 1/2 a pill of Dramamine, but I still only sleep for like 1 hour. Are there any tips?

Here is what works for me.Don’t eat on the flight - get to the AP early and eat there.never drink alcohol before or during a flight.Check with the airline whether the seats have adjustable headrests to prevent SIDE-to SIDE movement = if not take an inflatable neck pillowWear an eye mask to take out extraneous lightGET YOURSELF A VERY GOOD PAIR OF NOISE CANCELING HEAD PHONES - YOU WILL BE SURPRISED HOW MUCH BACKGROUND NOISE THERE IS ON A PLANE. THESE REALLY HELP. Choose some favorite relaxing music to lull you to sleep.Wear loose clothing, Dont put any baggage under the seat - you need to stretch out.Put your watch.phone etc. on the new time zone on the way to the airport - start thinking the new time early. You can also gain maybe a couple of hours of time change BEFORE you travel this way.Use the blanket to cover you, this gives a sense of being in a bed.I have now perfected this regimen whereby I can be asleep as soon as the door closes and wake up as the wheels touch down on arrival.Safe travels If you like this answer please upvote/share it for others.

Night shift worker. Having a hard time sleeping?

I work part time nights (11pm-7:30am) and usually when it’s my first night to work I will wake up at my usual time in the morning (8-9am) and take a 3 hour nap before my shift. And then when I get off of work, will go to sleep right away and sleep for 4-5 hours then sleep again for another 3 hours before my shift. I used to have no problems sleeping before, I would knock out right after my shift and would need my alarm to wake me up. Lately, I come home, and I’m just wide awake and cannot sleep for the life of me. It could be that I am part time and I’m always switching my sleep schedule, but this was never a problem before so I don’t understand why it’s a problem now. I don’t know what I can do to help me sleep. I do take benadryl sometimes but I hate putting medication in my body like that. And also, I have an eye mask and ear plugs when I sleep.
