Really Puffy Gums Braces

How to treat swollen gums with braces on????

I would use a mouthwash that helps with the sores and irritation - something with peroxide in it. I use Peroxyl (Colgate product) when my gums are bothering me or if I am having any oral irritation with my braces.

You could easily have something stuck between the braces and the gum line. Are you flossing regularly?

Water picks do work nicely and tend not to hurt. You can put mouthwash in the water solution to make the water feel better or at least taste better.

Are you seeing your hygenist regularly? I see mine every 3mons now that I am in braces, compared to the every 6 without the braces on.

One other option is that you might be allergic to something in your toothpaste, current mouthwash, or flouride gel that you are using. Any of those could also cause irritation as well. Have you tried changing any of them recently to see how your gums react?

Swollen gums after I got my braces off ?

If you brush properly it will go down on its own. When you brush don't brush straight across from left to right, brush in a circular motion to ensure that you are brushing the gums. They might bleed at first but that's ok it will eventually stop. Even if it is sore brush the gums they will toughen up. The reason they started growing over your braces is because you weren't brushing your gums properly but now that the braces are off, it will be easier to reach areas that were difficult to brush. Use listerine it kills germs very well. Also make sure you get a good cleaning from a hygienist, this should be done when braces are removed.

Really puffy gums? I got my braces off.?

I had my braces off around about Four months ago. After having them removed i asked my Orthodontist why i had bumps around my teeth that where hard, she told me not to worry as they were just from where you brush you teeth and the places you cant reach because of your brace being there will inflame.
She told me not too worry as they would go down within a couple of days she recommended too brush teeth regularly and to use an anti-septic mouth was such as Listerine and the inflammation would go down in time. Hope this helped you.

I got my braces off today but my gums are really swollen and it looks awful. How can I get rid of the swelling fast?

Thanks for A2ADoes swelling happened prior to removal of braces or after the removal of braces?Anyway, after the removal of braces your dentist should have cleaned your teeth. Swollen gums w/ braces?

It is common with braces to see the gums get swollen and infected with gingivitis. It is almost positively gingivitis since the gums will bleed as a result. If you haven't had a dental cleaning with a hygienist or dentist recently you should have an appointment. They will remove the buildup (soft plaque and hard tartar) so you can then brush and floss effectively. Generally the more diligent you are with brushing, flossing and rinsing the better your gums will respond. You should be brushing at least 2-3 times a day with floss and listerine or salt water. You may also be experiencing hormonal fluctuations that are causing the gums to be inflammed. I actually have some ortho patients that come in for cleanings every 3 months instead of every 6 months. Generally after the braces are off the swelling will reduce some as you are able to get at the gums better. You might also consider getting an electric toothbrush and (my personal favorite when I had braces) a proxybrush.

Swollen GUms (braces)?

Gum swelling is very common while wearing braces, especially when your braces are adjusted or you start a new protocol (like elastics). It should only occur for the first few days after a tightening or a change in procedure.

Try using a salt water rinse for the swelling. Dissolve 1/2 tsp of table salt in a cup of warm water. Swish in your mouth for one minute, then spit out. Do this each night before bed, and the swelling should subside. If your gums are still swollen and not going down after 4 or 5 days, you need to go back in and see your orthodontist, because something else may be wrong.

What should I do if my gums are swelling because of my braces?

Some people wearing braces might develop gum swelling even with fair oral hygiene, that is because the gums under the orthodontic forces will be very sensitive even for minor amounts of irritants such as plaque or calculus (deposits on teeth, tartar) resulting in inflammatory enlargements (gum growths) which over a period of time gets fibrotic (chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement) in which case oral hygiene mainatainance alone cannot reduce the swollen gums.It requires some surgical correction from a periodontist (gingivectomy/ plasty).

I have braces and sore puffy gumbs. No matter how many times I floss it wouldn't go down. How else can I go finally put this discomfort to an end?

Hello! The orthodontic braces provide extra sites for the plaque to accumulate. Thus, maintaining oral hygiene becomes crucial. Flossing is a good measure to take care of the plaque in between the teeth. But if the flossing is not done correctly it will makw more space between the teeth and the gums. This will lead to food lodgement and more plaque accumulation. This plaque further results into inflammation of the gums ie. the puffiness you have mentioned.I would advise you to visit your dentist to get a session of cleaning done. Use mouth wash or do warm salt water swish daily. Ask your dentist to demonstrate flossing or use alternative method (proxa brush). In diet I would suggest you to eat fresh citrus fruits like lemon, oranges etc. these provide vitamin C to keep your gums healthy.Good Luck!

How to reduce swollen gums with braces?

i've had braces since october of last year and just recently in january i got my braces tightened for the first time and they put and elastic over the bottom brackets to start closes some of the bottom spaces. well since then my gums at the bottom started swelling and its swollen to the point were it makes my bottom teeth look really short and i cant floss. i went to the ortho back in march to get them tightened again and they put the elastics on the top to start closing the gap and they told me that they couldnt start back closing the bottom spaces because my gums are swollen. they showed me what to do and it looked easy when they did it but when i try to do it i dont see any results. can someone help me and give me somethings to do to reduce the swelling? i go backon the 16th of this month and i would like them to start closing the bottom spaces again

Why are my gums swollen with braces?

Talk to your dentist about it, clinical examination of the actual case is necessary (done in clinics) rather clinical assumptions (done in quora). Here’s my clinical assumption which is in general view. You might not cleaning or brushing your teeth properly or you might not have the proper tool in maintaining the cleanliness of your teeth. Having braces on in your teeth is not as easy as not having braces. Brushing teeth with braces on it takes time and dedication. You can use an orthobrush which is intended for teeth with braces (it has a different bristles shape than ordinary toothbrush) which include interproximal space brush (in between your teeth) and dental floss, use mouthwah as well for sure having a swollen gums creates bad smelling odor (bad breath).Advice: go to your dentist and if necessary or needed for oral prophylaxis (OP) avail it, after your OP treatment start religiously clean your teeth using the above mentioned cleaning paraphernalia.Good Luck!
