Really Serious Sharp Back Pain When Yawning And Deep Breaths

I have pain in one of my ribs. When I yawn or breathe in, a sharp pain occurs. What is wrong?

Maybe a gas pocket. Drink some ginger ale and burp and fart a couple timews. It might go away. It works for me.

If you wear bras with an underwire, that wire may make your rib sore. I know sometimes my bras do that.

Really serious sharp back pain when yawning and deep breaths?

Every time I yawn or breath in I get a serious sharp pain like uncontrollable i can hardly stand it. Does anyone know why this is happening it's like right on the sides and my mid back!

Severe back pain when breathing?

There is a very painful spot on the left side of my middle/upper back.
I can't take a deep breathe or yawn without serious pain, can't even bend over.
To take a deep breath, I have to raise my left shoulder as high as I can, and lean over to the right.
This has been going on for 4 days and is only getting worse. All moving and breathing hurts. I've also had chest pains, and am obviously very short of breath.

I plan on calling the doctor tomorrow, but what can I expect from an exam for this? I'm only 20 and I haven't injured my back or anything, so I have no clue what could be going on.

Sharp chest pain when I take a deep breath or yawn?

Pinched back muscles often send the pains around your body on the nerves to be pains in your rib, chest or heart areas. The muscles are just tight but when you yawn or take a deep breath your spine is moving to cause the pains to happen in the muscles, to pinch them. To get rid of the pain you have to free up your back muscles to release the tight ones and here's how to free them up:
Back:
(do while sitting)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Pain on right side of chest with deep breaths, yawning, laughing, lying down?

I would guess that if you put pressure on the little areas where the ribs join the breastbone - more in the middle of the chest, that you would feel even more pain. The symptoms you are describing are most likely a condition called costochondritis - is an inflammation of the joints that join the ribs to the breastbone. These are very small joints made out of cartilage. It explains that when you take deep breaths, yawn, sneeze, cough - you get that very sharp pain. If you lie on your stomach, there is no way that you can sleep. It can be caused by: a virus, coughing a lot, some sort of trauma or nothing.

The good news is that in most cases it will go away within 6 weeks. The basic treatment is - NASAIDS - things like Aleive, Advil or Aspirin is extremely effective if you are not allergic. Ice or heat may also help. Other things, no heavy lifting of any kind, that includes book bags or backpacks - 7lbs or less.

If there is no improvement after a couple of weeks, most definitely go and see your doctor.

Pain underneath my right shoulder, pain while breathing deeply and yawning?

I've tried doing research on this to pinpoint some sort of at-home treatment to prevent seeing the doctor (can't afford right now). Basically, I have a constant degree of pain below my right shoulder that I've never had before. The only thing I really can see that caused it was some stretching, but that isn't out the of ordinary. Its been pretty constant now for 3 days and even hurts when I inhale deeply or yawn.

Anyone out there expieriencing this too? Any recommendations for treatment. Currrently I'm taking 8-hour tylenol.

Thank you!
