Recommend Some Software

What are some recommended publishing software?

It's very, very difficult, almost impossible, to run any sort of publishing business without a modern version of Adobe Acrobat.  InDesign and Creative Suite are very helpful, near-standards, but if you are committed  or cheap, you can meet your needs with open-source layout and graphics alternatives such as Scribus and GIMP. Don't over-spend on e-book publishing tools, the free ones are fine.

Would you recommend a fresher to learn some softwares before joining Nicmar Pune-ACM? What are the softwares to look out for?

Which software do you recommend for editing music?

There are lots of good options, some are free, some are cheap. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on this one, but the tool I use for creating and editing music is FL Studio. The free version is the full version, but only lets you export. You can’t save the project and reload it later, unless you get one of the paid versions. Feature comparison list here.I don’t recommend the highest version as a starting point, as it comes with so many plugins and synths that you will spend forever learning them. The $99 version already has a lot of features included, and they give birthday week discounts each year. The reason I like this tool, is it’s very fast to go from an idea to being built, and also has very powerful slicing tools available if you want to do remixes.I find the workflow very easy to follow in this program, but I tried Ableton Live, and while I can see it is powerful, it feels clumsy for me. Other producers love it, especially for live editing/ DJ remixing, so add it to your list of programs to check out.It supports VSTs, and the program itself is designed to allow it to be run as a VST, so if you find a different program you prefer to use, such as Ableton Live 9 Lite, you can load FL Studio as a VST within the program. It has become a very popular music editing program worldwide, and like all programs, many still criticise it, but it continues to be updated, and has lifetime free updates on the main program. So while the price looks more in some ways, you only pay it once, rather than paying each time a major update is released. I don’t know of any other DAW that provides ongoing free updates. Some programs state they offer lifetime free updates within the same version, but that doesn’t seem very secure to me.They release VST plugins and synths from time to time, some free, some ongoing trials and some paid.To see a comparison of the pros and cons of the various popular DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) for 2016, have a look at this article.

Can you recommend some good books in Software testing?

As software testing is now more preferred through automation, books which gives you the knowledge of the automation testing is more preferred these days. Some of the best resources from where you can get good & recommended books related to the software testing are:FROMDEVAFourTechSoftware Testing HelpAmazonApart from these books, you can also refer to few online stuff like blogs related to the software testing & software test automation. Few of them are:Software Testing Help (A Must Visit Software Testing Portal),Testingwhiz (Automated Code-less Software Testing Blog),Gallop (Gallop - Blog | A blog from Software Testing Specialists),uTest (https://www.utest.com/),Software Testing Club (Software Testing Club - An Online Software Testing Community), etc.

Can someone recommend some video editing software?

Remember: you get what you pay for....Mac: iMoviePC: Windows Movie Maker.  iPhone:  Trim & Cut, Cute CUT (up to 30 second clips) for free version, and also iMovie. For a beginner these apps and softwares are very serviceable.  You can trim and cut video clips, create transitions. You can add different video clips and design simple graphics and import photos and music.  Some have built-in filters (mostly pretty hokey). What you cannot do, is have multiple video tracks (layers) or split audio (keep audio from one video while showing another). Output is limited too, so no custom file sizes or formats.  After that I would go directly professional and choose Adobe CC (Cloud) subscription.   Available are either a single software (for video editing that would be Premiere), or the entire software package, for both PC and Mac platforms (you can even split within one subscription that gives you two downloads).  No upgrades ever, like a phone app you're always on the latest version. If you get the entire enchilada you pay about $60 per month and have the world of design and digital media creation and manipulation at your fingertips.  It might be worth it.Happy creating!

What is some software recommended for a chemical engineer?

Hey. I would recommend these program for you to obtain as a fellow chemical engineer:MS Excel. Single most beautiful program made by microsoft. I am currently using excel for material and heat balancing. If you could use it well this program could follow any kind of command no matter how big the data is just by inserting your own basis.MS Visio. Simple and every chemical engineers need to have it as a part from flowsheeting. Many symbols and standarised object can be inserted for creating instrumentation flowsheet or whole process flowsheet.Scilab. I like using scilab for solving algebraic problems. It is easy, better than using any kind of math solver program. You could name it, like gaussian, taylor, anything.SPSS. Talking about statistics, you could choose this program. I currently use this program for my research. You could make use of it for ANOVA or any kind of data testing.ASPEN HYSYS. Highly important if you are about to go into petrochemical or oil and gas job. I solved many of my multicomponent distillation using this program, i mean i dont usually do material balancing when it comes to non antoine equation of state.ANSYS FLUENT. Mainly, i evaluating my equipment performance using fluent to understand the fluid dynamics. To understand the equipment, you need to understand the behaviour of the material inside your equipment.Bentley OpenPlant Modeler. I do create impression on my design by creating 3D picture of how my plant really look like. It is simple. You could freely create an object by inserting your own design with metric or imperial unit.Google earth. Do not underestimate the power of google earth. With this, you could determine where you could place your plant, but of course if you are into EPC kind of thing, this is the one of the most important executable program.Lesser used program:Wolfram. Not into it but quite useful.Fortran. Old but good, but meh i dont use it often.Aveva. Aveva is the alternative to Bentley OpenPlant Modeler. Once i used it but i came to conclusion that Bentley is better.AutoCad. I dont think you need it. Anyhow its better to use AutoCad to illustrate equipment design, but i AutoCad need more high specs computer, so i recommend something more like Bentley.I hope this will help you. Cheers.

What are some recommended skills a software engineer should focus on for his/her career?

You should try to gain experience in different stages of the software lifecycle. Software engineering is not just about coding. Coding is a part of the entire software lifecycle.A software engineer should apply the engineering principles to requirements, design, maintenance, and testing stages other than implementation. Each one of these stages has a unique role in the final software. You need to take these stages into consideration for success.Probably, You wouldn't be an expert in all of these stages, but it's good to have experiences these stages to understand what the software is, and how good software is developing.
