Why do video games become more boring the older you are? Do people grow out of enjoying this type of content as they get older or are current video games less innovative than in the past?

Unlike most of the other answerers here, I'm going to agree with you that video games do become more boring the older you are. But, I think that's broadly true of anything: the music, books, movies, television that you enjoyed when you were younger are probably also more boring to you. This is not a mystery, it's just plain old maturation.Still, there are a few factors that make video games unique, as far as this question goes.First: the path to discovering more intellectually engaging work is harder to find. In most cases, your smart friends won't know. There's no shared cultural resource like libraries, or a canon. There aren't any well-known awards or publishers who recognize the better works.Getting into deeper film, on the other hand, you have broadly recognized resources for learning about high quality works: scores of literature, appreciation classes, film festivals, awards shows, curation efforts like The Criterion Collection...In this respect, video games remain in the margins.Second: say what you will about what Hollywood, but there are at least a dozen actually great movies being released every year, with major studio marketing behind them. I can't say the same for video games — and I say this as someone who believes video games are by far the most important art form going right now. This means that the best work won't be on the shelves at your local store. It's much harder to chance upon a great game without knowing where to look.Third: I think video games have an inherent novelty factor that is harder to find in other media. Better graphics, new input schemes, more elaborate worlds — these are unrelated to quality yet they have their own draw. I think this kinda stuff has a more pronounced effect the younger you are, and wears off when you go seeking meaningful intellectual stimulation.Assuming you want to keep enjoying video games, I would encourage you to seek out the work that has matured along with you. It's out there.

How can I increase my focus on reading books instead of browsing random blogs, websites, Quora or Reddit feeds?

Well I went through the same concern and realized   that as much as I loved reading ... i couldn’t control doing the other things   you mentioned, mostly because the environment was more conducive to get   attracted/distracted to browsing and the internet. So I decided to join a   nearby library and in fact joined three of them including a 24/7 one.     The thing is that a library is the perfect environment to motivate you to   read.  As soon as I reach there, all I can do and feel like doing is to READ. It’s   not like I was forcing myself to read but an atmosphere like that really   makes a big big difference. Me alone in my home with all the gadgets and full   speed wifi vs. me with 50 other people with their heads in their books.           If today I call myself a reader ...it’s only because of the library...and now   I can easily pick up books anywhere anytime. Plus I even read many ebooks out   there on my tablet. At the library, I also used the internet judiciously for   research and to understand better what I read.     Also I think you must ask yourself why you want to READ more. How is it   better than other alternatives? Why it deserves more of your time. Unless you   have reasoned out why it is important to you...no amount of external help can   make a difference. Once you have...arrange for more chances to get attracted   towards it. For example when you travel...don’t carry earphones if u often   listen to music...instead carry a book. Plus if you’re habituated to your   tablet....download/purchase EBooks. Don’t make it necessary to read hard   copies only. For loads of ebooks….try http://bookzz.org/ ….though its illegal   let me warn you. Pick up genres that interest you specially page turners.   Keep the books easily at your disposal. Do anything to make them more   accessible.   I think READING BOOKs is of utmost importance. It’s transcending. It changes   you for the better (depending on the books you choose though). The other   things you mentioned are also important but so is READING BOOKS. Keep trying   until you succeed.   Good Luck!!!
