Can i renew my geico auto insurance for just two months rather than six months?

Is buying insurance online better than buying from an agent?

Buying Insurance online is definitely cheaper but is it better depends on various factors.  Again, normally you can only buy Term Plans online i.e., Plain Insurance without any investment component in it.  If you buy it online, you need to set up standing instructions for payment of premiums since there will no agent to remind you of the same. Another problem you may encounter is that in the event of any problems with the company you will have to deal with it yourself.  You will need to keep your family informed about the Policy and the claim forms (normally sent with the Policy document) so that they face no problems during the claim, if any.  Of course, there have been instances where one has bought a policy through an agent who at a later date has given up his agency or has been terminated by the company and have faced the very problems mentioned.  Remember even if the agent is not servicing the policy or has been terminated your premium does not undergo a change.  So, if you are buying a policy through an agent please go to an agent who has been in business and has a reputation of prompt servicing. When you buying policy online please note to fill your Self Health Declaration correctly to ensure that the claim is not rejected at a later date.  Keep your family informed of the policy and the process.  The difference between the premium on policy online and policy through agent can be as much as 20% to 30%.  Please also avoid buying Term policies with return of premium as it works out costlier.

When your motor insurance is up for renewal do you accept the renewal price or do you shop around for a better deal?

When your motor insurance is up for renewal do you accept the renewal price or do you shop around for a better deal? For most people, their insurance renews every 6 months, shopping new rates every 6 months is a LOT of work. Usually, I recommend shopping only after a substantial rate hike, to be determined by you.1) Every company raises their rates usually once per year. In a bad year it could be twice, and in an exceptionally good year, it might take 14 to 18 months between rate changes.2) No, the insurance companies do NOT consider you a sap, NOR are they punishing you with rate increases. If claims go up in your zip code, everybody in your zip code gets a rate increase. (NOTE: If a company only surcharged those who put in a claim, you would NOT be able to afford the cost of insurance after a claim, because YOU would ultimately pay for YOUR claim!)Stop taking rate increases personally. You want rates to go down, REPORT your family, neighbors and friends, when you know that they are sticking it to the insurance company and getting money that they do NOT deserve. But since we know that you won’t do that, JUST STOP COMPLAINING. If you aren’t reporting those people that YOU KNOW are committing insurance fraud, then you are part of the reason that the rates are going up.

Is it possible for me to obtain cheaper auto insurance?

Me and my mother are under her policy at American Family. We have full coverage for her 2011 Mazda CX-9 and my 2009 Chevy Equinox and we pay $345/month. 2019 is around the corner and one my resolutions is to save money. This is a fleeting task given how much we pay.I have two part-time jobs but I feel like I can never stay ahead. We used to have cheaper insurance from American access but after my accident in may 2016, they dropped us. I haven't had any accidents since and my mother not in the pass 10 years. Being that I'm 25, co-workers etc, have told me that I'll never get a good rate. I don't think that's true since we are both great drivers without moving violations or speeding tickets. Any pointers or suggestions that can help me find full coverage for both vehicles is greatly appreciated.

Renewing California Drivers' License -Retake written test?!?

Thanks for all your help. I am choosing to renew in person because I will be going out of the country for half a year, and the expiry of my license lapses within the 6 months that I will be gone. I have not received my renewal notice..and I have recently moved to a new apt (so I won't be able to renew online)..all these reasons are bringing me to the DMV appointment next week.

I am only worried that I need to retake a written test in prompt to... From everyone's advise, I still can't get a feel how DMV in California decides whether one needs to retake the written test for license renewal. Quite perplexing..

Thanks for all your help in advance!

I finished my first 6 month auto insurance plan with GEICO, is there any way to get a lower rate than my $267 renewal?

You are at a perfect position to potentially save since you are now eligible for a prior insurance discount with most companies.  The question will always be, "Can I get it lower?" but the only way to find out is to shop around.  You could find that Geico is still offering the lowest rate (and to be honest, $267 for six months of coverage is quite low) or you may find a company offering a lower rate but you won't know for sure until you look.  We offer a great comparison tool on our site for auto insurance at The Zebra.  Another thing to keep in mind is that your prior insurance discount grows as you maintain coverage for longer lengths so, once you hit 12 months of continuous coverage, you should see your rates decrease even farther.

Why does my car insurance premium go up every 6 months, without having any tickets or driving violations? What should I do about it? I'm in my mid 30's, male, single. I drive a 2002 Honda that I keep in a garage at night.

Your car insurance premiums can go up every 6 months at no fault of your own. Which is why it’s important to shop every 6 months on a quote comparison site (like Insurify) to be sure you’re getting the cheapest rate.Your car insurance premium could go up because:1. Your area’s population, weather, and crime rates have changedIf you live in a highly populated area with a sudden wave of severe weather or high levels of theft you will pay more to protect your vehicle; especially if your provider insures many drivers in the area.Research and get quotes from insurance companies that protect fewer drivers in your area and you may get you a lower premium rate.2. Your car insurance company increased premiums to keep up with risk throughout the yearProviders change their rates many times throughout the year to make up for certain time-specific risk factors, like tornado or hurricane seasons.Shopping for car insurance during tornado season will show you higher car insurance premiums than if you waited for an off-season.These daily rate changes are small, but can add up over a period of 6 months.Important note: insurance companies’ rate hikes or reductions must be approved by your state’s insurance department.3. Your state changed an insurance lawYour state’s insurance department sets the legal requirements for liability, personal injury protection, and other coverage options. So, when requirements change with new legislation, you’ll need more or less coverage to comply with new minimums. What you should do about it:Shop for car insurance quotes every 6 months: It’ll keep track of personal changes that could affect your rates (getting married, driving less, etc.)Prior carrier discount: Also known as a switching providers discount, this rewards you for starting a policy with a new auto insurance carrier. The insurance industry is highly competitive and companies will do almost anything for your business, like offering you as much as 5% off your premium rates for leaving your old insurance carrier in favor of them.

What happens if I don't tell my auto insurance company my new address?

If you do not give your insurance company your correct address, to avoid paying the correct premium for the risk, you are actually committing fraud. Number one, your insurance company could refuse to pay if you have an accident or claim. Number two, the premiums you had paid are therefore wasted. Number three, you have committed a criminal act by representing to the State that you are properly insured as required (a false statement). Number four, you could be personally sued by anyone who is injured or suffers a loss caused by you.

Check other companies for a lower premium, but pay the premium based on true declarations, for your own protection.

Can I change my two wheeler insurance policy company?

There are a number of reasons why you might have to change your motorbike insurance policy during the year it is in force: for example, if you buy a new bike or want to add another rider to your cover.Pretty much every provider will allow you to make straightforward amendments such as these, but in most cases you will be faced with an administration charge for doing so.This will be on top of any increases in your premiums which could result from you changing to a more powerful or expensive type of motorcycle, or from adding a more inexperienced driver. When do you need to make amendments?Part of the terms and conditions of your motorbike insurance policy will be the obligation to inform your provider if there are any fundamental changes to the people or the bike they are insuring.Basically, your insurer needs to know if the risk they are covering changes in any way. Major alterations must be brought to your provider’s attention — and failure to do so could result in your policy being deemed invalid, and any future claims being rejected or reduced. For example if you modify your bike to make it more powerful, from your insurer’s point of view you are increasing the risk of being involved in an accident. If you fail to tell them about the modification, but they later find out when investigating a claim, they could take the view that you are underinsured and refuse to make a payout. Why else might you need to change your policy? You want to add a named driverYou are planning a trip to Europe and wish to extend your cover to the Continent for a short periodYou or a named rider have changed jobs, or the way you use the motorcycle — for example if you start commuting with itYour or a named rider are given a conviction for a motoring offenceYou move home or change where the bike is kept overnight.Your motorcycle licence has changed if you have completed a new courseIf you’re not sure whether you should inform your insurer about a change, it is best to err on the side of caution: if it is relevant and you don’t inform them, you could risk riding without proper cover.
