How can I check if someone has insurance if they are renting a car from me?

It is not a very much different thing, you must check for some document when they are getting car rental from you.A copy of the declarations page) that insurance company issues when someone covers his vehicle.A copy of the insurance binder signed by the licensed insurance agent or broker.A copy of the application for any state-specific insurance program, signed by the insurance agent.A copy of a letter from the insurance company stating details about your coverage. An electronic view of your information

Should i purchase insurance when renting a car from the rental company?

Yes, the WHOLE idea behind a rental car is to "Drive it like you stole it" that extra insurance will allow you to total their vehicle without it affecting your insurance on your vehicle. if you insurance policy (VERY Little of them do--they cover the vehicle they are purchased for) does cover rentals then if you total their rental YOUR rate goes up.

Does a rental car have liability insurance?

In the United States that is true except in the state of California where rental car companies do not automatically provide any liability protection to the renter as part of the standard rental agreement. However, some (e.g. Hertz) may provide the minimum primary liability protection to international customers (driver's license indicates an address outside the USA) renting in California. This means drivers need to provide their own liability insurance when renting in California. In general, US residents should already be covered by their regular auto insurance but drivers need to confirm that they have the minimum level of liability insurance from their own insurance company. If not, renters will need to purchase purchase liability insurance (LIS or SLI) through the car rental company, or a non-owner liability insurance policy.

Need to rent a car, Under Parents Car Insurance Policy?

I need to rent a car for a trip and I'm fully covered under my parents car insurance policy right now. I dont have my own car insurance cause I have no vehicle registered under my name yet. Would I just need the proof of insurance to rent a car even if its under my parents name? Or would my parents need to add some sort of rental car policy under my name on the insurance? Any help would be much appreciated.

Can I finance or lease a car without auto insurance?

You clearly DO NOT understand insurance. Sit down with an agent and have it explained to you BEFORE you go out and finance or lease a car.

Tip: You should not finance or lease a car simply to build your credit. That would be fooli$h

When renting a car in the USA, is it better to get collision damage insurance from the rental company or use the insurance offered by your credit card? Why?

Never rely on your credit card. Whether you decide to take the rental company’s collision damage waiver (CDW) or use your own personal insurance coverage is up to you but never rely on your credit card.Disclaimer, if you have an AMEX black card or similar, this does not apply to you, they will almost always cover anything because you are already paying about $250/mo for the coverage so they make money on it even when they pay out.Anyway, to make a claim on your credit card successfully, the number one requirement is there is a police report. How many fender benders do you know get police reports? Very few.If you have no police report and it happens on private property, you have nothing and you will eat it yourself. Some lady nails you in a parking lot and drives off you are screwed. Parking lots are private property.CDW is awesome. I no longer work in rental and I still get it. The idea that I can having something happen to my rental, my fault or someone else’s doesn’t matter. I don’t have to come out of pocket for anything. I simply turn in the car, give them the story of what happened and they write up a report. I pay my bill and I’m off on my way.Caveat to this is, if you violate the terms of your contract in any way that leads to the damage to the car, you are liable. negligence and such. For example, if you were drinking and driving or using drugs, or letting someone not authorized to drive the vehicle and it was damaged, that would pierce the CDW veil.Final Note - I worked in rental for several years and have only seen a credit card step up to cover damage (partial cover) once. Every other time, the cc found a way out of it.I encourage everyone to get CDW if you’re in the rental for 1 - 2 weeks or less. If not, then at least rely on your own insurance. Don’t rely on your cc to cover you.
