How do I repair an old basement floor? The concrete is uneven, cracked and pitted.?

Is it unlevel from wall to wall? Slanting?

Stretch a string across the high point and attach to the opposite wall, in both directions.
Level the string, keeping it on the high point.
If there is a big difference at the walls, a gap from the string to floor, you'll be able to see how much filling it will take to level the floor, wall to wall.
At a doorway, this could create a slight "step up". You may be able to live with that, but it will have to be framed across the doorway, the height of the needed filling, to create a finished edge.

If you still want to proceed, the first thing to do is fill the "cracks" with a concrete filler. This is not concrete, (concrete will crack again). It's a special filler available at home suppliers, commonly used for driveway cracks.

That done, you then want to level and smooth the floor.

The very best product is "latex leveler". The product requires mixing latex and powder, not sand. This is also available at home suppliers. The latex and powder comes as a unit.

If the floor needs more material in some low spots than others, fill those first and smooth. Let those areas dry. It may take several hours.

Once those low spots are filled, you should be able to spread the material beginning at one end and continue backwards. (Don't paint your self in a corner.)
This must be done gradually, smoothing out as you continue, by scraping and trowling. Once dry, the material can be sanded to give it a suitable finish. Use a mask.

This material is used to smooth a floor, suitable for installing hard surface. It is time consuming but a lasting finish and moisture resistant.

Good luck.

Jacking Floors and Leveling?

Hi,my floors in my house are sloping going to back of the house.I estimate to be around 2 inch sag possibly 3.The sag is indeed in the middle. We had repairs done to the deteriorated sills and they were replaced,2 long sections of the beam. The contractor obviously did not know what he was doing because the floors are still the same and we were out half the expense of 3k,which he wanted upfront. The sag is worser because the contractor moved a pier or post that was under the beam(kitchen area) and put it directly under the bathroom joist.Things were settling afterwards and doors were getting stuck and staying that way for maybe a week at different intervals.I will like to jack it myself.I was informed to take sills and nail together for beam to spread load out(under joist) and put one on both sides(middle of floor) of the sagging area with bottle or screw jacks at both ends and lift it.Is this correct? do both beam at same time? post stay in place?
700 sq ft, 25x27 dimensions, tell how?

Can a swollen wooden flooring be normal again? What are the methods of recovery?

It is very difficult to recover swollen wood as once if it starts swollen it becomes very difficult to repair it. It also depends upon till what limit it has been swollen because it may be possible that it will cost you same like installing new wood flooring, then there is no sense of repairing it.If you want to install wooden flooring for lifelong than you should use premium woods which can be higher in quality and pocket-friendly. Because cheap quality wood will give you maintenance work regularly.Always choose reclaimed wood which is very high and premium in quality :If you still want to go with regular wood then it will look like following pictures and you will need to repair it again and again:

Uneven floors in the house we are planning to buy?

Is this normally a major issue?
Yes.
Are we nuts to proceed with this house?
Yes.
Please advise and share your experiences.
You need to verify whether it is from a poor foundation or you have a good foundation and it was just built this way. Poor foundation could continue to deteriorate and might be due to poor drainage, plumbing leaks, etc. You need to get to the bottom of it as it has the potential to be a money pit.
We only have 3 more days before he contingency ends.
Don't be pressured/rushed into what likely is the largest purchase of your life.
I wouldn't buy any house that didn't have a clean bill of health or an estimate to get it that way. You have neither.

What is the best way to re-level a garage floor if it has significant cracks?

I had to face this just a couple of years ago on one of the homes we flipped. There was a pretty big settling crack and a small problem with the pieces no longer being level. This was a roughly fifteen foot long crack that stopped after crossing the garage. What my engineer had us do was first bring in a concrete cutter and give us a small trench cutting around that crack giving a place to put new concrete. The cutter also cut across the crack roughly every six inches. All was first well cleaned with a special solution to help the new concrete stick to the old. Those cross cuts let us epoxy in cross metal bars centered about half way in that slab. We then put in new concrete and leveled as best as we could. Then we used a long level as a straight edge and diamond concrete grinding wheel with collection vacuum and cyclone separator to grind the result nice and flat. All was sealed then coated with a chip seeded epoxy garage floor coating.

Does it cost more to repair a broken window if it is on the upper level (21st floor) of an apartment building?

No, it shouldn't.

Re-glazing is the construction industry term for replacing the glass in a window. If the frame is still intact and the window can be replaced from the inside of the apartment and there is a way to get it up to that floor then it shouldn't cost more to replace it. A 7' X 5' window should still be able to fit in an elevator. A contractor can remove the frame and jamb holding the window from the inside of the apartment and then he should be able to replace it easily.

Check your local home supply center for a reputable contractor, some places will even do the work themselves. Any general contractor should be able to handle this easy job. I wouldn't try it myself unless you know what you are doing though because you want to get a good seal and make sure the window is square and level and it works as designed.

Apartment companies are responsible for their own maintenance and they replace their own windows. Normally they have someone on staff or a regular contractor who they use to do the job.

How can I fix a cracked concrete garage floor, then level it?

It's a garage. What the hell. Give the epoxy a shot, but 2″ of leveling compound is too much. You have the floor covered with carpet so looks don't bother you. You have choices and I'm guessing money is an issue because the other answers are right. Fix the underlying problem if you can. Otherwise seal the cracks (chip out the cracks so they are at least 1/2 inch) and epoxy. Then either pour new concrete at least 1″ thick and finish. It won't last forever, but most settlement happens in the first 5 years unless you have a washout problem.
