Republicans Minimum Wage Question

Why do Republicans hate minimum wage employees; why do they think they are all lazy and stupid?

Is it because many of them are now REFUSING to be exploited by the Gods the Republicans worship...Corporations?

Is it because republicans are just greedy, selfish, heartless, and refuse to pay ONE PENNY of their own to help those minimum wage workers?

Is it because republicans are such fools to believe that minimum wage income employees will ever be able to afford to get a college education, and thus a real job? Please answer me how some one making $7.25 can pay for rent, food, clothing AND a 15K College tuition bill (community college degrees are just as worthless as High School diplomas)

Is it because Republicans foolishly believe minimum wage jobs provide useful skills? Because they DO NOT. How is "do you want fries with that"? Or "Clean up aisle 7" a useful skill? How can minimum wage employees ever gain useful skills when they are traped working such dead end jobs that don't even pay enough to improve?

Is it because republicans WRONGLY believe that starting at the bottom will lead to a promotion? Are Republicans not aware that MOST if not ALL minimum wage jobs are DEAD END and don lead to anything..and IF they do it takes 10-15years getting paid joke wages just to get up to an ALMOST livable wage?

Or is it just because republicans believe in a system of economic slavery--that some people should always be poor and should never have a chance to advance in life?

Why don't Republicans support an increased minimum wage?

The truth of the matter is most capitalist Republicans would love if there was no minimum wage whatsoever. This is because they see themselves as the " God" ordained hierarchy the so called founding fathers bequeathed this all hallowed white country to. If they had their way for the most part they'd be able to pay certain individuals that they deem less than any wages they'd like. You see minimum wage is just 1 of a plethora of issues that involve what they perceive as giving to undeserving and even worse undesirables" At this very date Republicans still champion the virtues of" trickle down economics" and have done so for over 30 years. And you see where that's gotten the middle class and poor individuals even worse off. Raising minimum wage or even having a minimum wage would undoubtedly put a dent in the capitalist dreams of Republicans. Remember Republicans / conservatives are regressive in their thinking and generally want society back as it was 50years ago.

Why is it that Republicans oppose increasing the minimum wage?

Because in the long run it will be a net loss to the working class. Prices will go up way out of proportion to the increase to the ones that are putatively being helped. Even the McDonald's in my area is already paying well above minimum just to get people to work there. So why legislate something that is automatically being adjusted by the laws of supply and demand.

The real problem is the number of people trying to live outside their means. Having more children than they can afford. Deciding to buy a house that they can barely afford then not being able to make the payments when their adjustable rate mortgage rate goes up. Most of the real problems with the American economy isn't on the government side, it's on the side of poor choices made by individuals.

Minimum Wage debate questions~?

1. Minimum wage jobs are not meant to provide a standard of living. You're not supposed to run out and get a 30 year mortgage while making $8/hr. One would maintain their standard of living by working hard and trying to better themselves to get a job that pays more. Minimum wage jobs are not career paths.

2. I don't know if lowering minimum wage could even be discussed. So many low wage earners would go absolutely apeshit if this was even mentioned on the news.

3. You can't assure one won't be exploited for their labors. Matter of fact, working a shitty robotic dead end job is exactly that, exploiting someone for labor. See, working a **** job should be a temporary thing. If digging ditches for $5/hr sucks, that should be motivation to find a real trade, or get some education under your belt so you can tell your bossman to shove it.

4. Raising minimum wage will drive costs higher for consumers who utilize services and products that operate on minimum wage employees. For example, say minimum wage is 5.15 an hour. McDonalds pays their employees this amount per hour. They've gotta cover this labor through sales throughout the day. If they've got 10 people working then they have to cover 51.50 per hour in labor. If minimum wage is increased to say 9 bucks an hour, now they have to cover 90 bucks an hour to keep the same workforce. Now how else to cover this increase than pass it on to the customer.

Understand these are ideas/possible answers from someone who works for everything they have. This answer won't be appreciated by someone who just got their 15 year pin at your local burger joint. Minimum wage is just that, the minimum. When you think minimum wage, you're supposed to think high school, or working your way through college or trade school. There's a reason why benefits suck at these jobs. They don't need to offer stock options and health insurance and stuff like that at minimum wage jobs, cause it'll cost the employer more. You can't ***** about shitty benefits when you're working a minimum wage job, you're supposed to use it to motivate you to better yourself. Lazy people looking for handouts can't grasp this.

What is "minimum wage against commission"?

Commission v. draw, wage v. draw, wage against draw, are all the same thing. What it means is that you are assured a floor wage (the minimum wage) but can go beyond it IF you sell more than the minimum wage wort of commissions. Example:

Minimum wage: $1/hour
Work Period: $80
Commission Rate: 10%

Say that you sell $700 of goods in the pay period. You would have only earned $70 of commissions. That being said, the comm v. draw assures you of a $80 paycheck. Now, say that you sell $900. You will be paid $90 (because you need to "cover" the minimum wage).

Why do Conservatives hate the Minimum Wage?

They are not on the side of the working class. I believe people who work for minimum wage are the working poor. I find it appalling and disgusting that so many cons want to cut wages for the poor. Yet, want to keep the Bust tax cuts for the super rich which will add 750 billion to our deficit for the top 2%. ❀

Most notably, McMahon said she believed Congress should consider lowering the federal minimum wage in times of economic distress for small businesses, such as the current recession.

Republican Minimum Wage Bill to Lower Wages in Seven States

What do you think about Michigan Republicans driving through a law making a mockery of minimum wages and the voter initiative effort?

In the news today, the Michigan Republicans in their Congress, voted to make the mandatory minimum wage level very low, and extend the increases out to 2030 at a rate that is less than projected inflation.Voters had petitioned to have an initiative on the ballot to raise the minimum wage to a higher number, but their Congress of Republicans voted prior to the election to pass a bill to raise it just like the referendum, so this made the referendum moot. Now that the election is over, the Republicans have trashed their own bill and passed one that is very anti-worker.Incredible.

If we lower the minimum wage, how can we lower the cost of living? How do Republicans suggest we do this or expect people to live making $10/hr?

In the US tinkering around with the minimum wage isn’t going to cut it. You are going to have to master a marketable skill and (probably) earn a credential if you expect to earn a living wage and raise a family. You don’t need some expensive, fancy college degree. You just need a marketable skill that is in demand.Dr. Kevin Fleming, “(RE)Defining the Goal: The True Path to Career Readiness in the 21st Century,” explains where some of the good jobs are:“The true ratio of jobs in our economy is 1:2:7. For every occupation that requires a master’s degree or more, two professional jobs require a university degree, and there are over a half a dozen jobs requiring a 1-year certificate or a 2-year degree, and each of these technicians is in very high-skilled areas in high demand.”Financial aid is available. Visit your local community colleges and find a marketable, technical certification that interests you. Hopefully you can pursue this full time. If your financial aid doesn’t allow that, do your best and go part time. Earn that certification and get a better job. Now layer that certification and get an Associate’s degree. Now you can get an even better job.I live two miles from a community college. One of my favorite programs there leads to an Associate’s Degree certifying graduates to install and maintain robots. The maximum cost to earn this degree would be $10,000 however some of the classes are free—government grants. The jobs are full time with benefits--$25/hour. There is one serious problem—very little interest. The class sizes run 3-4 students. There is a mechatronics program at Gateway Community and Technical College in Northern Kentucky. The technology is incredible. The state and local industries have invested millions. They have the capacity to train 200. They graduated 27 students last spring—no interest. Local industries are not happy. Another local school, Great Oaks Community College, has dropped their plumbing certification—no interest.NoteSeattle raised the minimum wage to $13/hour. Average monthly salaries dropped $125.
