Running away is not illegal in New Mexico. She will simply be returned to her parents when she is found. However, if she keeps running away then her parents can classify her as a delinquent and choose for her to go to juvy. You will find information under the Family Services Act below: CHAPTER 32A, ARTICLE 3A: FAMILY SERVICES ACT • Some families have children who create problems and need assistance. If the state can assist the family, and do so before minor things become serious offenses, much will be accomplished. Some of these offenses apply only to juveniles: truancy, curfew, running away. These are known as status offenses (because of their age, only a juvenile can commit them) and are not criminal offenses. KM
