Safest Way To Clean A Tri-color Gold Necklace

I have a 14k Italy necklace. What are the chances of it being real gold?

Gold comes in different purity grades defined in “karats”.Most common are 14k, 18k and 24k.Basically 1 karat tells you how many parts of gold out of 24 parts is in the alloy you have.24k mean 24/24 parts are gold - i.e. pure gold.14k means that only 14 parts out of 24 are gold and the rest is another metal. So 14k Italy means “14k Gold manufactured in Italy”. So yes it should be real gold (unless you have been conned). 14k is usually meant for the cheapest gold jewellery.Italy manufactures and sells Jewellery of all kinds, from 14k to the more expensive 24k.Not that 14k, 18k or 22k jewels of “White Gold” might be sometimes more expensive too, for example if gold is alloyed with platinum which is more expensive than gold as a metal (cheaper if the other metal is silver).

What does 925 stamped on gold mean?

“925” stamped on gold jewelry means that the item of jewelry has an underlying metal core of Sterling Silver. The “925” refers to the level of silver purity = 92.5% pure silver. The outer layer of jewelry is merely gold-plated. If you have an item of jewelry that appears gold on the outside but is stamped with “925” it is called gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may), which is the name used to describe silver jewelry coated in a thin outer layer of gold.If you want gold jewelry and not silver jewelry, then look for a gold hallmark:If you want silver jewelry and not gold jewelry then look for a silver hallmark, seen in the chart below. Here are some common types of silver jewelry:Hope this helps!

Safest way to clean a tri-color gold necklace?

I got a beautiful necklace from my boyfriend for my last birthday, and it's getting a kind of metallic smell that immediately makes me think of tarnished metal. I just need to know what the best way to clean it would be. It has a very thin white gold chain that feels delicate, and two hearts made of white gold with two small leaves (one is rose gold, the other is yellow gold). I just don't wanna break it and can't afford to take it to the jeweler.

Why don't people like yellow gold rings anymore?

It's a trend, Hon...yes, even in jewelry and metal preferences, there are trends....right now it's white gold....and not a very good quality either because jewelers are plating it in rhodium to hide the fact it's off color........

My engagement ring for my first marriage almost 35 years ago was white gold....the trend was yellow but I liked white on my skin tone ( I can also wear yellow) The white gold was top notch, a pale silvery-gray with a soft satin-y sheen, it set my 1 carat diamond pear off beautifully...no rhodium plating , no any kind of plating either-didn' t need it. And my ring NEVER turned yellow or any other color ....

When I sold it 22 years later (after the marriage ended) the white gold was still as beautiful as it had been when new.

I don't know WHAT the problem is with today's white gold. I won't buy it unless it's an estate piece or made before 1980.

Anyway my current bridal set is yellow gold...and I went with my heart's preference and my engagement ring has gemstones with diamonds as an accent only. We selected yellow gold because the quality of the white gold now adays is questionable, and since most of my good jewelry is either white gold (old) or sterling, I wanted my bridal rings to stand out....obviously I have no problems mixing metals.

Glad you found exactly what you wanted and didn't kow-tow to a trend you don't care for ( like I did the for the first marriage with a diamond when I secretly wanted an aquamarine-his birthstone)...good luck & congrats!

Edit: I just don't get people saying yellow gold isn't 'classy' or it's 'out dated'...that's trendy talk, not fact...opinions influenced by what is being pushed by the jewerly market today....nothing compares to the warm glow of yellow gold, or the soft silvery-gray sheen of platinum or good white gold, or the brilliant mirror brightness of sterling silver..it's all preferance, that's all.

How to Paint a Trifold?

Best solution is to go out and find one already colored blue. I know they make them. Call around to local art or office supply stored and ask if they have one in stock.

Here's the thing. There is virtually no way you can "paint" the entire surface without wrinkling or warping your board. They are made bt gluing a layer of white or colored paper over the plain cardboard. Any paint or markers you use will have a tendency to soak into the board. In any case, it won't leave a smooth, attractive surface.

With careful, practiced use of an airbrush and a thin cost of primer, before adding color MIGHT work. But doesn't that sound like a LOT more trouble than finding a new one?
