Sandwiches At Train Station/airport In Germany

Sandwiches at train station/airport in Germany?

I've been to Germany a couple times. And each time I get these sandwiches they sell at little vender stands at the Train Stations and Airport. I flew into Frankfort am Main, if it's localized.

They are on a white sub, amost the size of a hotdog bun. They have turkey, cucumber and a yogurt type spread.

Could anyone tell me what they are called? And what's the best way to make them at home in the United States?

I sure do miss them.

Is there a train station at Weeze, Germany Airport?

There is a train station at Weeze and shuttle bus SW1 operates from the airport to the train station. It departs hourly from 7am to 10pm (22:00) at minute 00 and arrives at minute 11.
Trains to Düsseldorf depart on workdays from 7am to 6pm (18:00) semi-hourly at minute 15 or 45 and take 67 minutes. From 7pm (19:00) to 10pm (22:00) and all day on weekends they depart hourly at minute 45.

A second train station is located at Kevelaer. Bus 073 departs from Weeze airport hourly at minute 25 and takes 18 minute to Kevelaer. Trains to Düsseldorf depart on workdays from 6am to 6pm (18:00) semi-hourly at minute 21 or 51 and take 61 minutes. From 7pm (19:00) to 10pm (22:00) and all day on weekends they depart hourly at minute 51.

Commuter train S-8 departs from Düsseldorf Hbf (platform 13) on workdays every 20 minutes at minute 10, 30, 50 from 4:30am to 7:30pm (19:30); thereafter and on weekends all day long every 30 minutes at 00 and 30. The travel to Hagen-Wehringhausen takes 65 minutes.

Alternately you can use a RegionalExpress train to Hagen Hbf (central train station) and travel back to Wehringhausen by S-8 towards Düsseldorf (1 minute journey). The RE trains pass Wehringhausen but they do not stop.

To get the connection details enter from "Weeze Flughafen" to "Hagen-Wehringhausen" here:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.e... ..

The entire trip is covered by one ticket of the VRR [Rhein-Ruhr transport association). You need a single ticket price level E which is €15.10. Tickets can be bought from the bus driver.

Alternately you could take a shuttle bus from the Weeze airport to Düsseldorf Hbf, journey time 75 minutes, fare €14.00. For the train from Düsseldorf Hbf to Hagen-Wehringhausen you would need to get a VRR ticket price level D for €12.00

Train Station in Frankfurt ,Germany Airport

I had to do this last summer. I had a tip from a German friend that ICE tickets are cheaper when you buy them in advance, so a friend and I bought it from the internet on the Deutsche Bahn website (www.bahn.de) . Any credit card will do. Then you have your ICE ticket ready to go, so you do not have to worry about bying it there.

From the airport, you will have to take the S Bahn to the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station). I believe it will be either the S8 or S9, but you should check that out. The thing I had the most problems with was to buy a ticket for the S-Bahn because I was not familiar with their transportation system.

In Germany, you buy tickets for trains, S Bahns, U Bahns, Trams... from vending machine at every station, and you pay according to where you are and where you want to go. The machine will ask for the number of the destination, Frankfurt is number 50.

You enter 50 and then select einzelfahrt for a one way trip. After paying the asked amount, you will get your ticket.

In the German public transportation, they do not systematically check the tickets (they do in linger distance trains I believe, but not really in S Bahns and even less so in U Bahns, Busses and Trams). However, if you get caught without a ticket, you will have to pay a 40 Euros fine.

In the S Bahn, they announce the next station, so when you hear: nächste hatlestelle, Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, you know it's time to get out.

At the station, there is a screen indicating on which gate your train will be. It indicates the direction and the ICE number. this will be available I believe 30-60 minutes before your departure.

I think that's all.

What does CALLING at such and such station mean when its displayed at train stations? For eg.?

First Great Western trains takes approx 20 Min's,

How do i get from Newark airport to Penn station in NYC?

THIS IS MY BEST CHEAPEST OPTION.

Airtrain Newark is only free within terminals only.
Amtrak is very expensive. It cost about $45 to $50.
Airtrain fee is included on New Jersey Transit Ticket Fare travel to New York Penn Station on Northeast Corridor & North Jersey Coast Line.
If you decide to take New Jersey Transit rail, don't purchase on board because if ticket vending machine is operating or window is open,, you must paid $5 surchage.

Best cheapest option is to go this way.
At Terminals A (Bus Courtyard, and C.
Make sure to get on New Jersey Transit #62 Bus toward "Newark" because "Perth Amboy" also circle arounds.
Since Newark Liberty International Airport and Newark Penn Station is within Fare Zone, you only paid $1.35 on it. (US Dollar bill accepted)
It's 22 minutes ride to last stop, Newark Penn Station.
If you plan to take subway, buy $10 or $20 MetroCard paid $.150 (March 2nd, $1.75) at Path Vending Machine.
Take World Trade Center train to Journal Square for 33rd St train across the platform. Do not take train via Hoboken because Journal Sq to 33rd St via Hoboken sit @ Hoboken about 5-minutes.
Once you get to 33rd St-6th Av, Penn Station is one block west.
See the links below before you go.
Enjoy the ride.

What airport is closest to Grand Central Station in NYC?

None of them is right near Grand Central. And all of them are pretty easy to get to from there. Well, perhaps Newark isn't as easy to get to, but there should be shuttle busses from that area to either Laguadia or JFK.

Laguardia is probably closer as the crow flies, but I'm not sure it matters.

I don't think it makes much difference which airport you fly out of. I prefer Laguadia just because it's smaller, but lots of people prefer JFK. See what gives you the best fare, I'd say.

How long does it take by train to get from NYC to Los Angeles? How long by bus?

Roughly 2 days, 12 hours in a ride from New York City to Los Angeles, California, according to a quick entry from Google Maps. You might want to include any times you get off to go in a hotel, get food, look around at the many stops along the way, so I’d guesstimate it’s a little higher. And by train, it’s a bit more obviously to get from point to point. There are less variations in the route that you can take as well so if you’re looking for a little bit of wandering and exploring around during your cross-country journey I’d take a bus. These are google map generated routes and likely are not 100% accurate. If you’re travelling soon, be safe, and have fun!
