How do I find out who credited money in my bank account?

If you see any suspicious transaction in your account, immediately contact the bank and get the details and discuss with the bank what further action if any can be taken. For example, sometimes bank itself makes a wrong debit or credit and while they discover and reverse them in most cases, they may occasionally miss. Once you alert them, they will act…During the demonetisation period, some money was credited to poor people’s accounts in an attempt to get around the regulatory vigilance…Some debits took place because people gave their ATM card details to strangers innocently or were stolen…

What is the maximum amount of money that a bank account can hold?

Typically, a bank will not turn away deposits so essentially the sky is the limit in terms of holding money. Dan Ogden is right: there is a $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per account type i.e. checking, savings, money market accounts. Here is a link to the FDIC website on this. Many banks now have ways of circumventing the insurance cap. For instance, the CDARS service allows you to work with one custodian bank that will spread a large deposit out to multiple other banks thereby allowing you to retain your FDIC insurance on all of your deposit and not just $250,000 worth. Here is the link to CDARS (Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Service). It is not a difficult service to get.

The food stamp office wants my bank account numbers?

No, it is the government and it is not illegal for them ask for your social security or bank numbers. They are trying to set up an automatic deposit into your bank. They also want to check your bank account to see if you qualify and aren't cheating.

You canceled the account when you failed to provide them with the information that they wanted so actually they canceled the account for you and put the blame on you.

The best thing to do is to go to the Food Stamp Office and ask for a clarification, tell them that you didn't know what they wanted your numbers for and you were worried about identity theft. That is an understandable concern and they should be able to return your benefits to you without having you reapply for them.

I don't know if this is effecting you in other ways but it could effect your Social Security Payments so you need to get this cleared up quickly.

Go to the Internet and search for your Food Stamp Office phone number and call them, they are separate from SSI and don't communicate well with each other. (try here: http://www.fns.usda.gov/fsp/outreach/map...

Does the bank flag my checking account for the IRS if I receive a large check (around $10,000)? Does the bank flag large deposits between individuals? Would receiving 2 checks of $5,000 mitigate this problem?

DO NOT break up the payment into multiple deposits. This is called “structuring”, and it is illegal even if you are not doing anything else illegal. Seriously. A former speaker of the house of Representatives went to federal prison for this, even though he was not convicted of any other crime.A single deposit of $10,000 is not suspicious. Deposits of that size happen all the time for all kinds of innocent reasons. And even if it were, it would not be reported by the bank. The bank only must report cash transactions or suspicious patterns. When considering whether transactions are suspicious, they tend to err on the side of staying out of their customers’ business. They will say: “Are we required to report this? No? Okay then.”So lets say they did report it to FinCen. The authorities would put it in the archive and forget about it. They have better things to investigate than kids getting checks from their parents. But let’s suppose that it was “red flagged”. FinCen would request information from all your bank accounts, and discover that you are probably not an international criminal money-laundering operation. The IRS would see that the deposit came from a family member, who paid taxes on it.But lets say you were audited. Contrary to myth, an audit is often not a big deal. You send the IRS copies of everything, and give them an explanation for why your $10k deposit was not reportable. That’s the end of it. A small hassle, but you don’t avoid it by illegal structuring.

A deposit in my bank account from "ACH Deposit - SSA TREAS 310 XXSOC SEC?"?

I tried looking it up, and every place I go to says it's for disability. I used to get Social Security, but it stopped once I graduated highschool. I do have mental diabilities that would apply, but did not apply for any disability, or social security.
Could it be a mistake?

Social Security sent my SSI check to the wrong bank account.?

No. It's YOUR responsibility to make sure they have the correct account information.

You have to contact the bank and see if they will help. You can go to your bank and they may get the information for you to contact the owner of the account, but they are not required to, and they may have privacy policies that prevent them from giving you the information. In that case, unless the owner of the account tells the bank of the mistake, and returns the money, they get to keep it. It's not stealing, because YOU had the money deposited.

If you don't get the account holder's info, better hope the account holder has a conscience, because you're out the money otherwise. If you get the account holder's info, and they don't return it, you can sue for the money, and likely win.

I am trying to find out the status of my backpay and need the number to the payment processing center. I think it is done regionally and I am in ohio someone told me the center would be in maryland? Not sure. If anyone could help it would be GREAAT!!

Can you deposit someone's social security check into their account for them?

Yes - as long as it's signed and has an account number that matches the one on file at the bank, it can be deposited by someone other than the account owner. The one thing you cannot do is make a withdrawal (unless it was a joint account or a parent taking care of a minor's account).
