Satin Evening Dresses Is Good Do You Like The Material

How can I repair a snag in my satin wedding dress?!?

It is almost impossible to completely repair a snag in satin. You can gently pull the area adjacent to the snag on the bias and, if you are lucky, the snag will blend in better. Steaming the area with an iron hovering over the area after this can also help. Do not put the iron directly on the satin and be sure the iron will not drip.

Although I'm sure this snag is very obvious to you, most people will not notice it and it is unlikely to show in the photos. Good luck!

Is satin or velvet better for formal attire?

I just want to make a correction first. Satin is a type of weave, not a fabric.Satin is a weave that typically has a glossy surface and a dull back. (wikipedia)The most common fabric and satin weave combination for formal wear is polyester satin and silk satin, although there are other combinations out there.Between polyester or silk with satin weave and velvet, any of the three fabrics would be good for a formal attire. A silk satin would be better for dresses and tops although as someone had already pointed out, it could be unforgiving if it’s cut too close to the body. If you still want to use that fabric, just make sure the style has a loose drape.**Not affiliated with any of the websites mentioned.**Unforgiving to those with less than trim bodies. image from mtcostello.comA loose drape, built in corset, or even ruching can hide a multitude of sins. image from ohdresses.comVelvet is also good but it can get warm, especially for a dress. I wouldn’t recommend it for an outside event. For men, they can have a velvet suit. Black is traditional but if you’re going for velvet, go for color like these guys below.Image from mokshaaworld.comEddie Redmayne is rocking his velvet suit. credit to the photographer

Is a tea length bridesmaid dress appropriate for a formal wedding?

If it is a black tie only affair then I think that the floor length gowns are a more appropriate attire...but I've seen lots of bridesmaids in tea length dresses for formal weddings.

Which kind of fabric of dresses do you like most, the lighter chiffon, the light satin or the elegant taffeta?

Both of the mentioned dresses look great. But in my opinion that may be a bit difficult choice to come up with being that there are different dresses for different times.Nevertheless, I like chiffon gowns on ladies that rock them absolutely stunning. But, on the other hands, a lady can easily spoil the whole looks with chiffon. All it takes is just a slight boomer.

Have you ever worn formal gloves?

As a child, I was sent to "Charm School", and there was a whole course on how to wear, and care for, formal gloves. For daytime, we were taught to wear short, white, cotton gloves, which all proper women wore, at least until the late sixties (no, I'm not that old, but we were taught the formal manners anyway), and for the evening, the choices were broader. There are formal wrist length, elbow length, and the very long ones are called "Opera" length (like very long pearls are called "Opera" length as well). These days, most formal gloves are in satin. I have them in many colors and lengths, fingerless and with fingers...in velvet, satin, cotton blends and my favorite I wear even with casual clothes...these are 80% silk/20% cashmere, fingerless, and besides being SO soft, they're very warm, so I can wear them with summery clothes in the winter and still be warm enough in chilly class rooms.

Long, black, satin gloves (opera length) look best with spaghetti straps, halter or strapless looks. The more sleeve you have, the shorter the gloves should be.
