How can I recover a video from my SD card?

Hi,Problem with recovery (photo, video) from memory cards is file fragmentation:File system is either FAT32 or exFAT. This means ‘normal’ undelete and file recovery tools can not get the entire file when it’s fragmented. This is not because the software is bad, it’s a limitation of FAT where the chain of clusters in the file allocation table is ‘reset’ when a file is deleted or a card is formatted.Almost all specialized photo/video recovery software is header/footer carving based. This means they detect the start of a file (using magic bytes or file signature) and the end. Everything in between is copied to a new file. This is okay for contiguous files, but not for fragmented files. As a result, recovered files that were fragmented are simply missing data. This missing data can not be brought back by video repair software. Our telemetry shows that 79% of all video files on memory cards is fragmented! Note that this is a mix of cards from cameras, smart phones, action cams (GoPro etc.) and dash cams. So, a better idea is to recover the files again with software that can cope with fragmented files.JPEG Recovery LAB is one out of 3 tools that I know of that can recover, reconstruct fragmented photo and video files. The process is however very CPU and memory intensive so you’ll need powerful PC. More cores is better. 2 GB RAM per core, 8 GB minimum. You need to run JPEG Recovery LAB on the original card. It will not repair the files already (incorrectly) recovered by other software!

Is it possible to recover a deleted video from a micro SD card?

Yes, however fragmentation is an issue:With FAT based file systems (FAT32, exFAT) as typically used on memory cards, there is no way to use file system meta data to determine what clusters belonged to a file after the file was deleted or the card formatted. This is due to way FAT works: The file allocation tables is zeroed in such scenarios. And these are the only structures in the FAT based file systems that keep track of the exact clusters allocated to a file. And it is typically video files that become fragmented rather easily: Size of the file is unknown in advance so it is impossible to ‘claim’ an area of consecutive clusters in advance. And also the camera may store several streams sort of at the same time. Most file recovery and undelete software either relies on file system meta data. So, these will be unable to recover fragmented files.Specialized photo and video recovery software are often carvers. They typically detect the start of a file and then may employ different methods to determine the end of a file. The latter is problematic with fragmented files.JPEG Recovery LAB, available from my website tries to solve these problems by using several techniques which can be summarized by ‘advanced carving’. For example it will try to validate if a file is complete. If not, it will scan the media for potential complementing fragments and test different combination until it has recreated a playable file. Drawback of the method is that has to ‘know’ a file type. So it works only for a limited number of file types.A second disadvantage is that it needs a lot of resources (RAM, CPU) and time.Good luck!Joep

Can I recover data from a corrupt micro SD card?

A while ago I inserted my micro SD card into my computer in order to transfer over some pictures but my computer didn't read the card. Because of this, I pulled my card out without properly ejecting it and when I inserted back into the computer, I was told that the SD card had become corrupt and so now I am not able to access any of the data.
Is there any way I can recover the pictures, videos, and music from my corrupt micro SD card?
I've researched this, and I have seen programs that people use to recover data.
What program would work best for me in this situation? (If any.)
