I recently became self-employed in Hong Kong, how do I get a mortgage for my house?

I speak from my experience, and the answer is slim chances. This unless you really make serious money, really really serious by HK standards - which is a lot of money! But then you can probably go for cash option.I used to have a company with a partner and we were doing quite well. I mean about being able to fork out over 30K HK$ for house rent back in the ‘90s. Now it would be 80/90K HK$ p.m. or even more. Business was doing well too, and yet no mortgage that we could get.A secretary with an 8K monthly salary had more chances than us!

Landlord considered self employment?

Is being a landlord considered being self employed for SSD? I have a rental that I collect rent each month but am not actively working on the house and if there are repairs then I call a handy man. Does that mean I am self employed and need to check the box?

Money for employing people to paint your house?

Flat rate, definitely. Tell them the sq. footage of your house (or the room that you need painted) and asak them for a flat rate. I would try to negotiate if they are self-employed and not through an agency.

I just paid $350 to have my great room done, vaulted ceilings. It only took him 4 hours to do :( Don't let them take advantage of you!

Can DHS / Section 8 housing find out you have income if your self employed / independant contractor ?

There are many variables and possibilities in your question.

First of all, by becoming an individual contractor and not reporting this new income to the Section 8 department would be fraud. You signed a document stating the amount you earned in order to qualify for section 8 benefits. You signed this document and a clause in this document indicated you could perjury yourself by not listing all income you would earn.

Once paid are you gonna report this as income on your federal income taxes at the end of the tax year? I f so the section 8 department have a document you signed, indicating they could check your financial situation at anytime they so desire as long as you are qualified for section 8 benefits..

If for some reason you have a review of your eligible, this might be found out.

If found out you could be convicted of fraud, be required to refund all monies you obtained illegally from the section 8 benefits you would no longer be qualified for. There is a possibility you could spend some time in jail for this fraud.

This is a risk you would have to consider.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.
