Sentence With Perpetuating

What does perpetuate mean? use it in a sentence. ur own words. i cant understand these websites definitions?

To cause to happen again. It implies that the thing will happen forever but doesn't have to mean that.

I can say, for example, "You perpetuated my idea." That would just mean you copied me or used my idea to make a point.

As another example, "You perpetuated anarchy." That would mean you spread the idea of anarchy that others may or may not have then spread.

How do I use perpetuate in this sentence?

“the sun and the moon have to maintain a strong relationship in order for everything to (perpetuate)

Would it just be perpetuate there or would it be “for everything to be perpetuated”
thanks for any help

What does Perpetuating Mean?

'Perpetuating' in that context means, "continuing". The speaker (I don't know who the speaker is) is saying that they fault the media, for continuing to influence their readers/watchers/listeners with information that leads to these grandiose dreams.

How do I use the word perpetuate in a sentence?

Perpetuate is a verb that means 'to continue'.You could say that the two words are synonyms. However, to  perpetuate and to continue are not per se interchangeble. To perpetuate is mostly used in a formal context.E.g: you could say something like 'I want to continue my studies'. 'I would like to perpetuate my studies has the same meaning, but could not be used in an informal way.

What does "perpetuate" mean?

I'm doing my first year of AS English Language and in Gender theories there's a sentence that says "...which perpetuates the gender boundaries...". I looked up the word and it says it means "to make something last", but the source related to the quote breaks the rules of gender theory, so does perpetuate also mean something like this? (like, go beyond, or break through, or something?)

So, can it mean the above? (if not, what DOES it mean?)

Why can't jail sentences deter some people from committing crimes?

Have you ever heard of “flaying alive”?This isn’t for the squeamish. For certain crimes, the accused were literally skinned alive. They were tied to a post or plank and a torturer would begin to remove the skin from their bodies. Generally this was done in such a way so as to keep the victim alive as long as possible. The suffering could last days. And yet… there was still crime. There were still rebels who opposed those in power. This horrific torture didn’t stop anything! How is that possible? Well… There are plenty of people who just don’t think about consequences. If flaying or any of the other tortures couldn’t stop someone from stealing or whatever… jail sure as hell isn’t going to do it.Jail (and flaying for that matter) are like the locks on your doors. They just keep honest people honest. An individual who is hell bent on crime will break the lock and not even recognize the possibility of jail.
