Service 4wd Light Started Coming On Sometimes But 4wd Still Worked.

Is my Fuel filter bad? service light came on?

I know that you are trying to start with the cheapest stuff but, the problem is probably NOT the fuel filter (filters plugging up is just not an issue with vehicles today) Yours is probably going to need a fuel pump assembly The fuel injection system on this vehicle HAS to have 60 PSI fuel pressure or you will have all kinds of drivability issues! And to answer your question, Yes, a restricted fuel filter WILL turn on the MIL (check engine light) in this vehicle if it is driven long enough and will set system lean codes P0171 and P0174!

NOTE: Take the vehicle by the auto parts store to have them retrieve the codes (write them down on paper) and then update your findings!

How do you reset the maintenance light on a Toyota after an oil change?

That depends on the year and model of Toyota. You should check your owners manual to be sure what it takes to reset the oil light. However a majority of Toyota oil lights can be reset with a simple procedure.Set your trip reader on your dash to either odometer, Trip A, or Trip B. Which one depends on the year, make and model of your particular car. I’d start by trying it with the odometer reading first then the others depending on which one works for you.Start by turning your ignition key off. Then press and hold the Trip reset button on your dash. While holding the trip reset, turn your ignition to run without starting your car.If you started with the odometer display in the right position(odometer, Trip A, or Trip B) you will see some lines on the odometer reading instead of numbers when they disappear for a second and then start flashing the oil light has been reset. You can now let go of the trip reset button and turn off your car.It does take a little bit to reset. If you don’t see anything flashing after 10 seconds try starting with your odometer display in either Trip A or Trip B and go again with the ignition switch off and turning it to run while holding the trip reset button. It’s actually kind of hard to do the first time you try it. However once you figure it out it’s very simple.

What is wrong with my speedometer in my car?

it could be a blown fuse. that happened in my car. it happens a lot when you add anything electrical to the car like an alarm.

Just bought 99 tahoe 4x4. what's the right way to engage 4wd?

I had a 1999 Yukon with the same light issue. The buttons still worked, but the indicator lights weren't really reliable. You can go from 2 to 4 wheel drive at normal driving speeds. If I can recall, I think the manual stated something like 75 MPH is the maximum speed you can do that at. You can also go directly from 2WD to 4LOW as long as you are in neutral and not in Park, Drive or Reverse. Sometimes it helps if you are VERY slightly creeping when you shift from High to Low and Low to High, it makes everything come together a little more smoothly. When you want to make it go into 4WD or 2WD and the lights aren't on, just push the button a few more times or push a little bit harder, it should work. Good Luck!

Why is my car shaking and the check engine light flashing?

A shaking vehicle AND flashing MIL ("check engine light") sound like the vehicle is misfiring on at least one cylinder. As @Anna Nguyen, @Brendan Sinclair, @Antoun Nabhan and others have said, it could be an ignition related problem. It could also be fuel-related. If one or more fuel injectors are clogged or dead, that would also cause a misfire in the affected cylinder(s). These are relatively cheap/easy things to check and fix.Other causes (which could be more complicated and more expensive) to fix include contaminated fuel, a bent intake or exhaust valve, a broken valve spring, a damaged piston/connecting rod, and on and on.I recommend getting a scan tool and checking the codes which are causing the MIL to light/flash and I also strongly recommend NOT driving the vehicle until the problem is fixed. If you continue to drive the vehicle as is, you will exacerbate the problem. Dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust due to a misfire will overheat and kill your catalytic converter. A more serious problem like a bent valve can eventually cause you to crater your engine (i.e.: completely destroy the engine).

What is better for driving in snow, AWD or front wheel drive with snow tires?

I grew up and learned to drive in Erie, Pennsylvania, which during my driving time there (about 8 years) in the 60s and 70s had terrible weather: lots of snow, ice, slush etc. From 1981 through 2004, I worked for the National Park Service in the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, which also received terrible winter weather. The roads had lots of curves, steep ascents and descents, and wet snow and ice. I was involved in emergency response and a number of car chases during my law enforcement work. My personal and NPS pursuit vehicles included ones with rear wheel drive, front wheel drive, 4 wheel drive, and AWD. At times, they had summer tires, and often high quality snow tires on all 4 wheels. I had done some racing while growing up, was good at driving, and could “feel”how the vehicles were responding. I have owned and driven vehicles such as VW beetles, 911 Porsche, Subaru AWDs, 4 wheel drive trucks, rear wheel drive Volvo, FWD Toyotas, and RWD pursuit Ford and Chevy police cars. I also did a lot of reading on the subject of vehicles, racing, and tires. In my opinion, quality snow tires are the most important factor. Even the best AWD is at a disadvantage with summer tires. People often get in trouble when they have summer or all season tires on a snowy or icy road, and think that their AWD/4WD is invincible. I've seen my wife return from work at 10 PM on a packed snow covered road, on a very steep incline, in our RWD limited slip Volvo, and pass a group of stuck FWD, AWD, and 4 WD vehicles with all season tires, while she had quality snow tires on all 4 wheels. Now I drive a 4X4 pickup and AWD Subaru, and have great winter tires all around in snow. THAT is my answer.

Does having a 4WD or AWD car/truck help you stop in snowy and icy conditions?

This might come as a shock, but ALL cars have four-wheel braking. And if you have 4WD/AWD, you probably have an SUV, so you’re bringing the greater weight of the vehicle to a stop. If you don’t take this into account in snowy/icy conditions (e.g. by keeping extra distance to the vehicle in front of you), you WILL end up parked in someone else’s car boot.Every year it’s the same. The first light dusting of snow and people skid out into the middle of crossings, into one another, off the road, and then “But… but… but… (cue quivering lower lip)… I have 4WD!” Yeah. Congratulations. You still drive like a twat.

2005 GMC Yukon 4x4 not working?

It started last year with the light on the 4x4 switch stuck sometimes on Hi other times it was normal. Now there is no indicator light on on the switch. The service 4wd light is on and the 4x4 doesn't work. I did a little bit of research and noticed this was common in the earlier years on the yukon and was easily fixed by replacing the switch but GM improved the switch on the newer Yukon's so that may not be the case on mine if anyone has experienced this in the past and has a solution please let me know. It sounds like GM should have had a recall on this and they didn't
