Severe Lower Back Pain Getting Progressively Worse

Sciatica pain progressively worse throughout the day..?

I've been struggling with my lower back/sciatica pain for about three months now. I'm 21 and am a pretty advanced weight lifter. It all started with a severe episode of sciatica down my right leg about three months ago. It was immobilizing and the most painful thing I have ever experienced. The doctors took xrays and said there was nothing structurally wrong with my back (no bulging discs or anything) other than some "mild scoliosis". The diagnosed it as a lower back muscle spasms. I was given muscle relaxants and some physical therapy exercises to do at home. It took the pills and did the exercises and it seemed to go away for the most part.

When I came back from school I started working at my job which requires me to stand for 4-8 hours at a time. I work out in the morning and this seems to help the pain throughout the first part of the day, but towards the end of the day it gets very bad and it becomes very hard to stand. So basically it seems like the pain resets after I sleep at night and then gets agitated by standing for so long. Also, when my right leg starts to hurt during my day I start leaning on my left leg, but then the sciatic pain shifts to that leg eventually too which has never happened before.

I am scheduling a doctors appointment tomorrow, but I'd like to see if anyone has any opinions on what could be wrong with me. I'm getting very frustrated and don't feel like I can take much more...

Severe back pain for 2 weeks?

my lower back has hurt all across the bottom for the past two weeks and i'd say it is progressively getting worse. I've tried heating pads a few times, and it helps temporarily but not really. I can't stand straight cause it hurts too much, and i have to hunch over when I sit in a chair. ANY idea what could be wrong? I would go to a doctor, but my parents see me as a hypochondriac, and try not to rush me to the doctor everytime something hurts. I don't really blame them I hate the doctor and he always says there is nothing wrong with me. Herniated disk ? torn muscle? please help thanks

Does back pain mean that my back could be slowly getting progressively more damaged?

Hi Liana,It doesn’t mean that per se. It could mean that, however. It all depends.Have you had your back diagnosed by a medical doctor / specialist? Without knowing more about your issue it’s impossible to say and give proper advice. If you don’t fix the cause of your back pain though, there is a good chance that it will get progressively worse. I wouldn’t say damaged per se, that would be assuming there is damage already. In any case have your problem looked at and work on fixing the cause. This is tricky as most medical doctors and specialist still take a symptomatic approach: they try to manage your symptoms (with drugs, surgery and other means) but often the real underlying cause is not resolved. So the pain comes back, perhaps in another body part. The body is a unit and should be treated like one. This means that a holistic solution (taking into account the whole body, and perhaps even other aspects of your life) should be considered.A good chiropractor will look at it like that. Of course a good specialist, physiotherapist, etc. will too but unfortunately many still look at the symtoms.I practice a holistic method of non-medical pain relief using postural correction. Tens of thousands of people have been helped get rid of their back pain (and other pain) in the past 40 years or so since Pete Egoscue invented the method. Will severe sciatica pain ever go away?

Last Sunday, the 23rd, my mom was working in the garden weeding for about 4 hours. Her back was a bit stiff after, and it kept getting worse. Right before she went to bed, she was having a difficult time walking. It was her lower back/right hip area. Through the night, she was in so much pain and couldn't sleep or walk that she had my dad take her to the Urgent Care. They diagnosed it as sciatic nerve pain and gave her medications to reduce inflammation, ease pain, and relax her muscles.

She went to a chiropractor but after looking at her x-ray he was she had too much inflammation for him to do anything, and sent her to the doctor for a cortisone shot. Her knee has been numb, and the numbness had started to spread down her leg. The doctor who gave her the cortisone shot also recommended that she get an MRI, which she has scheduled for Wednesday. afternoon.

Her pain has not improved - it's tolerable with the medication but she hates how "in a fog" she is while on the medication. She can walk for short periods with a cane while hunched over, but that's it. Once the medication starts to wear off, she is in extreme pain.

It's very hard to see her like this, and she is also getting very tired of not being able to walk/being in so much pain. She isn't old; she's 50. Every night after she goes to bed I sit down and cry - seeing her this way is so emotionally tough. I hate seeing her this way, and with it having been nearly a week, I worry that it's going to be like this for her from now on. Is there anyone with sciatica who has experienced pain this extreme and this long? Does it go away?

Lower back Pain and Left Leg pain?

I have had lower back pain that also makes the whole back on my left leg right down to my foot very sore. Have been to docs and had blood tests which are all clear but have been told a referral to Orthopedics will be arranged but could take weeks. It is worse when i lay down at night and I often get pins and needles in my left foot and leg and my leg constantly aches. I cannot stand up for too long and tend to drag my leg when walking. Sometimes I get electric shock feelings through my left leg and it is always painful. It started off as a sore lower back but as the weeks have gone on my leg is hurting at times worse than my back-it is really affecting my walking and esp when i am in bed i feel like i am in agony. My leg and foot always feel like they are week and i can't stand still for too long but also cannot be on my feet for too long- should i go to the ER???

Severe pain and stiffness in neck/upper back. How to diagnose properly and home treatments.?

Whilst doing skull crushers I must've pulled something in my upper back. The pain was bearable for about 24 hours, after that it was progressively getting worse. Now, about 40 hours later, it's unmanageable. It's like a really stiff neck that extends to my upper back. If I move any part of my upper body (even the other shoulder) there's a sharp pain. To sit up in bed I have to hold my neck or my head feels like it's falling off. Lying down in bed also requires slow movement and head support. Any advice would be appreciated.

Why does pneumonia cause lower back pain?

Look at this picture. It is the nervous system (not an accurate one, but for illustration, it is a good one). This is the posterior ( back) view. This is an Xray picture of pneumoniaThis is an illustration of PneumoniaThe localisation of pneumonia is gravity-dependent, with that being said, it is usually located at the bottom lobe. (fluid is heavier than air). The lung tissue does not have pain receptors, therefore the pain does not origin from the lung. The pain is cause by the irritation of the pleura ( a sac covering/enveloping the lung). The pleura is very sensitive and during pneumonia, the inflammatory process of pneumonia will irritate the pleura membrane. These causes pain such as chest pain, back pain and even in some cases shoulder pain.

38 weeks pregnant and having abnormal stabbing pain in lower right abdomen, HELP?

It sounds like feeling some pressure on your perineum. I had the same thing and when I talked to my midwife she said it's totally normal and asked if I'd been doing perineal massage (which I hadn't). She said it really helps with that so I started it and boy was she right! It's also supposed to make birth much easier which I think is true because I only did it for my 2nd and 3rd deliveries and they were much easier than the 1st. Some websites say you should start it at week 34 but my midwife said it's never too early (or too late) to start. She even said there is a big push for more women to start doing it but not all doctors have been trained yet. Anyway, here are some websites that tell you how to do it in case you don't know:

Hope that helps! Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. I've been through this 3 times!

Lower back pain, leg pain, blood in stool?

About three weeks ago I started having lower back pain. It got progressively worse and when I saw my doctor, she said it was probably just a strained muscle. She did an x-ray, which came back normal, and prescribed me a muscle relaxer and pain medication. Neither medicine helped at all. Then I started getting shooting pain down the outside of my right leg. It doesn't hurt too bad to stand, but when I sit my leg starts to hurt and feels tingly. I went back to my doctor who gave me lortab and a new painkiller. The new painkiller does not help and the lortab just makes me pass out so I'm not really sure if it is helping the pain or not. Now, every time I go to the bathroom, there is bright red blood on the toilet paper and in the toilet when I poo. It also hurts my back to go to the bathroom. The leg pain is not as bad now, but my back is still hurting. It's my lower back, right in the middle near my spine and then to the right of it. I have an mri scheduled but it's not until next week. The blood in my stool is something new and I'm not sure if it is related to what is going on with my back but I'm scared! Was wondering if anyone else has had problems similar to this?
