Sharp Rise In Blood Pressure And Fear After Smoking Cigarette

What happens to your body when you quit smoking cigarettes?

Ah, just the question I was looking to answer. I tried to go cold-turkey on Monday, broke down by Wednesday and chain smoked a pack, and well, today is Thursday and I am beginning the whole cold-turkey thing again. I should say I have been smoking for about 7 years now. Its been 3 hours since my last cigarette, and I'm not feeling particularly cheery right now. There is a very definite sense of despair, and I have to make a conscious effort to stay awake. Over the course of the next two days, this sense of despair will grow only stronger. Yeah sure, I ll be able to smell things again, and my nasal passage would start to clear, but really, I would rather just have a cigarette right now. I'll definitely start sleeping more, because I would feel tired easily. Oh yeah, I would start putting on weight if I am not watching what I eat. Which is bloody idiotic because quitting smoking will increase my craving for food. I can't have too much caffeine because it will make me jittery, and if I pop a modafinil or a similar nootropic then I would become a robotic work-horse. I'll keep working-out regularly, and by a week I ll note a very definite increase in my stamina. I will most definitely get a sore throat, because my body will start to get rid of the gunk lodged in my lungs. That really does sound awesome, but really, I would rather just have a cigarette right now. By the end of the second week, the excessive cravings would start to peter out a bit. I still would feel immensely horrid, but hey, whats a depression when you re getting cleaner lungs in exchange, right ? On second thought, I would just rather light a cigarette right now. Tip 1: Get an exercise schedule in place. All that extra oxygen going to you head will definitely life your mood. Tip 2: Pick up something else that relaxes you, something like meditation or yoga. I personally think a dip in a swimming pool works wonders

Sudden increase in blood pressure after smoking?

My age is 25.
I am suffering from sudden increase in blood pressure when ever i smoke a cigarette. I don't smoke regularly. I smoked a cigarette few days ago and that too after 5 months without smoking, after 30 minutes i started suffering from fear, panic attacks, high blood pressure, anxiety and difficultly in breathing. Even though i am on hypertension medication but still my blood pressure remain between 140/100 to 160/110.
And if i smoke a cigarette it shoots up to 180/120 or even higher.
I only feel the high blood pressure after smoking. Without smoking cigarette i don't feel the blood pressure but when ever i get it checked it turns out to be between 140/100 and 160/110.

So my question is what's causing increase in blood pressure?
And when i smoke why do i feel feared, anxiety and panic attacks with hypertension? And without smoking i do have high blood pressure but don't feel it??

Kindly reply! thanks!!

My blood pressure is 143 over 108?

Go to the doctor's office and check your blood pressure. Your diastolic blood pressure (108 mmHg) is high (stage 2). Stop smoking cigarette completely and drink alcohol moderately.
Left ventricular hypertrophy develops in response to some factor, such as high blood pressure, that requires the left ventricle to work harder. As the workload increases, the walls of the chamber grow thicker, lose elasticity and eventually may fail to pump with as much force as a healthy heart.
Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is more common in people who have high blood pressure or other heart problems.

Why does smoking cigarettes help with my anxiety?

Cigarettes contain nicotine.  Nicotine is an addictive but effective calming agent on the brain.  So smoking literally tranquilizes you while you’re using.  To make it even worse those nice folks at the tobacco companies add other chemicals to make nicotine both more effective as a mind-altering substance and also more addictive.  That explains why nicotine patches are not highly effective in helping people quit smoking, they replace the nicotine but not the other chemicals.  However, there are less scary parts of the equation.  Handling and orally manipulating the cigarette gives you a set of focusses to take your mind off anxiety stimulating stimuli.  It takes your mind off the situation.I would suggest (and this is just a suggestion) that you find a better form of tranquilization.  My grandfather smoked from the time he was seven (his older brothers thought it was cute to see a seven year old puffing away) and he ended up tied to an oxygen generator, died of a heart attack brought on by a lack of oxygen to the heart.  Currently, my best friend was a chain-smoker.  He didn’t stop—though he tried—until he spent three years in a nursing home, now he’s tied by a fifty foot hose to an oxygen generator.  The town where we live is subject to occasional power black-outs.  When one of those happens he has three hours of battery power on his walk-around unit to get to a site that has both an oxygen system and a power generator.  Also since he has COPD-4, a needed surgery can’t be performed.  This is not a stop smoking or else paragraph, but be aware of the risks.Hope this helpsJeff

I notice that after i smoke my cigarette i feel my heart beating faster and sometimes i am out of breath.?

The problem is the cigarettes. You need to stop smoking. Smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict, meaning less oxygen to the heart , brain, etc. Which means more risk of coronary disease and blood clots which cause stroke and pulminary embolisms, etc. Look at the short term and long term benefits of quitting:

20 Minutes After Quitting
Your heart rate drops.

12 hours After Quitting
Carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.

2 Weeks to 3 Months After Quitting
Your heart attack risk begins to drop.
Your lung function begins to improve.

1 to 9 Months After Quitting
Your Coughing and shortness of breath decrease.

1 Year After Quitting
Your added risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker's.

5 Years After Quitting
Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker's 5-15 years after quitting.

10 Years After Quitting
Your lung cancer death rate is about half that of a smoker's.
Your risk of cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases.

15 Years After Quitting
Your risk of coronary heart disease is back to that of a nonsmoker's.

How does smoking cigarettes affect a unborn child?

It didn't harm mine at all.
My Dr. told me not to quit. Quitting causes stress and will harm the
baby. So I cut back to 5-7 a day. The result. 3 pregnancies, 3 big
and healthy babies. Between 8.11 lbs and 7.9 lbs. All because I listened to my Dr. His advice benefited my children.
Friends of ours, who don't smoke, have had a miscarriage, and one child with asthma.
It's all about genetics.

How can smoking weed cause headaches?

I attribute most reported marijuana headaches to the act of smoking. Smoking introduces an abundance of carcinogenic combustion byproducts into your lungs and effects your overall cardiovascular system. The resulting cough alone can result in headaches. See if vaping cures your headaches.
