Shoplifting Charge After 5 Years

How does an individual with a 10-year-old minor shoplifting charge overcome the stigma during a background check for a new job?

Did the charge result in a conviction? Have you committed any other criminal offenses since then? The answers to those questions will determine whether the shoplifting offense should have any impact at all on you getting hired! When employers use background checks and criminal history to determine employment, they are bound by certain rules. These guidelines include only considering offenses that resulted in a conviction, have occurred during the past 7 to 10 years, and are relevant to the job. However, there are certain industries where any conviction, even those over 10 years ago, will keep you from getting hired. These include things like jobs in banking or with the government. As long as you are not apply for these, your “minor” shoplifting offense should not matter in your search for a new job. Good luck!

I had a shoplifting charge dropped 3 years ago through a diversion program, am I ineligible to join the military?

The answers here are spot on. Just two things to add:I can’t stress how important it is to list it on your paperwork. The recruiter will have to get disposition paperwork from the county court, or you should have the paperwork yourself. If you enlist and you or the recruiter (or both) neglect to disclose that info, you could be discharged (depending on the amount) or if you have a security clearance investigation, that could be denied changing your job or discharging you.No matter what ANYONE tells you, the government can see the charge. It doesn’t matter if it was sealed, expunged, hocus-pocused away. If you have a conviction, it’s there.

Can i become a foster parent if i have a shoplifting charge from 3 years ago?

Depends if it was a misdemeanor or felony charge. It is also regulated by the federal government in conjunction with your state. I have attached below the governmental regulation on foster parent laws. Also, you will need to see the US Dept of Health and Human Services site for laws and regulations.

Will Chase hire if shoplifting charge dismissed?

Cases are NOT dismissed after you pay a fine. A fine is the punishment for doing the crime. If you were punished, either fined, jailed, received probation, had to pay restitution or do community service or whatever other punishment, you were CONVICTED of the crime and you will always be guilty.

I highly doubt that Chase would hire anyone such as yourself, unless every applicant (bad area) has a criminal past and they have to choose the best of the worst.

Restitution vs. criminal charges for shoplifting?

And if she does not pay then?? your daughter stole, that makes her a thief. Seems as if the store is giving her a break by having her pay restitution. She has no option in this, she either pays up and acknowledges what she has done or the store can charge her with common theft.I can see you are being defensive of her but the plain truth is that she stole, she went into the store and committed theft, soft peddling her will not help her, she needs to know that what she did was a serious and dangerous thing to do, her whole future life could have been ruined because of it.So have her earn the money to pay the store and hopefully she will have learned her lesson.
