What is a brief plot summary?
You should be able to summarize the plot in just one paragraph. In your summary you are not doing any interpreting or analyzing. You are not looking at themes or ideas. You are simply telling a very short version of the story. "...In the Wizard of Oz a young girl named Dorothy is knocked unconscious in a storm and dreams of being in a fantastic city where a good witch grants her protection with magic slippers. Dorothy befriends a scarecrow, a man of tin and a cowardly lion and together they each pursue the quality or idea they most lack and desire; respectively, a brain, a heart, courage and for Dorothy a way back home. The ruler of Oz promises them these gifts but a wicked witch intervenes. Dorothy inadvertently destroys the witch, however the wizard turns out to be a fraud and is actually powerless to bestow the four characters with what they are pursuing." That's the basic plot of a very eventful story. Do the same with yours. In the paragraphs that follow you will expand on what you have already written, going into more explanation about the most important plot turns and major themes. Keep it general and don't get bogged down in detail.
