Should Black People Ever Say The N-word

Why do black people say the N-word?

I've heard lots of black people say the N-word and I find it infuriating!
Just think of all the people that fought so that white people couldn't degrade you and call you that, so that you could speak freely and be treated equally. The people that died for those rights for you, both black and white people!
And you are using language like that?!?!
I'm white and I don't like to hear that word from ANYONE!
How can black people use this language? I just don't get it.
Can someone explain it to me?

Who can say the N word other than black people?

I’d like to know this.As a light-skinned Brazilian with a dark-skinned mestiço father (my grandfather is White and my grandmother is Black) and a “White” mother (whose grandmother was Native American), I often found myself having trouble defining who I was. Here in Brazil, people call me White because of my light skin, but being raised in a Black family (my grandmother’s) I couldn’t identify with that title without feeling like I was denying my family. So, I accept the term Mestiça.However, because I always struggled with the limits to my rights to the Black culture, I never knew where I stood. Most brazilian shouldn’t use the n-word based on the fact that we have no historical claim to it... most don’t understand it culturally either. However, I’m curious as to if, based merely on my heritage, I’m allowed any claim to it. Most African Americans use it not to let it hurt them, but what about me?

How do black people feel about the "n-word"?

Black people don't like to be called that.  And songs are just songs, they are fantasy not reality.  Alot of these artist are high on drugs to increase their creativity when they write these.  There job isn't necessarily to speak the objective truth, but to express their feelings in the moment.  There are however some rappers who try to change the word meaning or things like that or try to take the racial sting out of it.  It is really a fruitless effort. And there is a whole other dimension in the fact that often it is the record studio who is run by white execs telling the black rappers to use the n-word.  If you don't put it in, they shelf your record and you owe them millions of dollars in production cost.  Lupe Fiasco talked about and so did Professor Grifft, and several other rappers. To put it in perspective, they got the jewish rappers like little dickey calling themselves kikes, the asian rappers like jin and mondega calling themselves gooks and chinks, and they got the white rappers like eminem dropping lines like honkey I hit em up.  I don't know any asian or jew who wants to be called a chink or a kike.  You need to learn to separate fantasy from reality.

Why can anyone say fag, but only black people can say the n word?

You are mistaking can (ability to do something) with something being socially acceptable. Anyone can say n*gger or f*g (well, aside from people who can’t speak I suppose), as it takes no special ability to form the syllables on your lips.Should you say them, though?Black people have had a rough time of things. It has gotten significantly less rough (e.g. we don’t lynch them if a white woman feels threatened by a Black dude walking by), but members of the Black community have fought hard to get where they are today. We don’t use racial slurs for many reasons, but honestly “Black” is one syllable and really easy to say, and not inherently offensive (even if you said “that Black motherf*cker sideswiped my car!” that is merely a descriptive phrase). I honestly don’t see why this is hard for people. Do you want to say things that are offensive? Are you mad that you can’t say something because people will dislike you for it? That’s how society works. People will look down on those detrimental to society. So can anyone say f*g? Yes. But again, should they? The U.S. in particular is a very religious country. The bible has some very anti-homosexual themes. In Judges, a man takes in a stranger, and some drunk? crazy? people come over and say “give us that stranger you just met earlier today so we can f*ck him”. The man says—not making this up—”take my virgin daughter and this concubine instead and have your way with them”. They refuse so eventually he gives them just the concubine (negotiation tactics?) and they rape her to death (this leads to a war that has an even more terrible moral lesson). The bible puts homosexuality as worse than letting your daughter be raped. I mean, the bible has terrible moral lessons, but people still listen to them (glossing over things like wholesale slaughter of children and innocents). Because of this, homosexuality was…let’s say “frowned upon”.People use words like f*ggot and n*gger to demean people, viewing them as less than human. If you view people as less than human, then go right ahead.Otherwise, go find a dictionary. There are over 150,000 words in the English language, I’m sure you can find one that insults people fairly, you slubberdegullion.

Why do black people still say the word “nigger" given the history of the word?

It is well known that Blacks use the N word amongst each other, the same way other groups use offensive language with each other. Black people are NO different in this respect. Jews, Italians, Irish, Latin, etc., have used derogatory language with each other in terms of endearment and in many cases to be inflammatory with each other. However, can we PLEASE stop pretending that White people have somehow stopped using the word? On Quora there seems to be a large group of people that complain that somehow they “can’t” use the word.White usage of the word has NEVER stopped. Whites have mostly stopped using the word in the company of Blacks. However, many of them have not stopped using the word. Some of you really should admit it. Your grandfathers, grandmothers, aunts and uncles still use the word at times. It slips out when a Black person cuts you off on the highway. I am NOT saying that all of you use it. Many of you find the word just as reprehensible as some Blacks. However, you have heard your friends and coworkers utter it under their breath. So please…please…PLEASE…stop clutching your pearls every time you hear a Black person say it as if it were the first time you heard that word being used since the Civil War.Because it’s not.The only thing that changed is that many Whites simply STOPPED using the word IN FRONT OF BLACK PEOPLE. That’s it. But yet if you do a search on this very topic, you’ll see tons of questions of whining people who seem to want to use the word with reckless abandon. Like, why are you looking for a reason to disrespect Black people? Oh…right…because a few rap artists use the word, then ALL Black people use the word, right? WRONG. Not all Black people use the word just like all White people don’t.It angers me to continue to see this sometimes.Oh and I’m side eying the OP……..

Should black people be allowed to say "cracker"?

Yes, for at least 200 years --- the amount of time they were in slavery.
You reap what you sow, white people.

Can Asian people say the N word?

I never say that word to anyone, and I am black. Not with the -er sounding end, or the -a sound. I won't sing or listen to a song that has that word, I detest it. I will tolerate some black people using it, but never to describe me or my family. If anyone of another race uses it, I consider it a gesture of hatred, the opening of hostilities. I am not alone. There are black people who don't mind, or who will accept it on a case-by-case basis, but why take the risk that you're meeting or being overheard by one of them and not one of me?There are Asian people who have a history of racist behaviour towards black people, being a person of colour is a not an automatic pass. That word is NOT accepted by all black people. If I can remove it from my vocabulary and still spend time among black people, why can't you?

Have you ever used the N-word to your black friends?

The question should say if you are white. In Latino areas across New York City and other major American cities, the use of the N word is very common. Puerto Rican, and even Asian rappers use the word in their lyrics all the time. It is a colloquial slang endemic to American poverty and struggle. I’ve seen everyone use it informally at some point in my life, except white people of course. That would lead to trouble, even from non-black people.
