Should Employers Get Tomorrow Off Or Just The Employees

I have a pre-employment drug-screening tomorrow - should I avoid caffeine until then?

No. When they test for drugs they usually test for the metabolites of the "NIDA 5" amphetamines, opiates, THC, cocaine, and PCP are the usual five they pick. They can choose from these though.

Cannabinoids (marijuana, hashish - tests for metabolite THCCOOH)
Cocaine (cocaine, benzoylecognine, cocaethylene)- tests for cocaine metabolite)
Amphetamines (amphetamine, methamphetamine)
Opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine, 6-MAM)
Phencyclidine (PCP)
Methadone (MTD)
Barbiturates (BAR)
Benzodiazepines (BZO)
Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA)
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or ecstasy)
[1] While SAMHSA/NIDA guidelines only allow laboratories to report quantitative results for the "NIDA-5" on their official NIDA tests, many drug testing laboratories and on-site tests also offer a wider or "more appropriate" set of drug screens which may be more reflective of current drug use patterns. As noted above, these tests include synthetic pain killers such as Oxycodone (Oxycontin, Percoset), Oxymorphone, Hydrocodone (Vicodin), Hydromorphone, benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, Restoril) and barbiturates in other drug panels (a "panel" is a predetermined list of tests to run). The confirmation test (usually GC/MS, or LC/MS/MS) CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN chemically similar drugs such as methamphetamine and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or ecstasy), and in the absence of detectable amounts of methamphetamine in the sample, the lab will either report the sample as negative or report it as positive for MDMA. What the lab reports to the client depends upon whether MDMA was included in the panel as something to be tested for.

Although caffeine can be tested for it is not an illegal substance and therefor not tested for on the standard drug panels. Nor would it cause a false positive for any other drug. GC/MS (gas chromotography/mass spectrometry) would certainly find that it is caffeine as well.

Asking an employer to reschedule pre-employment exam?

I am schedule to have an pre-employment physical and drug test tomorrow, but I'm coming down with a cold and I afraid that it might get worse tomorrow since I can't take any medication as I'm afraid that this may lead to any false positive on my result. I really want this job so I don't really want to leave a bad impression with the employer. If my symptom get worse and I have to reschedule it, would that reflect negatively on me? I don't want my employer thinking that I am faking for any reason.

Why do federal employees get a day off when a president dies?

Most will if the sitting president declares a National Day of Mourning which has happened ever time since world war 2 when an ex president or sitting president dies. So most employees do get a paid day off and if they work they get time and 1/2 and a future day of paid administrative leave. This is how the Post Office works which is probably the biggest section besides the military. The military just gets paid a flat rate if they work 365 days or 2 days, besides 30 days of annual leave they don't get any holidays. Only key very essential employees will work, not essential employees like in a shutdown as the Post Office will work in a shutdown. It's more like a Sunday routine but it happens on whatever day is declared the National Day of Mourning.

I'm losing my job tomorrow, with two kids, a car and a house. What is my best thing to do?

Tell everyone you know you’re looking for a job. Network on LinkedIn and other social media.File for unemploymentPrioritize your bills - must have (electric), want to have (cable), can be late (credit cards), can ignore/deferred (paying back your brother/student loan). Know when you’re going to run out of money.[Edit] Thanks to everyone who pointed out to call your creditors. They’ll work out slow to delayed payment schedules.Plan for bankruptcy. There’s never a better time.Look into tapping your 401k after being laid off. Yes, it’s a bad idea… but better than homeless.Spend 50 hours a week looking for jobs in your field. Do this locally for a week, then spread out nationally if possible. Look for remote positions if you cannot move. Customize EVERY resume using key words from the job description. Have 40 bullet points and skills/results for your resume - use 25 on any given resume.Looking for a job is NOW your full-time job. After a national search in your field, go outside your field. After savings and unemployment are gone, take ANY job. File for federal assistance.Spend 15 hours a week looking out for yourself. Get to the gym. Start running. Make lunch plans with colleagues and friends. Immerse yourself in a hobby you used to love (after the job search hours are done).Go to parks with the kids. Take your wife out on a date to just watch the stars.Don’t panic or get stressed out. You’ve been without money before. You’ll be fine in a few months.[Edit: I was laid off seven months ago. This is how I prioritized.Your situation may be different. Your retirement may be a higher prioritization. Your credit score may be a bigger deal to you. You may not be able to move to a different part of the country. For me, it worked fine. I had a job offer 7 weeks later. I moved for the new job 10 weeks later about 500 miles north. Grabbing some dollars out of my 401k, that became available after rolling over to a traditional IRA, kept me above water. I probably put my retirement target age back about 6 or 10 months. If I was 58-years-old, it would have bothered me - a lot. But for now, it cost me a 10% IRS penalty and I lost future earnings on what I took out. Thanks for reading]

Can a company deny the relieving letter if the employee has resigned and served the notice period as per the contract?

This will only happen in India and (1) When you have given a resignation letter you should make 2 copies and give one and get the acknowledgement on the another one. (2) They can -till they have shown certain way of teaching a lesson. Let's see the other ways.. 1. Do you have copy of your resignation letter? If not make one and of the same date and if you have sent it through the mail then there must be a acknowledgement from them you get that print out keep it with you. If not tomorrow morning you send  email ( very politely) that you have submitted your resignation on so and so date and you would like to know the status of it.  ( whether accepted or pending or not accepted etc) say only status.  And then start reminding them by phone or in person every alternative day. once you got the acknowledgement and reason for dealy etc take a print out and keep it with you.Now you write a nice polite letter to your HR Manager from where you got the offer. explaining the situations and attaching the resignation letter you sent to them 15 / 20 days back - and inform them ( never blame the present employer) that " I am afraid that the management is not happy about my resignation and may delay the approval of it.  As I have the salary certificate and resignation letter copy with me - will it be sufficient for you to accept me and issue me the appointment letter? If they say yes.. then you must be careful to write a letters informing the present co that : with reference to my letters where in I requested you to relieve me as early as possible and I till now even after 25 days neither I received any communication or information about the status of my resignation letter.  I would like to inform you I will not be attending the office from ( give a date) so I request you to make arrangements to relieve me by taking over the papers, and other files which I am presently handling now as soon as possible or designate some one so I can handover the things to him. Still if these people are playing tricks - Issue another letter after 3 days - making it as reminder - the plan is to create a record of sorts.. - like you resigned long back, on your own, you need to handover few things ( tomorow they should not give a police complaint about that some thing was lost etc) and the HR managers should know that you are creating a record. Still these people are adamant - then you need to consult a lawyer.

Can an employer fire me for cutting (not bad) at work? I’ll go in tomorrow and I’m scared because I know someone told her.

There’s no such thing as cutting work that is not bad.You pulled a no show for no good reason and then compounded the problem by not taking responsibility and calling to let them know you couldn’t come in.You caused your employer stress. You caused the other staff stress. You left staff short handed. All of these things are immature and irresponsible. If you didn’t already know that, then that may be a sign you are not ready to be employed. As for if they can fire you, this will depend on the contract you signed when you were hired, the terms of your employment, or the labour laws in your region. If you do get fired, try to learn a lesson and be better at your next job.If you don’t get fired, definitely learn a lesson. Be better. Have some respect for your employer and fellow employees. More to the point, understand that even if you are not fired, every action you take paints a picture of the kind of employee you are. You may need this employer to give you a reference when you leave. Think very carefully of the kind of reference you will get if you continue to indulge in this kind of behaviour.Good luck!

Do car dealerships use hair drug tests for pre-employment?

Why would it be the same for ALL dealerships? Each one is independently owned. Do you think they all get together and say "hey, let's urine test ONLY, not a hair test"?

Some don't test at all.

Stupid question.
