Should Europeans Just Give Up Soccer

How do I get my son into a European soccer academy?

Thanks for the A2A and sorry for the late reply.I don’t know how old your son is, but if he’s between the age of 10–12, it would be relatively easier than getting him in a top academy at say, 15–17.From 10–12 is pretty much conventional. Get him into one of the best academies in your country. if he plays well, chances are he’ll be spotted by a scout of a top team. Now lets assume he’s in the other age bracket, you’ll need to get an agent who can arrange trials, or if you have contacts you can talk to them and they’ll get him a trial.Playing for your nation’s U17 team is also a route. So get him into an academy well known for producing players for your country’s U17 team and if he does well, he’ll be granted a big stage to showcase his talent. The most viable option for him is to travel and make things happen. Get in touch with people that can get him trials, but please make sure he’s mentally prepared for playing in Europe, because it is not easy.He needs an elite mentality and a will of fire, so make sure you help him get mentally prepared, so much so that he doesn’t get fazed by anything.I know my answer isn’t straightforward per se, but that’s because there are quite a number of ways of getting into a football academy in Europe. The most important thing is making sure he’s actually good enough to play in Europe. If he isn’t then there’s no point moving there. So help him become one of the best players (in his age group) in your country and build on that.

Why do Europeans still call soccer as football in the 21st century?

I will assume an American asked this question. The answer is the sport is originally called football. And Americans, like a lot of things are deluded that it’s called soccer. Not sure where the word soccer comes from and why a game that is played with hands is called football. But everywhere else in the world. Nobody calls football, “soccer”. And nobody besides Americans plays “American football” Real football was invented in England not America. So it should be called accordingly

Why American call European Football "Soccer"?

Actually the soccer came before "footballl"

They call it that because you use your foot. Kicking it around with your foot. So the sensable name for it would be called "football.

I don't know how in america it got changed

And i am not just guessing i know its true

What are my chances of making a top European soccer youth team like FC Barca in 2 years if I'm 14 and train intensely for 9 hrs/day (and play futsal)

I don't think you've fully thought this through. When you say you're going to train “intensely” for 6 hours a day, what do you actually mean? Have you considered what kind of training you would do? How you would make your training purposeful and rigorous, rather than just aimlessly kicking a ball around a pitch? Also, you’re 14. I don't know where you come from and what your educational system is like, but it's likely you’re entering a vital stage in your educational development. Chances are you'll be spending 6 hours a day at school, with about 1–2 hours worth of homework a night. Then you have to factor in travelling time, eating, sleeping, all of which are important in your development. And you don't play for a club. I don't know anything about how good a footballer you currently are, but given your age, this would indicate that you haven't progressed very far in the game yet. Most aspiring footballers at your age would have been training and playing since they were very young, maybe 4 or 5.Finally, your motivation appears suspect. You mention playing for the youth team of arguably the most famous club side in the world, not to mention your national team. Quite frankly, it suggests that you're motivated by the prospect of fame and fortune, rather than the pure joy of simply playing the game. If this is the case, then you will quickly get tired of repetitive, solitary training sessions. My suggestion would be to lower your aim. Millions of people play football every day without the slightest hope of ever playing professionally, let alone for a club like Barcelona. They play for the joy of playing, for the competition, to improve their skills and achieve their own internal goals, rather than the external ones you've mentioned.Join a club. Train with your friends. Get fit. Practice some drills alone. Play competitive games, learn to accept losing and winning as part of your own journey. And above all, enjoy playing football as an end in itself.

Why is it that most Americans don't like soccer?

because it isn't a sport americans play as kids. at least not traditionally.
being british i grew up with soccer and cricket. i hate baseball and basketball. the opposite is true for americans. no one is right or wrong, its just what you know.

To oran who posted a few below, america is ranked 5th in the world but you have to take into account that ranking is calculated by the teams they play (especially world cup qualifing). european teams play each other so teams like italy, spain, portugal, france, england all potential world cup winning teams have a difficult time ranking because there is no one great team. they are all fairly even. North American teams play each other, so the US plays teams like Canada, St Lucia, Kitts, Dominica etc. most of these teams are small islands whose main sport is cricket. Several of these countries only have part time players. It is widely regarded that the US is not the 5th best team and that the FIFA ranking system is inherently wrong.

Can anyone give me links to mexican teams beating european teams in the past?

How lame is Major League Soccer?

It's very lame. The league format itself is a joke. Seriously, East vs West? play-offs? no relegation?
