Should I Add Toner To My Hair If I

Do you use a toner and then dye your hair?

Usually? No. Sometimes? Yes.The correct answer is the reverse of your question.A “toner” is just an abbreviated name for corrective color dye (usually a semi-permanent, demi-permanent or temporary color) used to shift hair color after previous services, such as highlights, that use bleach or other chemicals to remove or alter hair color. For example, usually when you bleach hair it will turn banana-yellow or orange. Hair colorists use toners to shift hair from stark yellow into a golden, sandy or beige color that looks more natural.I say “shift” because a toner is not meant to permanently lift or lighten hair color. It is not usually intended to make hair lighter or darker. It is only meant to cancel out undesired colors or enhance a desired color.Let's get sciencey. Think of the color spectrum. What are the opposite colors that clash on a color wheel? Red is the opposite of green. Yellow is the opposite of purple. Orange is the opposite of blue. So, if hair is too orange you add blue to cancel it out. If it's too yellow you can use purple to turn hair platinum. Of course, since blue, purple and green are strong “cool” tones, you have to be careful not to use too much. A toner uses small concentrations of these colors to cancel out just enough of another color so that hair looks “natural.”However, there ARE times when you WOULD use a color just like a toner before you dye your hair. However, under these circumstances, the toner is referred to as a “filler.” There is nothing chemically different about this color. The terminology refers only to how the color is used. A filler is used to “fill” light hair with color pigment (usually reds or oranges) first, so that when you dye your hair darker it looks more rich and natural, instead of flat or muddy.Hair colorists almost always use toners after doing highlights or bleaching hair in order to give you your desired result. In my experience, in order to preserve the mysterious magic of hair science, they often do this at the shampoo bowl and won't tell you unless you ask. You might think it's just a secondary post-service conditioner. As long as you leave the salon happy, that's what counts.

Can I use blonde hair dye instead of a toner?

Toner are actually colour that accentuate or attenuate the the colours hues in your hair. They are hair blonde dye with different colour accents. So if your hair is too yellowish, you may uses ash blond to tone it down.Similarly, if you wish your hair to be more yellow, you can use golden blond.Only if you find the effect is not intense enough you can add colour boosters or correctors in your blonde toner. Please note colour boosters/correctors must only be used to with a colour dye not independently. You can consider a ultrablonde if you wish to further lift your tones. Use with suitable developer. For more detailed answers I'll need to compare your hair to the colour chart and do more detail consultation. This is not possible. Please consult an experienced colourist in your area.

Can i put a toner on my hair when its wet?

yes, you can use a toner on wet hair, i have never seen it done on dry hair b/c you want to use it as close as possible to highlights or bleaching for the lightest results. I always put in on just shampoo-ed, towel dry hair. Make sure you are mixing it with the right developer-usually a 30. no need to wash again. If it is a very light toner you may get a blue-ish-purple-ish tint, if so wash your hair with your reg shampoo and tide laundry detergent-1/2 & 1/2. I have almost white highlights

Should I use toner on bleached hair before dyeing it?

My suggestion as a hardcore beauty head would normally be avoid bleaching because of the damage it causes on your hair, but in this general case I would have to say you should probably bleach it, and deep condition your hair every couple of weeks. don't completely bleach your hair, as doing this will guarantee damage, and to avoid the brassy coloring that will come with the bleaching and dying would be to use Pantene Pro-V Brilliant Blonde!
for the color protection I suggest the Pantene color care system.
for the first wash be gentle and quick because washing to thoroughly will cause colorfade. as for conditioning put a considerable amount of it in your palm and work it very throughly through your hair and leave it in to sit for the entire time your in the shower, and rinse in cold water, rinse in cold water because this helps the conditioner seal around your roots and hair folicals and gives better color protection.
if you use heated styling tools regualarly I would suggest using a heat protectant everytime before heat use.
enjoy your hair (:

Can I mix toner with my hair dye for the same results?

No you cant, because blonde hair dyes (unless it is a semi-permanent, which in your case the Wella is not) include bleach/peroxide. So the process to get the colour is in two steps. Being step 1 using the pale ash blonde to lift the hair and step 2 being to put a colour on top - the toner. Dont mix them together. Amanda seyfried seems to have a more warm colour in her hair so if you are after that try a golden blonde dye, and then dont leave the toner on for too long.

Im doing highlights on my hair, what does adding toner mean?

as a matter a fact I got highlights yesterday and she put a toner in there and I also asked the same question - she said is to lift the color - so is to make it more vivid! =)

I bleached my hair about 2 months ago, can I put a toner on to it now or does a toner need to be applied straight after it's been bleached?

you can tone it at any time. but if you want to upkeep your blonde you better do your roots NOW. eight weeks is as about as long as you can go before your roots are too long to lift without banding. due to the heat from your head, your hair lifts more slowly once it grows more than an inch away from the scalp. if you bleach your roots like normal after this stage you will get a “hot root” and create a more yellowy band between your new growth and old colour. stylist are always trying to train their bleach out clients to come in at around six weeks to avoid this. it is a huge pain in the butt when they wait too long, because you need to do a double application to avoid banding while being really careful not to overlap. because of the extra job time we have to charge more. i wish people would realize that you are not saving money by waiting longer

Can you use toner straight after bleaching your hair?

Toner is almost always used right after bleach, because bleached hair has a very unflattering yellow or orange color that most people don’t like. However, to prevent further damage to your hair you want to use a toner with a low volume developer, or even one that doesn’t require a developer. How to Tone Hair After BleachingIf your hair is very damaged from the bleach, semi-permanent dyes like Manic Panic can do a good job of cancelling the yellow. But if your hair is fine, in general Wella ColorCharm works great and is not very damaging. Just keep in mind that toner will generally darken your hair (though by being ashier the blonde will look brighter) and won’t lift any more color. You can also use toner in between bleach sessions to remove brassiness, as toner will wash off eventually and the yellow will come back.
