Should I Do Dance Or No

I can't dance. I have no sense of rhythm. What can I do about this?

Thanks for the A2A.It’s tricky. Yes, there are people who reportedly ‘have no rhythm’.I was never one of those, so I’ll do my best.On a purely physiological level, we all have some type of rhythm. We breathe regularly, our heart beats, we walk, run, etc….These are all pretty standard rhythms. Simple 1–2…. Breathe in, Breathe out, Right-Left, etc…First thing is, don’t focus on dancing first. Focus on the rhythm. Nothing else. Tap your foot to it, snap your fingers to it. Just focus on the baseline, that main ‘thump thump’ of any song. Walk in place to the music, or even just try to sync your walking to some music you listen to while heading somewhere. That’s the first step. Before you try much in the way of dances, you need to get that connection with some, ANY rhythm. As a dance to potentially try first - Merengue. It’s a Latin dance. And it’s one of the easiest dances, in that it goes off a basic 1–2 beat. No catches, pauses, half-steps, etc (Like say, Salsa or such). I literally joke when I taught dancing that ‘If you can walk, you can do Merengue’.Listen to it, step to it.. Step in circles slowly, walk/step in circles. Step-forward-turn (U-turn) to the rhythm… Don’t worry about partner, spins, or anything. Train your body to the rhythm. If you like more pop/hip-hop… Can do the same thing. Most of it is a pretty solid 4-beat rhythm. Break it down into simple 1–2, and again, step to it. You may not be ‘smooth’ at the movement yet, but so what? That will come. Step, or even march along to the rhythm. Do basic side to side. Hell, even just watch a workout video put to music. Not a high level one, but a simple one that works side-to-side a lot as a base-line.Once you can identify and move to a basic rhythm: simple walking, stepping in place, side to side, etc.. Then worry about adding more and moving your arms, smoothing it out, adding a ‘bounce’ to the steps…. Then you can worry about ‘dancing’. Start small, start slow. Unless the artistic part of your brain truly has no serious connection to how your body moves, you can get some basics down.

Can I do dance if im not flexible?

Im a girl and 14. I did gymnastics and dance from the age 3 to 9. 3-7 was ballet and 7-9 was gymnastics. I never got to a high even MEDIUM level in dance/ballet and gymnastics was the same. They never placed me in a high level and i know why. Keep reading!! Then I just quit. I was a kid you know? I wasn't serious about anything. Im 14 now almost 15 and I want more than anything to get back into dance. Im spending the summer hitting the gym and strengthening my body back up. If this helps answering the question at all my body isnt tall and thin like a model. im 5'2 and have a very toned body. i have strong thick thighs and a flat muscle stomach. Anyway the reason I THINK they never moved me up in class levels was because well im not flexible. In any way! I cant do the splits, kick my legs up, or do any of those moves! Its frustrating. Can I learn to be flexible? Is it something that comes with practice? Can I do dance when im not? AND since im looking for private dance lessons, will a teacher have the patience teaching a none flexible student? I have all the motivation in the world to be a dancer and I really want to know. Can anyone help me out and answer my questions in this long paragraph? Thankyou so much.

Should I Do Dance or Volleyball?

I've been working very hard in dance for 4 years and I've been playing volleyball for 1. I guess you could say I like volleyball better, but it's been my dream to be a dancer ever since I was little and I really don't want to give dance up. I have trying to decide and had to juggle both for a year now, and I had finally made up my mind that I wanted to dance (even though I would have to work really hard), but then I went to a volleyball camp that I absolutely loved and remembered why I loved to play volleyball again. Even though aspects of dance such as flexibility are a big challenge for me, I love dancing to music itself and basically can't turn on a song without trying to choreograph a routine to it (and dancing along in front of my mirror). But at the same time, volleyball comes a lot more naturally to me, which, although I like right now, also means it could get boring when I'm older. I really should make the decision before next school year (8th grade), because I either need to try out for club volleyball or practice around 8 hours a week so I could make the dance team next year (and maybe my high school's poms team too). A lot of the girls I know from dance and volleyball have tried to do both, but have choosen one in the end and felt as if it was an obvious decision. However, I love both of them and cant figure out how I'm possibly going to choose between the two. Help!

Am I supposed to do a line-dance to Mambo No. 5?

In the second verse, there are vague instructions on how to do a line style dance to the song. My question is, are we supposed to follow these rules, or can we have a little fun with the dance?

Should we do lipsing while performing a dance?

Hi!..lip sync shows your involvement in the dance. esp bollywood style.however in other forms like salsa , hiphop, contemporary etc… its your strong expressions or eversmiling face that makes the difference.Imagine someone dancing (such a fun thing to do) with a straight/serious/blank face. It draws the fun and life out of the dance!lip sync and expressions depend on the theme or style of your dance and are THE most important part of dance.without these dance would be like honey without its sweetness.

I'm very passionate about dance, but I'm not a very good dancer. I don't have the time to attend dance classes, but I really want to learn how to dance. How can I do this using the Internet?

Most of us who are passionate about dancing always end up thinking we aren't good or good enough. But, over the years I have realised that dance is not about that certification of 'good' or 'bad'. Dance is a medium of expression, an art. You don't create art to gain appreciation, but simply for the joy and satisfaction it gives you, similarly, stop thinking of dance as a skill or technique. Stop questioning yourself and whether you have training or not. Dance is beautiful if you just feel it, without looking for an approval or a validation from someone. The phrase 'Dance like no one is watching' is a really good mantra. Infact, personally, I also used to feel that I'm not a good dancer, though I love dancing. But when I stopped thinking about whether I am good or not, I actually started enjoying the process of learning dance. When you do that, compliments flow naturally towards you even without you realising. You don't dance for someone else to see, you do it for yourself, for your own soul :)And learning from the internet is the new fad today. However, I suggest you watch Youtube videos of certified trainers and choreographers who teach you step by step from the basic level, because dancing can be physically strenuous if not done correctly. There are plenty of good choreographers and tutorial videos on Youtube! If you have the passion for dancing, and if you care for nothing but the experience you gain from it, irrespective of whether it is 'good' or 'bad', if you enjoy it, it will give you happiness, I guarantee this from my personal experience.

Majoring in dance with no experience?

I ve always wanted to dance, even from childhood, but my family could never afford it. I m currently 18 and plan to major in dance with a science minor. I don t want to be a professional (I did, but it s too late), but I would love to gain experience and be an expert at an academic level (the program is a mix of dance history courses and practices). My school doesn t require auditions for it, and under most of the classes is written "Non-majors encouraged". I have a year to pick a major, and this seems perfect for the career that I want (not to dance, but having knowlege in dance would be an advantage).

I ll be taking a dance course this semester, but not ballet (which is ususlly first), because it s filled--but I can get the class easier next year if I major in dance.

Is it normal to major in something while having little to no hands-on experience in it?

Ahh help can i make the dance team?! no experience? ):?

i'm on my schools dance team. when i came to tryouts with my two best friends, i have a bit of dance exprience, not enough for it to show much. my two friends didn't have any. for the first time, our school started a JV team. without that team, i woun't have made it.
so, go for it, just work out it. pratice pratice pratice! it took 8 hours for me and my friends to get that ruoutine down.
good luck! :)

omg, i was just reading some of the other respones. and to all the people who say 'no, its not posible'. well, my two friends made it on our dance team, no expirice at all. all you have to do is work hard, and anything is posible.

Can I dance without flexibility?

Flexibility is the byproduct of dancing. You don't have to have it to start classes. However if you are naturally very inflexible it will be more challenging. Barring anything physically wrong with you, anyone can increase their natural flexibility by 20%. If you haven't moved much then perhaps you have more natural flexibility than you are aware of and are just stiff from lack of working on it.
Ballet class will make you more flexible. It wont happen over night and it is not something you can rush. You may want to try adding some yoga and floor pilates. Pilates elongates the muscles, builds core strength and increases flexibility. If you do track stop that as sprinting with shorten your leg muscles and decrease flexibility. Don't do things like lunges. Find yourself a teen beginner ballet class and get started. You will find ballet class very helpful for musical theater.
