Should I Drink Water When Drinking Alcohol

Does drinking a glass of water in between alcoholic drinks stop hangovers? If so, would mixing the water in with the alcoholic drinks have the same effect? Why (not)?

It helps. But doesn’t stop it.Hangovers are caused by a combination of things. One is definitely dehydration - and drinking water definitely helps. At the same time the diuretic properties of alcohol (that make you pee more) also end up removing salts and electrolytes - so you need to replace these too.Even then, the main problem remaining is that alcohol gets broken down into a variety of things that are toxic - acetaldehyde is one of the main toxins generally recognised. This is why alcohol initially makes you feel good, but then you feel bad after when the alcohol has been broken down into other chemicals. These chemicals require a lot of vitamins and minerals to remove them - and also unfortunately - time. So eating well and properly will also help - ideally before and after.Ultimately - if you drink too much you cannot avoid some kind of hangover. I hydrate a lot and have vitamins before bed so my main symptom is tiredness - I don’t get headaches or vomiting - but the tiredness can be pretty bad still.Note pacing your drinks also has a big impact. The faster you consume alcohol (which is why shots and neat spirits can be REALLY bad) also has an impact,Finally - the type of alcohol also has an impact. The hangover feeling for me is vastly different from over consuming whisky vs vodka. Darker drinks have more associated toxins (congeners as they are known) and they definitely produce way worse hangovers for me.Hope this helps. Try a berocca or other vitamin drink before bed along with ibuprofen - that can help.

It I drink water when drinking alcohol will it prevent a hangover?

Not necessarily. It can help, but if you drink a lot you'll still get a hangover even if you drink a lot of water. Some people don't get hangovers at all, some people only get them from drinking certain types of alcohol. You'll have to experiment to find out what works.

Is it bad to drink water after you've been drinking alcohol?

My mom always told me not to guzzle water in the morning, no matter how bad I wanted it, because it flushes all the toxins in alcohol bad through your liver and that's very damaging. My mother is usually right, haha, but I've read some stuff about drinking water during and after drinking alcohol and most of it seems pretty logical.. I'm confused.

When drinking alcohol, will water make you throw up?

I'm sorry, but the friend who gave you the Gatorade is definitely misinformed. Bread and water are great accouterments when drinking. Hangovers are primarily caused by dehydration, though other factors are involved as well (still poorly understood). Never drink on an empty stomach. Always drink water between alcoholic drinks. Never drink and drive. Follow those rules and you'll be fine. Gatorade is good to hydrate with but it contains a lot of sugar which can add to a hangover as well. Bread and water are your friends.

Drinking water when you're drunk?

I was told the other day that one of the worst things you could give a really drunk person is water. They said they'd been told a paramedic and that it's a myth that giving water to a drunk person helps - in fact it just makes it worse. I was wondering how this could be true?

I know that alcohol is a diuretic and therefore you do need to replace the lost fluids, but if the above is true then I guess what they're saying just applies if the person is completely trashed!? And that drinking water is advised in between alcoholic drinks or in the morning when (most of) the alcohol has been broken down in your body/ when you're no longer being effected by alcohol.

Thanks for insight into this - I've tried to look it up on the internet but haven't come up with anything about not giving water to a very drunk person.

No, you never want to drink milk four hours after drinking any kind of alcohol. The calcium in the milk fuses together with the ethyl alcohol molecules to produce diethylcalcitrate which is actually a radioactive combination that is known to cause massive malignant tumor growth within the digestive tract, especially in the lower colon and rectum. Within a few weeks you won’t be able to pass a stool due to the excessively fast tumor growth and will be in severe pain. Not long after, you will lose motor control of your legs and spleen. But if you catch it in time, and if you’re lucky, you’ll just have to deal with a colostomy bag for the rest of your life.Come on, now…is milk and alcohol bad to drink together? Here’s a better question: “Is it safe to fart while taking a shit when I’m at home, alone?” or “If I hold in my farts, will I explode?”Milk, taken hours after consuming alcohol, will not kill you.
