Should I Get A Capacitor

Which car capacitor should i get?

I am planning on buying a car audio capacitor. I have two choices one is the Rockford Fosgate 10 farad Hybrid stiffening cap (RFC10HB) and the other is a NVX 10 farad hybrid stiffening cap
(NVX XCAP10H) Which one is better to get?

How to make a gimmick capacitor?

As a rough guide, you get 1pF per inch.
Best way to measure these small values is to put it in a resonant circuit and compare the output frequency to what you get with a known capacitor value in the same parish.

How many amps could my capacitor put out?

I have a few electrolytic caps rated: 450vdc and 800mfd. I was wondering how many amps a single cap could support (very rapid discharge). Also mfd = millifarad, right?

Where can I get a capacitor which does not leak?

Look you cannot get any capacitor which does not leak. Leakage will occur whatever cap you are using. But the thing is that cheaper crap capacitors can leak a lot more than genuine caps. Buy caps from good sources like Digikey, Element 14, etc. Many sellers from eBay sells cheaper craps and they leak the worse. If you have any smps of your computer, after a couple of years of usage you'll see that at the terminals of big caps, some yellow liquid has been discharged and solidified. These are the leakage of chemicals over course of time. Of course a good priced genuine cap will last much longer. Last but not the least look at this below:

Where can I get this capacitor or something similar?

Stuart is right - they have them. But he forgot to tell you that electrolytic capacitors are polarized. They have a - (minus) and a + (plus) terminal. Watch how you replace it! + goes to the + on the board. If you do it wrong, it will blow up and do more board damage. When you remove it make sure you put it in the same as the old bad one!

Do you have to charge a capacitor before using it ?

do you have to charge a capacitor before hooking it up ? if so HOW ? and does it matter if you hook it up before or after a distribution block if one split is going to the subs, and the other is going to a 4 channel amp.

Should I get a second battery, a 2.5 farad capacitor or should I be good?

A capacitor, battery, and alternator all perform different functions - you can't just choose the best one.

An large alternator is needed to generate the largest amount of power - the alternator needs to generate power faster than the stereo uses it so make sure its lots big. (has to run the rest of the vehicle as well) The alternator you have generates 200 A x 12 V = 2400 W max.

A second battery just stores more energy so that the stereo can play twice as long for without the car running. With that system it would not be very long. And if you do listen to it without running the car you may want to consider deep cycle batteries.

Finally a cap reduces the dynamic draw on the battery and alternator - more so the alternator.

For this system the model numbers mean nothing to me - the cap is probably a good idea from looking at those wattages. Battery is not needed in any circumstance unless you are planning on draining the battery you have. The alternator depends on your total system power.

What size and brand Capacitor and Amp should I get?

Im upgrading my system. I used to have a Pioneer 760watt amp powering an 800watt 12inch Pioneer sub. It kicked pretty good but recently I fried the amp(and alternator, I got a new one tho). So I decided its time to upgrade. I'm going to get another 800watt 12inch Pioneer sub but I need a new amp and I need a capacitor. So I was thinking about getting the same amp i had before(760watt) but I figured i could get something that puts out a little more power for around the same price. Should I just get the 760watt pioneer amp or should I get something else? Also what size and brand capacitor should I get? I'm driving a 94 Toyota camry so I dont need anything too powerful but I want something that will impress.
