Did you get a car for your 16th birthday?
I'm 14 and I know you said don't answer if you aren't 16 but I am going to anyway. My sister is 16 and her birthday was in January (the 6th to be exact) and she goat a car for Christmas. What a spoiled little b*tch. It was a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Then a week later they were recalled. haha.

Let me restate myself... I would like this car (ford escape, around $16,000) and I would get a job if I had time (ap classes take up a lot of time!). Any other solutions to making money fast? I have applied at places but most around where i live don't hire until you're 16!
What car should I get for my 16th birthday?
When you are a teenager and money is limited, go for something that is cheap to run overall. The Wrangler has good off road handling, but mediocre on road manners. The Wrangler is a textbook example of high rollover risk. It's also an unreliable gas guzzler. Stay away. The BMW 3 series has good driving dynamics, but is expensive to maintain and reliability with BMWs have been going downhill as they get more complicated. Also, once you have all the options ticked off with a new BMW, the price goes up by at least a few thouand dollars. The Acura ILX is okay, but at the end of the day, it is a repackaged Civic. I would honestly just get a Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Subaru Impreza/Forester, or 05-10 Ford Focus. Good driving dynamics with a fraction of the BMW headaches.

I’m not a parent, but I’ve been 16 and I didn’t get a car for my 16th birthday. Not because my parents couldn’t afford it or because they didn’t think it was necessary to buy me my own car, but because we live in Australia and you can’t get your driver’s license until you’re 18. When you turn 16 you can get your ‘learners permit’ where you have to drive 120 hours including 10 night hours, and have had your learners for at least a year to get your license. To get your learners you do a computer-based test and for your P’s (probationary license) you do another computer-based test known as your ‘hazards’ and a driving test with an instructor (but obviously they’re not instructing you during the test). First you get your red P’s for a year (there’s certain restrictions for this such as having to have a 0.0 BAC and only having one passenger between 16 and 22 in the car, other ages you can have as many as the car allows), then you get your green P’s for 3 years, where the same BAC rule and one passenger between 16 and 22 also applies. After this you get your full license. So basically you don’t get our full driver’s license until you’re at least 22.Weird, I know. We can also drink when we’re 18…so yeah.

You would sure be a cool parent…but is this the way to reward him?Isn’t there a car at home he can use? Unless he has a job and it’s inconvenient to schlep him around, I don’t think 16 year old males should own cars. Frankly I’m iffy about them as drivers period.I had 2 boys and 2 girls/all excellent students. When the boys got use of the family auto their grades went down and their expectation of unlimited use of the car went up.I bussed to and from work and could catch the bus right outside their High School parking lot. They just had to get to school 45 min early so I could get to work on time. The boys complained about having to get up early in order to use the car and missed picking me up at least a couple of days a week. Which meant I had to walk 3 miles home after working all day.Call me sexist but my daughters were much more responsible and appreciative at 16 than my sons were.Both my sons totaled family cars at 16. Good reliable cars with plenty of miles left, one was 2 years old-my son was drag racing and put it in a ditch nose first. It toppled over and the 4 teens in it ended up in hospital. Who drag races a Pontiac station wagon? Kid stuff!And my insurance went sky high. He didn’t drive a car again until he was in the army at 18!My other son drove through a red light and was hit by another car.Both got speeding tickets at 16.My daughters OTOH were ultra responsible. Never had a ticket or had an accident. Always happy to take me to the bus, we’re there to pick me up with rare exception.
Should i get a car or truck for my 16th birthday?
