Should I Go And Visit My Mother In Jail Does She Have The Right To Tell Me What To Do Now

Would you let a 14 year old girl visit her mom in jail for eight months for check fraud or is that too young?

Face-to-face contact is almost always better because the two can read each other's facial expressions and body language in addition to hearing each other's words and tone of voice. Check fraud is not a crime that inherently poses a risk of harm to children and presumably the daughter is not the victim of the crime of which the mother was convicted. So there is no reason to prohibit personal contact. The goal is to promote the parent-child relationship, despite the mother's relatively short-term incarceration. The penalty for violating the law in this instance is a period of incarceration, not the dissolution of family relationships—and the daughter has not been convicted and shouldn't have to suffer any greater loss of contact with her mother than necessary.I am in no way condoning the crime of which this mother was convicted, or any crime for that matter. But we do hav a system under which the punishment is expected to fit the crime. A seven-month sentence suggests that the crime didn't warrant a stiffer penalty. Moreover, since the crime was not one for which long-term removal from society was deemed appropriate, it makes a lot of sense to keep family and other positive relationships intact so that the mother can successfully reenter society and resume the parenting of her daughter, ideally without committing further crimes. This is in the daughter's best interests.

Can my mother or I regain custody of my niece if she has been adopted?

My brother and his ex girlfriend had a baby, my niece Kendra Gipson she was taken from his ex girlfriend and now is in the custody of a another family. My parents lost a custody case b/c my brothers name is not on the birth certificate nor does she have his last name or a DNA test, But he is the father. Currently he is in jail but in the mean time my family and I have not seen Kendra in years, b/c they went from letting her visit two times to blocking our number to changing their phone number completely. I just yesterday went over to visit my niece at their home granted I could not call to see if was okay but I was determined to try any ways. I went to the door as she barely opened it, introduced myself as Tamika, Kendra's aunt and I was wandering if it would it be okay to see her for a minute. Then their daughter closed the door and stated hold on.she came back and told me to leave. I miss my niece i want to see her,i feel if we dont get custody we'll never see her......

How old do you have to be to visit someone in jail? do you have to be 18?

call the facility where they are incarcerated -
ask about visitation policy

they may have a separate visitation phone line - and you may need to
make an appointment

they will instruct you when to be there/what to wear/etc

you miss your appointment - you may be sure outta luck for that weekend

all the best

Should I tell my 4 year old Grand daughter her daddy is in prison?

I have a 4 year old grand daughter whose father (my son) went to prison, good kid, but did something stupid and got caught.. I am not allowed to see her unless I do as her mother says, and tell my grand daughter that her father is in prison. I have told my grand daughter that either daddy is working or daddy is away, because I do think she is too young to comprehend telling her that her daddy is in jail, I also worry that when she starts kindergarten that other child will tease her and that will be detrimental to her. But, my grand daughters mother says that's the way it is. Her counselor told her to tell her daughter that daddy went to prison, and not to lie to her.. she told me if I do not tell her that her daddy is in prison, I can only see her with one exception, and that is for me to visit my grand daughter at her mothers/other grandmothers house. I am tempted to go and visit her there, because my grand daughters mother says that she misses me a great deal, my grand daughter and I were starting to get very close...Any advice would be greatly appreciated

How does a prisoner's incarceration affect family and friends?

From my perspective, the family gets incarcerated, too. I get a visit once every four months from my mother and sometimes my father for an hour, and a person who gets regular visits once told me that he can see the look on her face, a look of worry, wondering “If her baby’s alright.” It’s stressful for my family due to me being in this dangerous situation. I do see my sister once every couple of years, but I don’t really get visits much. Other family members don’t come at all; maybe it’s too painful to see me here. Also I’m glad I have a pay number at my job; it can also be burdensome financially on families. There are a lot of cases where it’s too burdensome and the family drops off because it’s just too much! I used to mentally switch places and imagine my mother or father were locked up and what it would feel like for me (or maybe if  my sister was incarcerated). The feeling I got was terribly distressing; it was so hard on me I would turn off the image in my mind quickly. So I can imagine how stressful it is for them. All communications between inmates and external channels are facilitated by approved volunteers since inmates do not have access to the internet. Well he hits my mom a lot and I'm frankly sick of it I'm 19 now and I'm frankly larger than him when he goes to sleep tonight I'm going to sneak in my moms house and bust a couple caps in him. Every time i come over to visit my mom has loads of bruises on her and tries to cover with make up convince me not to kill him?

Mom wants jail time for me?

the next time she kicks you out go to a payphone and dial DHS, tell them you were just kicked out of your home and your mom wont let you back in and you are on the streets. at that point your mom will be brought up on child neglect and endangerment charges and the police wont have any choice but to get involved. make sure you meet them at your complex or call at the phone nearest your complex.
