Should I Legally Change My Name

Can I legally change my name?

In English law you can call yourself what you like and so it is legal to ask utilities etc to use any name you specify. However, some people (like the Passport Authority) want formal proof and that is what you use a Change of Name Deed for. A solicitor can prepare this for you or there are firms on the Internet etc. that will also do it. In terms of whether this will stop your Dad finding you, I don't know. He may be tracing you the electoral register, in which case you can now just ask them not to publish your data when you submit your return, or it could just be by simple detective work, e.g. knocking on the doors of your former neighbours to see if any of them have a forwarding address etc. If your Dad is actually harassing or threatening you then you could get an injunction to stop him. Just ask a solicitor local to you or email me if you want any more help.

How do you legally change your name?

just b/c u marry u are not legally obligated to change ur name. If u change it back from a married name it becomes very hard as everything is based on ur SS#. Many women hyphen maiden -married name w SS and then hav it taken off in event of divorce. If u r married and did not have original maiden name on SS card, this is where u start. Once SS is on record u can use ss card & sometimes birth certificate to change ur driver license. If u are married it is ok to sign tax forms as mrs"smith" even if ur ss card reads "jones" your marrige certif is a legal form permission to be mrs smith. Basically the IRS does not care if or how many times u change ur name they want to be sure u are not intending to de fraud the gov! As for minors u need both parents on birth certificate at an administrative hearing to change a name. i m frmr gov wkr.

Yes you can. But whats the use? Name doesn't matter as far as I can see. My name is Sudhendu (half of people I meet cant even pronounce it. I was initially upset as you are, but now, I feel that name doesn't matters.) You get the best and the worst human being, and you wont find any correlation between their name!Convince your mother why do you like it to be changed, and after a thoughtful thought, go ahead and do what you decide.

Should I legally change my first name?

My first name is Jac'Kelda (pronounced Ja-kel-da) and my middle name is Nikol; I usually go by Niki or Nik. My first name is often mispronounced and it is very frustrating when I am meeting someone for the first time. I feel like often times people do not bother to remember my name when they meet me because it is so odd, unless I introduce myself as my middle name. Although I try to go by my middle name, now that I have graduated and am looking for a job, I have to put my first name on my resume, applications, etc. I want to make my middle name my first name. I think it would be a good move professionally and personally, but I am worried about my parents' reaction. Help?!

My personal opinion on the matter is that changing your name is the wrong way to go about it.Just a bit of background me and my father don't get on to the point where we haven't spoken in years, the last time i saw him he assaulted my partner (literally hit a woman his son is in a long term relationship with) and that wasn't even a surprise or a change in behaviour for him - the reason I bring this up is because there have been many many times since I left home where I have considered changing my surname because it is HIS name and I don't wish to be associated with it (especially if i come across someone I haven't met but who recognises my surname and makes the connection). But after a lot of thought on the matter I came to the conclusion that to anyone else who knows me my name isn't defined by the people that had it before because they don't know them, it's defined by me. It doesn't matter what collection of letters people know me by the important thing is the person behind them. Your name is your brand, if you really really want to change because it's the only thing that will make you comfortable then you should do it. But as with anything else in life we're dealt the hand we’re dealt and all we can do is own it and make it our own.Plus Marissa is a pretty unique name (at least I've never met anyone with it), all the better to make an impression.Hope this helps even a little bit.Sidenote: people judging you is never something you should consider when making life choices, what business is it of theirs?

I hate my name (Manahil), should i legally change it.......?

Legally changing your name means that all you have to do is to tell everybody and every organisation that you deal with that you wish to be known as XX YY after a specified date. Note that you must tell everybody you know who you want to keep in touch, and ALL organisations. This includes - the council (if you pay council tax); the registrar of your electoral roll; the Government organisations: Department of Work and Pensions (or you won't get a pension); Department of Health (or you won't get NHS services); your doctor; library; school & college (for certificate record changes); bank; phone company; employer; passport office; DVLA; etc etc. The list is actually quite large. If you miss one then it could cause very serious difficulties in years to come. You are NOT legally obliged to use a Deep Poll service. But if you do then it may simplify things for you. All Deed Poll services are run by private companies. It costs around £12-£20 but some are much cheaper. You MUST clarify exactly what you are getting for the fee. If you use a cheap company who do not fully inform you about what's involved then you'll be storing up trouble. Deed Poll services DO NOT automatically inform all the official bodies that you have changed your name - you still have to do this yourself. All they do is provide a form of words for you to sign and a list of the statutory bodies that you must notify. You must also find a trustworthy counter signatory who can verify that you are the person you claim to be.
