Animals don't recognize brothers, sister, mothers or fathers, grandfathers and other relatives the way we do. They breed from instinct. It is not disgusting, it is the way of nature. It is our responsibility to prevent unwanted breeding, and while I totally understand that due to your spiritual beliefs .. or whatever reasons you have for not neutering/spaying your pets, there is danger that breeding that closely can result in deformities and other physical and behavioral problems since the gene pool is being doubled up.. .so all the good qualities and all the bad qualities are doubled. http://cats.suite101.com/article.cfm/inb... Reputable breeders often line breed.. grandfather-granddaughter.. uncles and cousins, but intelligent and knowledgable breeders avoid brother sister breeding. It is far too dangerous. While you have never witnessed cats breeding, they are very "sexual" in nature, and will repeatedly breed, bringing more kittens into the world that may be genetically deformed. If you cannot bring yourself to neuter or spay your cats, you can have a vascectomy performed on your male cat, so he cannot impregnate your female, or you can ask your vet for birth control for your female. Understand that intact males will spray all over your house, with a really pungent, nasty odor. He will be more aggressive and harder to handle as he gets older. You are subjecting your female to a high risk of uterine infections and and ovarian/uterine cancer by not spaying her. Even if you get birth control for your female, she will go into heat repeatedly and will more than likely get sick. This is not considered incest. Incest is only related to humans... and the reason it is against the law, and highly despised as an action, is due to the fact that the children will be genetically damaged. It is to preserve the health of our children to ban it. Please do not punish your cats for their natural behavior. They will only become scared of you and they are not badly behaved. And again, please reconsider spay and neuter for the health of your cats and so that they are happy and content. I don't think you want to bring deformed kittens into the world. Temperament can be genetic - judging that your dog is a mutt that was passed of as a "new designer breed" it most likely has poor bloodlines and comes from an inbred overbred line of dogs. That sucks that your dog and you are the ones who suffer for the BYBs so they can stay home instead of getting a real job. Best I can suggest is to go to a trainer with your dog and maybe they can help.
