Should I Major In Chemistry Or Public Health

Why is organic chemistry required for a public health major?

Most of it is not made up junk; just no more than 40 percent of it is made up. you have to memorize useless information that doesn't mean anything or reinforce the principles of organic chemistry.

Should I pick up a minor as a public health major? I heard jobs want candidates with an interdisciplinary background, and I was thinking of international studies.

Yes, to a real ‘interdisciplinary studies’ minor, with management and some form of communication as areas of concentration. In the USA, international studies would be a unusual decision, unless you have specific work-related goals associated to it. You seem job-focused so as a retired senior corporate executive, this would be my advice. Note: If I were interviewing you for a position, I would toss you a couple softball questions then a hardball, “Name 3 specific goals that led to your decision to minor in ‘international studies.’See how that works. Good luck.

Biochem and chemistry major?

im not 100% sure but im very interested in majoring in either biochem or chemistry. what type of jobs and internships can you get from either of the two? is it hard, as in studies and competition?

What majors does not require organic chemistry?

Nursing probably doesn't. Psychology and cognitive science might or might not require o-chem. Check with an adviser at your college or look at your colleges web site to see the list of majors, then check the degree requirements for the ones of interest to you.

The problem is that modern biological science requires an understanding of the way biological molecules interact chemically. Biological molecules are carbon-based. Therefore you need to understand the chemistry of carbon compounds.

To do well in organic chemistry.: Memorize the reactions, etc. Do all the home work problems. Ask your instructor about anything you do not understand. If time permits, do ALL the problems at the end of the chapter, assigned or not.

If I major in Anthropology and minor in Public Health can I get in a public health grad school?

Sure.
"Coursework in biology and mathematics is highly recommended for students who plan to concentrate in epidemiology or biostatistics.
"For Behavioral Sciences, Health Education or Global Health, courses in sociology, psychology, education or anthropology are beneficial (I think this is for you). Health Services Administration students find that a business background is a plus. A biology or chemistry background is helpful for the study of Environmental Health. All schools of public health require competence in effective communication (both verbal and written); therefore, students should try to take advantage of undergraduate opportunities to hone these skills."

I'm thinking of majoring in health service administration. Is there a lot of chemistry, math and physics involved? Does the same apply to a global health major?

A 'global health major' (School of Public Health at UCB) has more 'Science' requirements I believe (Course Requirements) , and while this is a World renown training department for World Health, it only offers 'Administration' as a Masters, and it does so now on-line as a 2-year program:  On-Campus / Online Master in Public Health
