Should I Offer My Nephews The Book Of Which I Am The Author

Jehovah's Witnesses, do you remember the "Truth Book" (Little Blue Book"?

It got updated - for example the picture in the original that arched over to 1 9 7 5 as the end of 6,000 years was relabeled and several paragraphs were rewritten for the same purpose.

But the "Truth Book" became dated.

Ray Franz stated that he wanted to continue to be in the island paradise where he was a "special pioneer' rather than in NY. This was the beginning of his issues with 'Brooklyn'. A person may, if they look beyond the obscuring, think Ray Franz may have been a JW until his death if they had set him up instead of keeping him in NY.

Do you find self-help books/authors useful?

sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It all depends on how you take it. I read a lot, I love to read, and every book that I read not necessarily a self help book helps me to grow as a person, it teaches me something, something good, so in my opinion reading in general helps you a lot.now about self help; sometimes you get stuck and don't know what to do, and in those situations you turn to self help books or google, if you do the things right it's going to benefit you if you don’t it might not. Or you might not agree with everything that is written and it's okay because we all have a certain point of view. Most self help books teach us the art of letting go and how to be positive in life……I say why not? If they are trying to make our lives better then we should give it a shot right? And they are not even doing anything, we are! Afterall its a self help book, we are helping ourselves! And there is no greater help than helping yourself because if you become a good person you can tell people about how to be good right? And as Kevin smith says, ‘'every book is a self help guide, if you can take something from it’

What was your favorite book to read when you were a child that you give as a gift to children now?

I really liked the Chronicles of Narnia, especially the first book, The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. I found it to be really entertaining and couldn’t put it down but I was a child. I was at precocious reader, I see now, reading Dickens, Asimov, Heinlein, Tolkien, Twain, and lots of encyclopedias before age ten. I gave my nephew the Chronicles of Narnia and a few other books for Christmas one year. I remember b ring so darned happy that I got him those books. I was so excited for him to open them! I figured he would just love the gift! However, I think it was the worst gift he ever received. I’m fairly certain he never even opened them. Major, major fail.I couldn’t imagine why he wouldn’t like them, but he’s really not a reader. My own son is the same way. I wish he would enjoy the books that I did, but he doesn’t really like reading at all. I recall my sister, my nephews mom, saying to me a couple years later in one of her angry, spiteful rages, something to the effect of, “Why would you get him something like that? That was the dumbest gift ever. He hated it.” Lesson learned. It also taught me not to deal with my miserable sister, too, so that was a plus.

What kind of books should I give to my nephews (7 & 11 yrs old)?

Do Polly and Digory (from the Magician's Nephew, the first Narnia book) ever get married?

MY CAT IS CALLED DIGGORY!!!!!

Childrens books like George R R Martins the Ice Dragon?

I just read The Ice Dragon. I'm an adult, but I'm constantly reading kids books so I have something to recommend to my students. These are similar in some way to The Ice Dragon.

Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan (6th grade level, so just a little higher than Ice Dragon)
The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey (4th-5th grade level, so slightly lower than Ice Dragon)
Frostborn by Lou Anders (it's a new series so there's only the one title, about a 5th grade level)

Definitely offer him Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Both are similar in reading level to Ice Dragon, but LotR in particular can be a little daunting.

Which and what kind of books should I gift to my 9 yo niece?

I recently heard of a new YA author: Jennifer A. Nielsen. She writes fantasy. I’ve read one of her books, The False Prince, and I found it to be a pretty good read. I’m sure middle school age kids will like it too- it seems to be the sort of audience she writes for. She’s a fairly prolific author, and has a lot of books to choose from.If we’re going with more classic books, I would highly recommend The Outsiders. I read it in 7th Grade on my teacher’s recommendation, and I really liked it.The Narnia Series was another great one I loved as a child. I highly recommend those books too.
