Is vampire diaries (the book) is read like a diary?

Should I read the Vampire Diaries books?
I know i'm a bit late considering everybody fell in love with this series a while ago but I'm watching the tv show on Netflix now and it's making want to read the books. I'm on season 3: episode 16 so no spoilers please. I've haven't took a break since the first episode and i'm really loving it. I'm kind of set on my ways about the characters and I read somewhere that Elena is a popular blonde cheerleader or something. That really makes me not want to read the books but I have no clue if the story line is different from the show. So before I go and buy the box set could you enlighten me on the differences and whether I should read them or not?
Are the vampire diaries books good?
I like them, although a lot of people don't for many reasons. But I like some of the characters and storylines better in the books, and vice versa for the show. If I had to choose, I’d say the show was better than the books in the first 4 seasons, when the show was in its prime (And before Julie Plec took over from Kevin Williamson), but when the show started to decline I would pick the books. They're both good though. I have to warn you though, after the 4th book it gets a bit…. Weird. When I first read the 5th, 6th and 7th books I thought it was literally a joke and hated it. But it grew on me. It’s just something that has to be re-read and analyzed to be fully understood.
Should i read stefan's diaries. before the first book in the vampire diaries series?
No, because not only was it WRITTEN after but they hired a ghost writer to write almost every book after the original four (now two because they're in volumes) including the Stefan Diaries so they don't fit together as nicely as they should. In fact I'd suggest either stopping after the first two books or thinking of them as variations on the same story idea. Read the originals first, the others are terribly written. Have fun! Oh and they really are just like Twilight but a better written, so if you didn't like Twilight tell your friend no thanks.

Being a Vampire aficionado I recommend you following TV Series:The Originals (In Fact I like this much more than TVD, really fantastic) The Mikelsons are flawsome.Supernatural: They have included a hell lot of supernatural entities: Witches, Dark spirits,Vampires, Warlock, Half-Humans,Werewolf,Orbs,Doppelgangers blahh, blaah.Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Downloaded just half an hour before so no incites but plot looks appealing.True Blood: Never saw it, but it has secured good rankings at TRP. Did anyone read the Vampire Diaries books? Who did Elena end up with in the books?
Which version of the books? The one by L.J. Smith, the author who created the series and wrote the first seven novels thereof published by Alloy Entertainment, or the “official” version Alloy continued to publish after firing her? Smith did not realize she was selling her rights to a “book packager” and was technically writing the books as “work for hire.” She wanted to take the works down one path while Alloy wanted to go in a different direction. She was pretty bitter, not to say devastated, by what happened. When Kindle worked out a deal with some publishers to allow the creation and sale of fanfiction under licenses through Kindle Worlds, L.J. Smith was able to get her own vision out there. It looks like Stefan takes himself out of Elena’s life and erases everyone’s memories of him, but it seems like by the second book of the trilogy, Bonnie, at least, suspects there is someone else out there for Elena. I believe the third book was to end up with Damon/Bonnie, Stefan/Elena pairings but with Kindle Worlds closed as of this month, I honestly do not know if the third book was ever released. The official version ends with Elena reuniting with Damon.

Well Katherine and Elena are both descendants from an original Petrova, however, her name is currently unknown, that's just a named the writers used in an interview about the potential for a third character for Nina Dobrev to play. The original Petrova who was used in binding the curse. In the books, Katherine von Swartzchild is considered the first doppelgänger and Elena being the second so there is no mention of 'Charlotte' There are many theories whether Elijah and Klaus were in love with her, there are too many to mention, so I suppose we will just have to wait and see what series 3 will bring us, because I have heard that she maybe in the series?
